  1. JD putting Chicago "on the rocks."
  2. Quick hook. Let's hope White Sox fans later question this choice.
  3. Yes, and the bats to come back to life (with men on base.)
  4. But, with "a strong and deep bench", you'd think someone could have taken up the slack, instead of relying on Bruce & Odor.
  5. Who knows, but I'll try one: maybe he felt the way the ump was calling balls and strikes, he'd call that one a ball.
  6. Wish we had that extra bench player, now- Chavis- to PH.
  7. In defense of first pitch swinging, the team had a .979 OPS swing at the first pitch before today.
  8. Devers may have been our best shot.
  9. Come on Bogey. Get on base for Devers.
  10. This may be our best chance- line-up wise. One more inning after this.
  11. With 9 RP'ers on the roster, why is Taylor even pitching in a close game?
  12. Running out of time in this 7 inning game.
  13. The argument was about having an extra pitcher or bench player. One major point for carrying a bench player was that if a pitcher was ever needed, you could have one there in 2 hours. That's not the case, if we were in Seattle, but I added that if we were on a long west coast stretch, which we were not, we could have brought along an extra pitcher (not on the 26 man roster) in case we needed to add one after having a 19 inning game the night before. Setting the opening day roster does not preclude additions and subtractions just a few days into the season, if needed. The other point was about us having to play 4 games in a 48 hour period, and that is precisely an example that adding a pitcher before that stretch would make sense and is entirely possible and easy to do. (BTW, I was not "griping." I was defending the position that we never needed that extra pitcher, and if we did, we'd know enough beforehand to add one- or two in the case of the doubleheader.) The fact that you can add a player to the 26 man roster for a double header also eases that strain on the pen during that 48 hour stretch- not to mention the fact that we had a day off to rest the entire pen before that 48 hour stretch.
  14. Now, that was a brutal attack! (Just kidding.)
  15. Not really. You get to add a player for a double header, and you can call up even one more pitcher when you this situation arising. (Plus, having several days off over the first 11 days of the season.) That was the point taken by those against starting the season with that "extra" pitcher.
  16. Less workout sessions but lasting longer. Longer relief stints.
  17. I can see, if we were on a west coast stretch and had a 19 inning game, or something, but even in that case, we could have had Houck travel with the big team. There is also the 27th man rule for doubleheaders, so that makes it easy.
  18. ...and that was known well ahead of time, and adding a pitcher was easy enough. Note, we also had a day off before that 2 day stretch, so it was also just 4 games in 72 hours.
  19. In all seriousness, what happens when the injuries start up, and you know they will? Your non pitching depth has already been grossly exposed. All your studs have played in 12-13 games (Frazier 10). No starter is hurt, except Voit, but Bruce and Odor have combined for 61 PAs, which is more than any one player on the team. Why don't Frazier and Tauchman, and even Higashioke and Wade have more than 61 PAs combined? Some of these guys were the players Yankee fans were bragging about all winter long- in terms of depth. Yes, Gardner has 31 PAs, too, but he's not the one killing you. His .687 OPS is actually among the team leaders. Players with 30+ PAs: .899 Judge .806 LeMahieu .777 Sanchez .687 Gardner .648 Urshela (all the rest are under .600)
  20. Exactly. "The everything going right" argument actually pertains to the Yanks! Wait until the injuries start- like they always do with these muscle bound behemoths. (Like Voit would have made a difference.)
