  1. 5 total might be 1 or 2 too many. He can get a couple relief outing in the bigs before starting a game- in a sense getting 2 rehab outings in the bigs before starting. I can't imagine him being worse than 2-3 guys we have in the pen, right now.
  2. That's why I'd trade him over Groome, but I guess mvp thinks otherwise.
  3. Another 1.3 year guy, and he K's almost as much as Dalbec. He's had some great years, but is up and down, a lot. He's only had over 363 PAs twice in the bigs.
  4. I'm thinking we may lose Ward to Rule 5.
  5. It seems like many games where we have very low hopes going into a game, we win often enough.
  6. I was going to go, but I'm going to a ceremony for a great friend who died, last year.
  7. I get that, but almost $53M over is not something to emulate. To be highly competitive, next year, they will likely have to spend large, again.
  8. I'm just not on board with giving up top prospects like Downs. BTV approved this one. I could probably get onboard with something like this: Dalbec Ward Rosario Potts
  9. The 1.3 years of control matches up nicely with Casas.
  10. Framing is not a skill many young catchers have. They learn it over many years of development.
  11. It does make for easy choice replacement decisions.
  12. They did. They were about to score 30, but cut back.
  13. Agreed. The time to do either of those is just not July 2021.
  14. I'd rather go "bargain" or just focus on getting the best pitching we can afford without losing top prospects.
  15. I think we need 3 minimum. We may sign 4-6 with an eye on not squeezing the Rule 5 additions. I think we'll go over the tax line by $10 to $19.9M in 2022.
  16. Possible 1Bmen Available: Too costly? .893 Freeman .866 J Walsh .859 B Bradley .845 G Cooper .800 Goldschmidt .795 Hoskins .781 Rizzo Maybe? .817 J Aguilar .802 Schoop .791 Mancini .776 C Santana Bargain? .826 CJ Chron .773 Moustakas .759 J Bell .758 N Lowe
  17. I see something like Ward, Potts and Chavis for Jon Gray and CJ Chron. I'm not sure Danny Duffy has recovered from his injury after a great start. There are other low-return package SP'ers and RP'ers out there, mostly salary dump types that make just enough to keep us under the taxline. 1Bmen are very low cost. There may be 5-6 on Bloom's radar. We could also go for a pen arm, but I doubt we give up much or end up over the tax line.
  18. I can't bring myself to feel confident in any game Richards starts, but the bats seem to be alive, again, so maybe we win a slugfest. Maybe we are surprised by a Richards gem. Hatch is a righty, so Dalbec will likely be sitting, Santana at 1B and Kike at 2B for the injured Arroyo. Let's start a streak.
  19. Agreed, but it is one major factor.
  20. I thought you disliked big spending. They are $52M over the tax line. They do lose a lot of payroll over the next two winters, so let's see if they keep spending large or cut back some. After 2021 Kershaw Pujols Jansen Seager Taylor Tsutsugo Knebel Nelso After 2022 Price Pollock option Turner option Muncy option A Barnes
  21. Will this be the 26 man roster by the end of August? SP- Sale, Eovaldi, ERod, Pivetta, Richards RP- Barnes, Ottavino, Whitlock, Taylor, DHern, Perez, Sawamura, Brasier C- Vaz, Plawecki 1B- Dalbec-Arroyo 2B- Kike-Arroyo 3B- Devers SS- Bogey LF- Verdugo CF- Duran RF- Renfroe DH JD Utility- Marwin, Cordero or Santana
  22. Nothing new... https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2021/07/boston-red-sox-draft-pick-signings-how-much-will-marcelo-mayer-jud-fabian-get-paid-tracking-every-bonus-before-aug-1-deadline.html
  23. We don't have much budget space, so we may just get one decent player, which to me should be a SP'er, or two lower cost players (P + P or P + 1B).
  24. If we do extend Devers and or Bogey, this winter, depending on how the contract is set up, we may take a luxury tax hit in 2022, which would restrict FA spending. I think we can work things out. We may only need 3 FAs, this winter: 1 to replace ERod 1 to replace Ottavino 1 to replace Richards or Workman/Rios/Andriese or possibly a short term 1B-utility guy.
