I doubt the 3 you listed at the top, and the 3 I like most, will be gone at pick 4. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. -
The real test is the first 18 games after the all star break. They bring us up to the trade deadline.

So true, and that is one major flaw with the BTV site. One never knows how another GM values our marginal prospects. Sometimes you see trades like this that are head scratchers.

He won’t be up in August. I loved the Devers call up and timing of the call up, so I’m not sure where you are going with this. If Casals does get called up before I expect, I’ll be thrilled, and I’ll trust he’s ready and will do well. Better than Dalbec? Questionable but certainly possible, especially if Dalbec is slumping again, which he’d have to be for Casals to get a chance to play everyday with Boston.

Exactly, that’s why I said “wish.” It would never be accepted, unless the BAL GM liked these guys more than we do.

Dalbec has better minor league numbers than Chavis and has been hot for 23 weeks. His “rope” has been lengthened. I also think Cordero is close to deserving a second long look-see.

The biggest stumbling block to making Whitlock a starter is Sale. IMO, we will need at least one starter by August 1st. Needing two is not such a sure bet, but “I figure the odds be 50-50.” If it turns out we don’t need him to start, it can’t hurt having a RPer that goes 4-6 innings every 4-6 days.

My idea of stretching him out would be to continually increase his workload until he can go 5-6 innings by August first.

I actually like Bello more than Downs. I wish they’d take Chavis, Groome, Ward and RHernandez.

I don’t think it’s hard to stretch out a pitcher during a season, but the tricky part is to not max out his innings limit by August.

Bloom may like some, many or all of the pitching prospects he inherited, but chances are he like some much more than others.

I doubt that. Maybe it was a way to test how he handles pressure. I doubt anyone really knows for sure how to project how a player reacts to high pressure situations.

The Cordero-Dalbec comp is an interesting one. I think we'll see Cordero again, maybe very soon (DFA Santana?). Dalbec has been hot for 2+ weeks, and is our hottest hitter, right now.

I'm pretty sure Bloom & Co. rate Duran as pretty close to being "ML ready." There is a slim chance they don't. It's not just about age. Had Duran always played CF, and had the same batting approach for years, he might already have been called up. We don't know all the reasons. Maybe, it's his mental make-up, and they think he's too "fragile" to risk the pressure of failing at the ML level out of the gate. Maybe they see something good about Santana and think he deserves a little more time. I'm sure glad they did not give up on Renfroe after April and Dalbec after April & May.

The one thing to think about is that some of our pitching prospects are not "Bloom guys," and maybe he does not think some of them will ever amount to much. He may "value" them less than other GMs, which is often the basis of a trade- next to filling needs.

I'm fine with anyone wanting Duran called up. I want him called up, too! AS SOON AS HE'S READY! Whenever you make your opinion known on Duran, you seem to imply Bloom is making a big mistake. Like you know better. I know you trust and like Bloom, and maybe it's just the way you word your opinions that seem to get under my skin, sometimes. I'm dying to see Duran get a shot, but maybe- just maybe, he's not not quite ML ready, and maybe, they think blasting him into a big pressure situation is not good for him. Who knows all the reasons, they are holding off. We have mentioned several possible reasons that all have merit, but for all we know, the reasons Bloom & Co. have may be different from what we have been posting.
