  1. Agreed. I think Bloom is alone among GMs in thinking JBJ is worth $11M
  2. Maybe the loss in revenue will be enough evidence to convince Sox management to offer Betts the best offer next winter. With a reset under our belt, half of Price's contract off the books and maybe another $20+ M coming off the books after 2020 (JBJ, Pillar, Workman and options for Perez & Moreland), we are much better positioned to make such an offer, if we are so inclined to do so, than had we not made this deal. The following winter sees us losing Pedey, Barnes and Hembree (hopefully not ERod). I'm all for making a play for Betts, but the fact is, we'll be able to spend on something very useful for years to come.
  3. Bllom could have just non tendered JBJ and saved $11M. I don't think he views JBJ as a salary dump. He won't be traded, unless Bloom thinks we get more back.
  4. If they are willing to pay $20-35M towards Myers's contract, taking JBJ and his $11M and then just giving $10-15M does the same for their budget. Taking Eovaldi would not, since he is owed $51M/3.
  5. Agreed, and with the "crap shoot" aspect to the playoffs, maybe some overkill is needed to ensure getting the ring.
  6. Everyone knows how I feel about Sale, but we very well may have won without him.
  7. That was for Betts. If it's about Chavis or Dalbec, then Quantrill, Myers and $40% of his contract might be enough.
  8. Unless they take some offsetting salary- like JBJ or Eovaldi.
  9. Yes, the deal would be more about Quantrill and adding a good pitcher.
  10. I remember that stretch very well. He looked awesome. He looked maybe a little better in the playoffs, but it might have been because it mattered more. I'm glad he regained his stuff. There was a big debate about him not even making the playoff roster based on how crappy he did after May 29th. 54 IP 51 H 28 BB 57 K
  11. He had one great stretch early in 2018: From game 2 to his 25th game (Apr 1 to May 29): 0.35 ERA .327 OPS against 25.2 IP 10 H 27 K 6 BB (1 out of 6 IR scored)
  12. In theory, JBJ might lessen the amount of cash SD has to pay and would give them a good OF'er. Chavis and JBJ for Myers, Naylor and Quantrill plus $15M or Chavis for Myers, Quantril and $30M. The first choice saves them more money, but loses a nice young player in Naylor. They might insist on no money or less than $10M going to BOS.
  13. I'd still want 50% of Myers's contract paid.
  14. I guess that makes sense.
  15. We lost about 1/6th of our PAs from 2018, even though many were not all that great in 2018, it's enough to say 2019 was not the same team. We lost about a tenth of our IP from 2018, but a much higher percent of high leverage/ late and close IP'd. That's enough to say it wasn't the same team in 2019.
  16. He was great and bad for stretches all 2018 and even other years. Kimbrel helped get us to the playoffs. Nunez, Kinsler and others helped, too.
  17. I'm thinking maybe we trade Chavis or Dalbec for Myers and Quantril plus cash. The trade simulator says theyd have to give about $44M to make it even. I doubt they do that, but I'd take less. Maybe add JBJ for Naylor and that lessens the money bigtime.
  18. Myers is owed $68.5M/3 and his luxury tax number is $41.4M/3. If SD pays the difference ($27.5M) Myers will cost us zero on the lux tax line. If they pay more, we get a net gain on the tax line.
  19. Yes, and Chavis & Dalbec are RH'd.
  20. Here are the values set by the Trade Values site of some SD players of possible interest: -47.4 Myers -owed $68.5M/3 but Lux is $13.8M x 3 +8.0 Baez (RHP)- pre arb +8.6 Quantrill (SP)- pre arb +12.8 Naylor (OF/1B)- pre arb +13.7 Morejon (LHP prospect) +16.0 Yates (Closer)- $7.1M x 1 year, then FA +32.1 Campusano (C prospect)
  21. If we get Myers, I wonder why we signed Moreland. We have Chavis and Dalbec to help at 1B, too. Getting Quantrill would be nice, but even half of Myer's deal is a burden beyond 2020. I'll wait to see the full deal before giving my opinion. I wonder if Bloom sees something in Myers he thinks he can correct and see improvement.
  22. Funny how you downplayed Kimbrel's role in the 2018 ring season due to his playoff woes, yet Kelly did great in the playoffs, and he's AAAA replaceable. Can you stick to one criteria?
  23. I seriously doubt anything said by Henry meant we got less in trade. Everyone knew we were not going for a 2020 ring, when we didn't bid on anyone special and replaced Porcello with Perez.
  24. Yes, it's been near total gloom and doom from you and others. Total. Bloom has yet to produce- NO s***! He should be fired for not winning us ring by now.
