  1. ERA for RP'ers are skewed by coming into games with 1 or 2 outs and not needing to get 3 outs before their own runner scores. OPS against shows Ottavino is doing better than fine despite the high walk totals. .427 Barnes .513 Ottavino .571 Valdez .635 DHern .651 Whitlock .771 Taylor .775 Sawamura .912 Andriese
  2. It would be nice, but I'm not one of those people who say, "They need to tell him to get more walks." I'm hoping over time, he ets his OBP up to respectability. I doubt it ever gets to his .360 minor league number, but over .300 would be much better, and .330 makes him a clear keeper.
  3. Same with Richards, Pivetta & Perez. I'd have traded any 2 of those 3 for Kluber and Taillon in March.
  4. Our 2019 line-up looked good, too!
  5. I think you meant Duran and Casas. Chavis may be replacing Santana, soon.
  6. Anyone who K's 30% or more of the time must chase some bad pitches, but in the minors, Dalbec had a .360 OBP. He must have had a decent eye to do that. Maybe he can regain some of that skill, again. .195 to .220 won't cut it, even if you hit 30-35 dingers (Dalbec's career HR pace).
  7. Maybe as a finish out the season manager and then re-look.
  8. I think I had a 3 or 4 game win streak the other time I started the game threads. Max is king mojo, though. That thing with the wrong date was brilliant!
  9. 6 more years of Stanton will hurt, despite the $3M/yr Miami pays off the lux tax number. He may still have some big years left, but playing a full season is a pipe dream. LeMahieu may not be a big drag, but 5 more years is tough. We may see the Yanks spend more at the trade deadline, picking up short term fixes that don't drag down the finances long term, and shouldn't cost much, in terms of prospects given up, if the contract is huge. It's funny how this past winter, all we heard was how well the Yanks were set up for the short AND long term. Now, look!
  10. After those 3 losses in Houston, things looked bleak, then came the moon mojo.
  11. Nobody jumps out as a clear choice for leadoff without hurting another key batting order slot. I guess Santana's speed and the hope that he's played enough games, this year, that one might expect a groove-finding. Had anyone said the argument for Arroyo as our lead off man been stated back in March, the poster might have been banned or institutionalized. Marwin seems to be heating up, but I'd want a longer sample before giving the slot to him. Vaz/Plawecki might be my second choice behind Christian.
  12. We are 5.5 games up an the New York Jacko-ankees! 6 in the loss column.
  13. MLB.com headline: "X Marks the Sweep"
  14. How about Roger Moret going into a catatonic state in the locker room? Oil Can Boyd after the All Star snub. Carl Everett.
  15. Bill Lee was one of my all time favorite Sox players. He was a fun loving character but was very serious when on the mound. He won 17 games for 3 years in a row from 1973 to 1975. He got involved in a nasty fight with the Yanks where the intentionally destroyed his throwing shoulder. From 1971 to 1975, he had a 3,30 ERA (119 ERA+) despite a 1.32 WHIP. He pitched better with men on base. He had a decent season with the Expos after being traded after a decent last season with the Sox in 1978 (3.46 ERA/121 ERA+)
  16. Good call. Bill Lee was the master of the 11 hit shutout.
  17. I'm watching the games. I'm just keeping the no show game thread mojo working.
  18. That we may do. I could see us trading someone like Chavis for a salary dump player. I doubt we trade someone younger or more promising. Bloom may have a few prospects he doesn't like that other GMs view in a better light. Maybe pitchers from before his time, like Groome, Ward or even Mata, but I doubt for a 2 month rental.
  19. The make-up game takes away a scheduled rest day. 5:10 start time, so don't miss it. We can't look ahead to Astro payback. We need to beat the Marlins and keep the pressure on the Rays and Yanks and all the other contenders. I'm gonna stick to my call for Arroyo to lead off, but it seems like he's getting big hits no matter where he is in the line-up or coming off the bench. Pivetta is reaching the time where his sample size is getting too large to think this has all been some kind of fluke. A wing here would help prove it's no fluke. Keep it rolling, guys!
  20. Somebody had to apply pressure to the bleeding.
  21. Richards pitched poorly enough to let up 5-7 runs. The Yanks scored 3 off him. We bumbled in the field, again. We were saved by the DP- three times. We were saved by a timely hit by Bogey. We were saved by a horrific strike call. We could have lost this game countless ways. We didn't. Is this magical or is it something special about this team? I do know one thing: this is fun!
  22. These are the kind of wins that have lasting affects. For both teams.
  23. Are we really at a point where we want to trade some of our future for a win now addition?
  24. I keep waiting for their rotation to stumble, but their peskiness is ceaseless.
