  1. I think Perez deserves some slack. The guy had a 3.09 ERA through 11 starts- tops on the team. He has 2 very horrific starts (11 ER in 3.1 IP) Then, he went 5 IP allowing 1 ER. All this, with horrible defense behind him.
  2. Our left side defense will be the death of this team.
  3. Is it part of all of our game plans to immediately walk the first hitter after we put up a crooked number?
  4. He's actually not known as a singles hitter- maybe not as any sort of hitter. He averages this per 650 PAs: 23 HRs 36 2B+3B 59 XBHs 80 Singles WhileI would not label him a power hitter, either, I see him as more of a doubles/XBH'er with a decent SLG% more than a singles hitter who gets on base a lot. Career .239 BA .312 OBP .425 SLG
  5. While top closer money sky-rocketed after we acquired Kimbrel, it was not that high before and the season we traded for him. Top RP'er signings for 2016: Darren Day $7.75 x 4 Marco Estrada $13 x 2 Joakim Soria $7.3 x 3 2015: F Liriano $13M x 3 David Robertson $11.5M x 4 Andrew Miller $9M x 4 L Gregerson $6.2M x 3 Sure, Kimbrel was better than these guys, but he was making top or near top closer pay at the time. It was the next season Chapman made $17.2M x 5, and Jansen made $16M x 5.
  6. We should score 8 this inning; our lead off hitter JUST GOT ON BASE!
  7. He's had way more than his fair share of huge hits, so I'm giving him a pass.
  8. Did you see the "if" in front of the sentence? It's not nonsense to think we could be 6-8 GB by the end of July. I seriously doubt it happens, but not nonsensical.
  9. Yes, players move from CF to LF all the time, but Duran is just learning the OF, and if he is to be called up very soon, they'd be playing him where they expect him to play already. Why LF? He'll be replacing Kike not Verdugo. If we dump Santana to call him up, Kike would play 1B orplatoon with Dalbec there and Marwin at 2B, until Arroyo returns. Of, we just platoon Marwin with Dalbec and play Kike at 2B. (I don't see Marwin as a better hitter than Dalbec, even vs RHPs.)
  10. No, it wasn't a big deal, but just the thought of it was too much for some.
  11. So, 6 games back is out of it? Had we traded for players instead of trading players away, in theory, we could have been "in it." I do remember people saying, the Sox are not the type of team to do that. Look, I'm not sure what to do. I'm just throwing things out there. At this point, my feelings are mixed.
  12. The big deadline foundational questions are: What is the meaning of "still in it?" (Contender or not) For a ring or a play-in WC shot? Is 4, 6 or 8 games behind the last WC slot "out of it?" Does how we are playing the 7-14 days before the deadline play a major role? One has to think with the "magic" this team has shown and their ability to fight back, come back and streak, at times, maybe the "crap shoot" nature of the playoffs is just what this team would be good at. If we are tied for first place, I can't see us trading Barnes & Ottavino. Maybe, if Sale looks good, we trade ERod, but for what? Maybe we'll be buyers and sellers.
  13. They really aren't known for great drafting. It is more about development, so your point is spot on.
  14. That was the only one we thought of. I also remembered the Sox trading David Wells, when many felt we still had a shot.
  15. I'm not sure how many teams want ERod, as of now. Trading Barnes is certainly something they must be thinking about. Ottavino, too. This isn't Tampa, anymore, but I'm sure Bloom still sees the value of such moves. I'm not sure the fans would.
  16. True, especially if we never spend the buffer between us and the tax line. One could alsoview the "savings" as allowing us to sign Marwin or Andriese, which doesn't seem all that great.
  17. Why does KC want high priced rentals? Downs, yes. Maybe a three-way trade.
  18. If we add a 1Bman, it will e a cheap 2 month rental. (Moreland type)
  19. A position he's never played? I think he plays CF and Kike platoons with Dalbec at 1B and plays some 2B until Arroyo returns.
  20. Marwin sucks at hitting. If we call Duran up, Kike can play 1B
  21. It’s not “definite” we’d be better. The money saved afforded us Renfroe or Sawamura.
  22. I've been wrong on a few roster move ideas, like... Sending Dalbec down right before he got hot. Sending Taylor down. Calling up Santana. So, here I go... (moves to be made, soon, or when players are healthy) DFA Santana Add Duran 40 and promote him to CF/leadoff DFA Andriese Add Kaleb Ort and promote him to Boston Put Richards on the IL (phantom or otherwise) Call up who ever is healthy and ready from this list (in order) 1. Houck 2. Valdez 3. Bazardo 4. Gonsalves When Arroyo is ready, demote Chavis When Plawecki is ready, demote Wong When Brasier is ready, DFA Workman or demote Rios (see below) When Sale is ready, demote Rios or DFA Workman
  23. Some have been "ready" since opening day. Why one week and not tomorrow?
  24. We should do better than T Ball. We may get Davis. I like our chances at getting Jobe, Leiter or Rocker, if we don't get the catcher, Davis
  25. Because I saw what the Rays did for over a decade under his control and influence. There have been many changes in the scouting and development areas in the Sox systam.
