  1. And 3 years is not really all that long.
  2. 3 duds: HRam, Pablito & Rusney
  3. Wasn't even thinking about the draft pick loss. No brainer: pass on DJ.
  4. I'm not so sure DJ will be all that "great" going forward. We shouldn't spend large and long just because we can or because we need to improve, badly. This year's best FAs just don't seem like the types of players worthy of large and long deals. Also, there are other ways to spend. We can probably get some very good players or prospects by taking on someone's bad contract player. That might be better than spending big on free agents far from worth what they will be getting. Bauer does not have the pedigree Price had when we signed him, and yet people want us to go large and long on him? Springer does not look as good as Carl Crawford did, either. DJ? I think not. We can get good quality free agents without going top tier. Trade for some top quality (and some salary to minimize the return) and grow the team in a steady manner. We are not a Chris Sale away from a ring. Let's not act like we are and be foolish by going all in for 2021.
  5. I kinda thought the $30M/3 was low for a top closer, but yes, it looks like the best FAs are not signing at discount rates. Even the tier 2 FAs seem to be doing well, so far. What might happen when all the "spenders" have signed all they are going to sign? Will we see a big drop off in AVV and years?
  6. Even worse, the contract comp: Per year... Scherzer ($30M)+ Cruz ($14.5M)= $44.5M HRam ($22M) + Pablo ($19M)= $41MM Only $3.5M per year more! Now, the total contracts: Scherzer (7 yrs) + Cruz (4 yrs)= $268M Pablo (5 yrs) + HRam (4 yrs)= $183M Okay, there's a big difference, here, but Scherzer has stayed strong through the first 6 yrs. Pablo & HRam gave us 1.5 years of decent play, combined.
  7. Would you call him the "franchise player?"
  8. It seems like none of the higher level players saw their values adjusted.
  9. Jon Gray is a huge question mark, too. I'd rather trade for Kiermaier and Fairbanks, and my Chavis-Chatham offer, although counted as a massive overpay, was tongue and cheek. I'd give Duran or Beni & Groome.
  10. I hope they set a minimum bar and penalize or withhold money from teams that fail to spend a certain amount. I'm fine with the Lux Tax at about where it is, now.
  11. And, after the Betts trade...
  12. Good point. There may not even be a Lux tax anymore.
  13. We really don't lose much after 2021: Pedey & Barnes. Rising Arb costs might eat all those savings up.
  14. I'm thinking going forward. By your criteria, Pedey is the man.
  15. If we don't go over, the clock does not start, again, and if no deal are longer than 3 years, it can't get too bad. (many are 1 to 2 years.)
  16. BTV has Kiermaier at -9.7 and Fairbanks at +9.4. I'd give Chavis (7.5) and Chatham (1.9) straight up for the both, but if we could get TB to pay a little cash, it would be nice. That's 9.4 for -0.3.
  17. To me, it's Devers & Sale, but Bogey is close.
  18. Well... Sale missed year 1 of his extension. Price gave us a lot of innings year 1, but he had his worst career ERA+ in 2016. Eovaldi sucked his first year after signing. Lackey sucked year 1 and then missed year 2. OK: Buchholz pitched more innings in 2012 than ever, but his 4.56 ERA was not all that great for year 1. His year 2 was great (237 ERA+ is one of MLB's all time best, but it was only for 108 IP). Good: Porcello won the Cy Young, year one of his deal. Lester did well all 3 years of that deal. Beckett, too. It was the next deal that... Clement retired before his deal ended- sad case. Foulke fell off a cliff.
  19. The BTV site updated some Sox players' values: The prior values are what I recall: Duran 12.0>14.0 Jimenez 8.5>10.8 Houck 5.0>6.0 Ward 4.5>5.3 Groome 3.7>4.5 Arroyo 2.0>3.6 Pivetta 3.0>3.3 Bello 1.0>1.6 Barnes 0.0> 1.2 Wong 4.0> 3.1 Brasier 4.7> 2.9 Chatham 4.7> 1.9 Taylor 1.6>1.3
  20. I meant about the injury to HRam- not that he might have gotten hurt at 3B, too.
  21. With the economy as such, maybe Bogey might bite.
  22. Good question, especially 2 years early.
  23. right out of the gate! HRam was decent year 2. We should have traded him after that season.
