Agreed, and the input they get from their young starters is also an X factor. Tanaka, Paxton & Happ were more know commodities and gave the Yanks over 600 IP from 2019-2020.

I've always felt North Carolina could sustain a MLB team despite their population being rather spread out. They have a ton of minor league teams that get great local support.

To me, the "improvement" made to the Yankee rotation will mostly come from within their system more than from Kluber and Taillon, despite my high regard for Taillon. They have a lot of young starters and only need 2 or 3 to do well.

I have high hopes for Seabold, Potts & Rosario, but my breakout candidate is Brayan Bello.

They could shorten the season, again. No, I'm not talking lock out, but I suppose that could happen. Did the players gain anything in 2020? Did they lose anything? Did they have much say in what was lost in 2020? Can they learn from 2020 and try to mitigate further losses? Maybe not. How can it hurt to try?

You are misunderstanding my point. The owners can decide to just shut down the season- like 2020. (I am not on the owners side, at all. Never have been.) The union should try to get whatever they can. Of course, I am not advocating they negotiate loses, but they are going to "lose" again in 2021, so why not try to get something good? If they can't, nothing is lost that they weren't going to lose anyway.

An MLB article today says NY improved their rotation, but all I see is a "favorite" who replaced their #s 2, 3 and 4 starters with injured guys and hopefuls. Nothing guaranteed, there, either. When looking at who were the Yank's innings eaters and best SP'er over the last 2 seasons, Tanaka, Paxton and Happ are easily in the top 4 in both areas. IP 2019-2020 230 Tanaka 211 Happ 171 Paxton 143 German 107 CC Sabathia 103 Cessa fWAR 4.1 Tanaka 3.8 Paxton 2.0 German 1.9 Happ 1.5 Cole 0.4 CC You are right, nothing is guaranteed. Their rotation could get worse, especially if Sevvy does not return to form after returning mid season.

They did seem to signal the specific things they did not like about the owner's proposal. To me, that shows they may be okay with some of what was put on the table. I'm not saying they will open it all up, but if indeed there were only a couple things they did not like- maybe it was more- then maybe some changes could be made that are needed to address this unique situation we are all in. I would not bet on it happening, but the players will end up losing again, this season- not that the wonder made out last year.

Agreeing to negotiate some new terms does not mean the current deal is null and void. If no agreement is reached, things remain status quo. The problem is, status quo in a pandemic is nearly impossible. Some changes are real- like 2020. Do the players want management to decide everything on their own and then try to litigate it after the fact? I'm just saying the union should be proactive and not just let the owners decide on a lot of issues. If they see they are getting nowhere, then stop "negotiating" until next year. There are clearly some things the owners cannot do unilaterally, but some things could be traded off that help both sides and the game of baseball in trying times.

I have to think there will be a few "bargain deals" out there in the next 2 weeks. Bloom is known for finding these types of players and deals. I agree, Bell, we are not done. We may not do anything major, but there is still room for that, but we could also do several modest moves that beef up our roster depth- both 26 and 40 man.

Where did I say make concessions? I said make a counter offer. If MLB says no, then wait to the next negotiations. The world has changed, bigly. They better be ready for some big whining shows put on by the owners.

I wonder how many meaningful FAs might end up having to sign for $1-2M for a 1 year deal at the last minute. We might possibly get someone like Moreland or Marisnick that way. It's hard to guess who gets left behind as table scraps, and if any gems will be hidden there.

Agreed. I think Rosario is pretty safe for another year, at least. I think Whitlock is someone to hold onto- big upside. That still leaves 8-12 players that could easily be replaced by an inexpensive last minute FA signing.

Potts is not high on my list of replaceable players, but I could see there being 4-6 players available near the end that are all better than these 6-8 Sox players: Brice (out of options) Springs Payamps Wilson Walden Brewer Valdez Mazza We could maybe even improve on these players at a low cost: Brasier Andriese Chavis Arauz Whitlock (rule 5) Potts Rosario
