  1. That was fun! Let’s hope we have a few more of these .real soon.
  2. check out our starter ERAs: 3.16 Pivetta 3.40 Perez 3.89 Richards 4.15 ERod 4.20 Eovaldi Looks just about upside down from spring training expectations.
  3. Franchy’s OPS went up 57 points, today. Dalbec & Bogey’s went up over 30. Dalbec passed Renfroe, today. Bogey passed JD.
  4. What a difference 2 days make.
  5. So, unless someone has done it before; it can’t be done? It’s not like Pivetta is 35. How about what Sale, ERod, Richards and Eovaldi have “done before? For them, you use a whole new set of measuring sticks. Look, I’m not projecting Pivetta to place 10th in Cy Young, this year, but you act like he,s doomed to repeat his career norm every season and nobody can ever improve greatly in a season.
  6. Pitchers who just pitch one inning can go again in 2 days not 3, and many can pitch one inning back-to-back several times in a season. With 9 RPers wel’ll never run out of fresh sucky arms.
  7. You keep acting like someone is defending Cordero being on the roster. We’ve already seen a plus from Chavis, and adding Santana makes sense. Defending Brice is not helping your position. Spreading his IP around to the other sucky 5 could do no harm.
  8. Lots of walks, but yes, he’s doing better than any other 5th starter in MLB.
  9. Bobby Dee for Governor.
  10. I think it’s time to move Renfroe to 6th and Vaz down somewhere.
  11. Now, I see why Renfroe is in RF.
  12. Whitlock is not on my s***** Sox RPer list, but if you went by some posters methodology of you,re only as good as your last 1-4 games, he,d be bashed, too. I trust Barnes- the guy nobody thought could ever be a closer. I trust Ottavino enough. I trust Whitlock enough, but his history is very short, and he’s being stretched out to be a starter or long man- not an 8th inning solid set up man. The fact is, anyone Cora brings in for the 6th or 7th inning will lead to someone saying, “Why did he bring in a guy who has sucked.” 6 of the 9 have all sucked, and even Whitlock’s numbers in May are not great. That’s my only point, besides not needing 6 s***** RPers on the 26 when 5 can give us the same.
  13. I’ve not given up on Cordero, but I have for now. I’m certain he will be demoted when Kike or Arroyo come off the IL, and if he does well at AAA, we may see him again.
  14. I felt the same way. Taylor had a good season a couple years back, and might have just needed time to regain his old form, but I still have my doubts about using him in high leverage situations going forward. We don’t have many in -system choices that jump out at us to be called up, so it looks like we may be stuck with what we have until Brasier, Houck, Seabold and Sale return or the deadline. I actually like the chances that 1 or 2 of the following pitchers will grow into a solid set up man: Sawamura Andriese Hernandez Valdez Bazardo Brasier Taylor I still have no faith in Brice.
  15. I’d have started Chavis at 2B and Marwin in LF. Cordero needs to benched until someone has enough play in AAA to be ready for a call up. Santana seems like the choice, but he may not be ready by the time kike and arroyo come off the IL. The Sox lose Santana, soon, if they don’t call him up.
  16. The issue is that many people think that what you have done in the last few short games is somehow predictive of what is to be expected. Some even look back to just your last one game sample size to determine that players next game usage.
  17. Blaming Cora for choosing a s***** RPer from a group of 7 of them is just plain wrong. Although I’d argue Blooms hands were tied it makes more sense blaming him than Cora for the choices. Yes, someone can argue this or that guy would have been a better choice, and that’s always easy to do in hindsight, but look at the choices Cora has with their recent samples of work: Andriese: has let up a run in 4 of his last 5 outings, including 3 runs twice. He had gone 6 of 7 giving good performances beforehand. Sawamura: run allowed in 3 of last 5, including 3 HRs. DHern: 3 hits and 3 BBS in his last 1.2 IP over 3 games. Valdez: apparently was hurt and not used much for a while. Scoured upon in 2 of his last 4 outings. 3 runs, 5 hits and 3 BBS in his last 4 innings. Brice: scored upon in 2 of his last 3 outings allowing 6 runs, 4 hits and 2 BBS in the last 3 IP. Taylor: has done okay, lately but was the poster boy for demotion not Long ago, and who is to say any of the people above might start doing well like Taylor is now? Taylor has gone 6 straight outings without allowing a run, but he has allowed inherited runners to score, often. He let up 2 hits in his last outing. Whitlock: I trust, but he has done poorly recently. Scored upon in 3 of his last 4 outings. 4 runs and 11 hits- 2 HRs in his last 7 IP. The other 2 trusted RPers are Barnes and Ottavino, and it wasn’t long ago Ottavino was being called a bum and a big Bloom mistake. A separate issue is the need to have 6 bad RPers to choose from instead of 5. It’s not like any of these 6 are even close to being overworked. To me, they are all pretty much interchangeable, so just cut Brice loose and give Cora 5 bad choices for the 6th and 7th innings instead of 6.
  18. I’m not sure we can call then “stars” just yet, and I for one, was almost always careful to say DD nearly stripped the farm not totally. Houck and Dalbec have shown signs of being very helpful and may become stars someday, but how many players on the Sox are DD era prospects and stars right now? He was GM long enough and the timing is right for there to be several. Duran and Casa may be years from stardom. I’m pretty sure a couple of DDs prospects or prospects in the system when DD arrived will end up real good- maybe more, but we are feeling the effects of having a bad farm for 3+ years as we speak. I’ve said this several times, I never expected Bloom to be able to rebuild our farm and 40 man roster so quickly, especially in an era when rich and winning teams have the cards stacked against them. Trading away stars and losing badly helped, some, of course, and not many saw all that coming.
  19. No, no, no! You have to use a different criteria for each and every Yankee starter.
  20. His H/9 rate is way down, and it’s not all about BAbip being low. Maybe he’s just a pitcher that gained a lot from the new ball era. Also, his BB/9 rate is dropping quickly. He had 17 in his first 27 innings and 5 in his last 17 Ip, which is back to his career norm- not great but not so bad you still can’t be a good pitcher. The HR/9 rate is something we’ll have to watch..
  21. It doesn’t help to have 7 well rested sucky pitchers to choose from vs 6 semi rested sucky pitchers to choose from in innings 6 and 7 and sometimes 8 when Ottavino or Barnes are not available. We are talking about keeping Brice well rested? We need Brasier and Houck back. If they are both healthy and doing well we may not notice how scary our pen is beyond the top 2..
  22. I’m a big Dallas Cowboy hater but won a fantasy league riding on Emmit Smith’s shoulders. That was weird!
  23. Has no recently turned 28 pitcher with excellent “stuff” ever busted out of mediocrity?
