  1. I’m not sure where you get your numbers from, but watching both games he’s pitched, I saw 93-94 often enough, and fangraphs sows he hit 96 in both starts. You did the same with his return velocity numbers the last time he came back and continued repeating lower velocity numbers even after I provided the fan graph link to you 2-3 times. Seriously, where do get these lower than everyone else velo numbers from? Plus, for his first two starts back one can expect lower numbers followed by some amount of uptick. Many returning pitchers take time to get their control, so maybe Sale is not your average TJS returnee.
  2. I’m not sure why so much hope is being placed on a 2022 Casas. It seems he has quite a bit to work on. His number aren’t close to Dalbec & Durans minor numbers. I’m not saying he can’t or won’t help, but how is wishing he helps any different than wishing just on of these 4 guys came through, this year: Dalbec Marwin Santana Cordero Between the four combined, the odds looked pretty good, and we had Duran, too.
  3. It’s hard to know how many days the new groin injury delayed his first start with the Sox, but I do think it seriously delayed his use at 1B to the point he may not p,ay there at all, this year, even though that was the stated plan. Had we been able to play Kyle at 1B v RHPs and DH or corner OF v LHPs, the plan looks a lot better, even if his 1B D was worse than the already poor 1B D we’ve had all season.
  4. There is a much better chance he can learn and play 1B by 2022. Fearing someone coming off a groin injury and learning to play 1B in about a week is a bit different. I do think they’d want him to DH, but not if JD is here. If they sign Kyle to 3+ years it might be a down the road thought, or we roll the dice and play JD or Schwarber in a short corner OF position while the other DHs, but I’ve seen enough of JD in the field. Could we play JD at 1B not OF? There were board suggestions of that, last winter. I, for one, really want Schwarber back and was thrilled we traded for one of the best bats on the market.
  5. Dude. He has never lacked durability as a DH. This is the first time he’s played for an AL team. Plus, he’s had 1830 PAs since 2017. One might expect 600, 600, 600 and 250, so he’s about 250 short over 4.4 seasons. Not all that bad.
  6. Honest to God, I almost posted this: Does the whole state of Minnesota run and hide their first borns when the Twins play the Yanks?
  7. Just wait for the next downturn.
  8. Is loyalty unsustainable?
  9. To all who jumped ship, the gangplank is still here.
  10. The Rays lost. Yanks won. A’s playing SFG late.
  11. 1972 was my first year as a Sox fan and what a doozie! My family had moved to Portland from Milwaukee shortly before the Tommy Harper trade that brought my favourite Sox player to the Sox. As a teenager I suffered through all that heartache, but I think it gives us perspective.
  12. Although the 1972 team was not really linked too much to 1975-1978 teams, missing the playoffs by a half game was a real ball-buster and I believe an only one time event in the history of MLB.
  13. The guy can flat out hit! Not only has he averaged 38 HRs every 620 PAs over his career, he has a decent .337 career OBP. He had one of baseball’s most incredible HR rampages ever, and it was this year! He hit 12 HRs in a 10 game stretch and 16 in 18 games!!! Can people stop saying Bloom did nothing at the deadline and realise this guy pulled a groin muscle that delayed his start with the team?
  14. Plus it wasn’t that much after that tough game 7 loss on ‘75.
  15. Solo homers. Giving false hopes by loading bases. A total mess!
  16. Despite him getting on base 3 of 6 times.
  17. Depends who pitched the few days before the play-in to the play-in. What about a 3-way tie?
  18. God, remember when we put Adrian Gonzalez in RF?
  19. They must be more worried about Schwarber hurting himself than Arroyo at 1B. I still like Kike in CF and Arroyo at 1B, but moving Arroyo to 1B, Kike to 2B and Renfroe or Verdugo to CF, so Schwarber plays the shorter corner OF is really causing some defensive headaches.
  20. No doubt. No Manny- No Rings. (Also among others, Damon & Foulke in '04 and Drew & Dice-K in '07) No Lackey, Vic & others no 2013 ring. No JD, Price & others in 2018- no ring.
  21. Big market. Winning team. Low draw. Move the team. (I always felt like maybe Florida should have one team that plays 41 games in MIA and 41 in Tampa Bay or Orlando. The other should move to NC or CA.)
  22. Sounds like you think we needed 3-4+ moves at the deadline. Maybe trading for Schwarber was a mistake and we should have done less or been sellers.
  23. I don't blame them, and I had those thoughts, too. I don't expect fans to think, "but what did the Cubs want from the Sox and was it too much?" after that play, but I think that. I don't want us trading too much for anyone, especially not in a year where I think we are just a player or two away from being a top 2-3 favorite. I never felt that was about this team, this year, even when we had the best record or top 3 record. I don't expect casual or even non casual fans to think like that.
  24. I'm not doubting what you are saying, but maybe (hopefully) this is just a phase or slump he's going through. Sometimes players get away from what has made them successful, and they figure it out and get back to doing well. I think "sold out" may be harsh, but it could be true, too.
