  1. Too much talk of 2022 in the 2021 thread. It's not like we started losing after the thread was created. That began beforehand.
  2. Rizzo would not have been there to hit the ball to Rizzo. No doubt, we'd have been better with Rizzo than without, but the Yanks gave up more than we should have to get him. IMO.
  3. Plus, by playing JD in the OF, they opened up the perfect fit for Schwarber- DH! But, they put Plawecki there, instead, then refused to PH SChwarber with the game on the line. I'm the last guy to make game choice criticisms of our managers, but I'm in disbelief on this one.
  4. The groin injury set him back and limited his ability to practice more at 1B, but why are we DH'ing Plawecki with Schawrber on the bench? We had 2 days off around these 3 Yankee games plus this Monday off.
  5. Okay, we have a day off, and need a serious re-grouping or smacks up aside some heads. As bad as things have looked, we are still tied for the last WC slot, with the A's having one of the toughest remaining schedules in the league. I'm not a big believer in the playoffs are a crap shoot theory, but some of you are, so at least you guys should not count the Sox out. A crap shoot is a crapshoot, so anyone in has a shot, right? We have the next 9 games, including another day off on Monday, to make a statement. Home for 3 vs TEX and 3 vs MIN before going to CLE for 3. That will be followed by 9 games that may make or break us: 3 vs TBR at home 3 @CWS 3 @ SEA If we are still in it, even if a game or 2 behind on Sept 15th, we have a shot. We finish the season with... 8 at home: 3 v BAL 2 v NYM (still in it) 3 v NYY then 6 on the road: 3 @ BAL 3 @ WSH Here's how the next 9 games shape up: TEX Sale (+1 day rest) TEX ERod (+1) TEX Eovaldi off MIN Houck (+2) MIN Pivetta (+1) MIN Sale (+1) @CLE ERod (+1) @CLE Eovaldi (+1) @CLE Houck The series in TB might line up with Pivetta, Sale & ERod. There is still hope, but we need our offense to pick it up, especially by hitting our HRs with men on base, which of course, implies we need to get on base more often. We need our defense to make plays, when we need them most. I can't expect them to learn how to play good D overnight, so we will just need to get lucky by having our mistakes made when they count least. Our pen needs to rebound, and maybe Richards and Perez can provide the boost they need. We need our starters to come through. That's a lot of ifs, and maybe we don't need all at once to pull out enough games to, but we have to do better on a number of fronts to right the ship.
  6. Can we celebrate Bobby Dee hitting into 3 hard outs? Man o man, this sucks!
  7. I'd have also DH'd Schwarber over Plawecki or at least PH for him in the 9th.
  8. There is no sugar coating what is going on, but am very very far from giving up on this team.
  9. Theo would keep Bloom as his GM, and there were no “failures at the deadline.”
  10. Another play tonight that should have been made but wasn’t. It opened the flood gates, but all runs were earned. Our D sucks. Munoz is not an improvement on D. Arroyo at 2B and Kike in CF helps some.
  11. Why avoid every question.
  12. If everyone ever gets healthy, here is my prediction for the 28 man September roster: SP: Sale, Eovaldi, ERod, Pivetta, Houck RP: Barnes, Ottavino, Whitlock, Taylor, Richards, Perez, DHern, Sawamura, Brasier C: Vazquez, Plawecki 1B: Schwarber, Dalbec, Shaw 2B: Arroyo, Munoz 3B: Devers SS: Bogaerts LF: Verdugo CF: Hernandez, Duran RF: Renfroe DH: Martinez maybe Arauz or Wong over Munoz.
  13. It’s speculation as to why the numbers are worse not about them being worse. We all know they are worse, but you never address any points made. To you the fact that he was worse prove the reason he was worse. That’s not how logic works.
  14. I loved Manny’s nonchalance approach at the plate, although he really worked super hard on hitting behind the scenes. The nonchalance on defense never endeared me.
  15. Manny was the best RH’d hitter I have ever seen. Rice was awesome, too.
  16. Agreed. I’m not sure the options thing matters more than who is better. They both might be gone if DHern returns.
  17. We are running low on players to activate. There goes some of the best discussion posts. We have Brasier in rehab. We have Arroyo on the IL with no clear timetable for his return. We have DHern still on the IL with a return estimate listed as September. We have Santana on the IL, but who the F cares? ________________________ So, here's my 2 cents: Brasier activated from 60 day IL, Santana DFA'd and Davis demoted to AAA (Robles has no options remaining.) Arroyo promoted: Arauz demoted D Hern promoted: Robles DFA'd or kept on the Sept expanded roster. (Or, add Munoz to 40 and call him up for Sept.)
  18. Papi never bugged me, even when he smashed the phone off the wall. I guess it does all just come down to whether I like the guy or not. You caught me.
  19. First of all, the "end of last season" was almost the whole season, so using that against Ottavino is a bit much. Plus, the guy had 18 IP, last year. Do we want to say he sucks late year based on one bad game in 2020? 2019: .624 Season OPS Against .637 OPS Aug to SEP (2.79 ERA) 2018: .509 Season OPS Against .592 OPS Against but a 4.44 ERA AUG>SEP Over his career, his worst months are: June .867 July .743 SEP .704 (Not bad at all) Barnes' worst OPS Against months-career: .881 Aug .724 June .704 Sep (not bad at all) Recent years? 2019: .608 in SEP (.891 Aug) 2018: .772 in SEP (1.044 Aug) Looks like Barnes has not liked August, too much, but 2020... 1.012 July .744 Aug .566 Sep
  20. That's weird, because the guys who bust up the dugout after a K kinda bugged me. Like Trot Nixon. (Cue: Nixon love stories.)
  21. Only if you look very closely.
  22. Not a repeatable skill.
  23. I guess I didn't, then.
  24. I resemble that remark!
  25. I take everything back: he's the greatest!
