    Many of the average to better players have one great year. If you take theirs away, too, now a 2.0 is good, not ok.

    Yes, of course. I do think much more time is needed with Duran, and Dalbec needs a longer look he may not get with the Sox. Cordero and Chavis could benefit by playing everyday, but that ain't happening.

    Marwin's flexibility allows Cora to PH and use all the other bench players where he pleases without worrying about someone getting hurt, later in the game. Since he can play almost every position but catcher, being on the back of the bench is best.

    Great news! I had expectation of him starting in the bigs, this year before he got hurt.

    He started in the bigs at a very young age and went straight to 200 IP/yr and never stopped.

    FIP really penalizes pitch to contact pitchers with low K rates. I like fWAR more than bWAR, but they both have flaws. Probably an average of the two is closer to reality.

    He's better than many teams' 2 or 3 starters and most teams' #4. IMO, he's a bargain at $6M/1. Still more of the season to go, and if he keep pitching like his last 8 starts, maybe my mind will change.

    8 days is not enough time to finish any evaluation, but we may know more.

    I totally agree, but at one point he was 5th or 6th in team PAs. That's not right. His real value is probably not even playing, but allowing Cora to use others knowing he has Marwin to cover any emergency situation that arises.

    I think fWAR values IP way more than bWAR, even if those IP'd are not all that good.

    He's one of the best #5 starters in MLB.

    I just went by the metrics and the very few games I saw him play- mostly in the playoffs.

    3.2 IP with 0 ERs might not be good, but to me, it's not "bad."

    I was certainly impressed with his 3 starts in 2020 (23 IP), but his history before than made me think he was probably more like Beeks than anything better. He could be a huge boost, if he keeps it up. Then, the Sale boost might be just enough to get us to the WS. Once there, I like our chances, even though we will probably be the dogs.

    If Houck has a big game, it will certainly improve our confidence in this team as a whole. I'm not one to move one way or the other over one game, but for some reason, this game means more than just putting the Yanks out of their misery.

    Seems like the more confident you get, the team loses more often, and vice versa.

    Admitting mistakes actually shows courage and integrity. I never understood why so many feel like doing so shows weakness.

    He was a decent defensive 3Bman, so I expected and still expect him to be better at 1B. The biggest surprise is his lack of walks. He has lacked in production and has not met expectations, but the weird thing is, he is 5th on the team in RBIs despite batting 9th and behind some of the most putrid OBP batters in recent Red Sox history. 5th in RBI 8th in PAs He's also 5th in XBHs (24). As for the horrific OBP (.259). His replacements: .231 Duran (move Kike to 1B) .230 Santana .228 Cordero .221 Chavis

    Perez has had 4 bad starts out of 19.

    That's why I think we will sign an older pitcher to big money but just 1-3 years.
