  1. Yes, but my guess is they get paid more than most NL team's 26th men. Most will be established vets making more money. It will extend careers of several players, and most unions push to strengthen the position of their most senior members.
  2. The 3 year length is something that really lowers the risk factors.
  3. MLBTR Bauer and the Dodgers agreed to a three-year deal with opt-out provisions after year one and year two of the contract, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports. MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand adds that Bauer is guaranteed a total of $102MM on the deal, which includes a $40MM salary in 2021 and a $45MM salary in 2022. Both marks establish new records for the highest single-season salary, though the contract’s overall $34MM average annual value is still a bit shy of Gerrit Cole’s record $36MM.
  4. Now ERod, Richards, Eovaldi, Perez, Pivetta (Sale) Barnes, Ottavino, Brasier, DHern, Taylor, Brice, Andriese/Houck, Whitlock Vazquez, Plawecki Dalbec, Chavis Hernandez, Arroyo Devers Bogaerts Beni, Puello/Gettys/Duran Verdugo Renfroe Martinez Possible After Winter ERod, Richards, Eovadi, Perez, FA (Sale) FA, Barnes, Ottavino, Brasier, DHern, FA, Whitlock, Houck/Taylor/Andriese/Brice Vaz, Plawecki Dalbec FA, Arroyo Devers Bogaerts Beni, Renfroe EHern, FA Verdugo Martinez Possible Free Agents: SP: Oddorizi, Paxton, Walker, Porcello, Cahill RP: Rosenthal, Greene, Melancon, Giles, Petit, Clippard 2B: Schoop, B Miller, Villar, Strange-Gordon, Lowrie, Panik OF: Ozuna, JBJ, Pillar, Puig, Reddick, Goodwin, Markakis, J jay, Marisnick, Gardner, Dyson, Almora, Maybin, Hamilton 1B: Moreland, Cron, M Gonzalez
  5. Dodgers sign Bauer!
  6. I may end up being totally wrong, but I get the feeling Chavis is going to be given a somewhat long look, at some point, to prove he belongs or not. He may also start the season in AAA, and who we add or not will factor into this, but I think he gets a chance in 2021.
  7. Agreed, and since the players are getting paid for 162 while playing 154, what's the issue with a few teams playing an extra round or playoffs? Adding the DH should be something they want, too. It keeps older (higher paid) players in the league longer. Yes, it seems to me, they missed a chance to get somethings they want anyway.
  8. An insulting or shocking message.
  9. I get that. Maybe the Sox felt the $420 counter was an insult.
  10. Or both or a little bit enough of both to make this choice.
  11. Yes, I get that, but having games in front of 6,000 fans instead of 20,000 to 40,000 is a big difference. You have to see why the owners would rather play 25 of their games in October rather than April. I can also see why the players don't want to change anything.
  12. If it was $300/10 and $420/12, then maybe the Sox come back with or $350/12. Had we comeback with $330/10 or 365/12, it would have been more than he ended up getting.
  13. If we decided to go over and compete, it would, but it seems obvious that is not this winter's plan. Signing Odorizzi & Ozuna would be a whole new plan.
  14. Agreed, but the depth is still there. BTW, JD will play OF at NL parks, unless we get the universal DH.
  15. YES! Signing Odorrizi and a RP'er or two would do the same trick.
  16. Gotta like Ozuna's .886 OPS from 2019-2020, and his 47 HRs (85 XBH) in 816 PAs. His 2017 season of .924 and 69 XBHs was really good, too, but I'd take Odorizzi over Ozuna all day long. It would push someone like Houck, Pivetta or even Eovaldi to the pen and improve two slots with one signing. Ozuna basically forces a Beni Renfroe platoon in RF, with maybe Beni playing CF vs RHPs. Signing Ozuna helps the O, but messes up an already shaky OF defensive layout.
  17. Unless, the Mets sign Odorizzi at 4:01 pm, today.
  18. Actually 6 or 7, if you count Chavis Beni Verdugo Renfroe EHern JD Moreland Chavis
  19. Yes, we are basically punting the big decisions down the road- when the hand gets better. Also, the fact that Bauer, Springer and Realmutto did not really fit into the mold of the type of player you want to go all in with your chips, made this winter's choice not to go large & long pretty easy. IMO, we may have missed a couple chance to go somewhat large and not so long on a few players like Odorizzi. Those wouldn't be all-in moves and would be off the books in 3 years. We may still see an Odorizzi signing, but I doubt it.
  20. I could see us adding Moreland and Marisnick. That would likely mean EHern sees more time at 2B than CF, but not necessarily. A lot might depend on how Arroyo or Chavis look at 2B. We could add Pillar and Moreland- all but pushing EHern to FT 2B and 4th OF'er. My favorite plan would be to sign a 2Bman (Schoop) and Marisnick, but 2B and Moreland would be okay. Then, there are the pitchers...
  21. I get your point, and it does seem to take away from the game. Right now, Eovaldi is 11th on the list of Red Sox 40 man roster seniority. (When added to 40 man- not when joined the Sox system) Arauz is 18th. He was added in DEC 2019! Our rule 5 protected player added in NOV 2020 are ranked 28-34th.
  22. So, Wong gets $9M x 2, while EHern got $7M x 2. MLBTR did not see these two as that similar. Did you? (I have to think EHern's ability to play CF well must have been the main reason we went with EHern, right?)
  23. That's who I thought would get him all along.
  24. I guess the hope is COVID improves by fall and more fans can come to the games, more people are vaccinated, including players, umps and coaches. I get the reasoning, but they don't have to push back the start dates. I doubt the schedule is shortened, except by maybe in season issues arising.
  25. I see CF as a much bigger issue than 1B. Adding a 2Bman could help the CF position by sliding EHern to CF more foten than planned, and to me, that's a better add than Moreland. If we could trust Moreland in LF, maybe, but...
