  1. I swore off game threads for a while, but I have to state the obvious: our D sucks!
  2. The A’s lost by allowing 2 in the top of the 9th. They’ve lost 6 of 9 and play their next 7 games vs SFG 1, SEA 2 and NYY 3.
  3. Sox among MLB OPS Leaders: 13. Schwarber .931 16. Devers .906 19. Bogaerts .904 25. Martínez .891 70. Renfroe .800 77. Hernandez .794 99. Verdugo .764
  4. Although our starters did not rack up a bunch of innings, they still went deeper than most teams. Plus, we had an 8 or 9 man pen almost the whole season. We are still 12th in starter IP.
  5. Rays won and the Yanks are about to win. The A’s play the Giants. We gotta keep winning!
  6. Exactly, and part of that was showing restraint, this deadline and not doing anything rash last winter until we learned more about what slots we could fill from within the system. By starting off so well, we had to cut short some of the plans on giving longer looks to guys like Cordero, Dalbec and maybe Duran, but we did find out about Whitlock, Pivetta, Renfroe, Arroyo and a little more about Houck.
  7. But your whole point was that he was worse because it was the pressure of the playoffs and the impossibility it could be anything else, especially just random bad luck.
  8. if you count 2020 as 40% of a season, Schwarber has averaged about 540 PAs a season on NL teams since 2017. While that does show a little problem with durability, it’s not a major red flag number. I do agree letting him play or move towards playing more DH over a long term contract makes the most sense.
  9. I think we go significantly over in 2022. With the amount of money coming off the books and not many key slots needing to filled with expensive players, I see us being right near the top next year- 2023 at the latest. My big hope is that this time the window stays open longer than 3-4 years.
  10. Not sad for Reds’ fans!
  11. Even this past winter, we spent way more on new contracts than most teams.
  12. We might be just one glorious big come from behind win away from going on a long winning stretch, and I’m not talking about just vs crappy teams.
  13. No doubt. Too many feel like a team will always continue playing exactly like they did in the last game or two or week or two, despite being proved wrong time after time. I can see how that can be viewed as comical.
  14. Every Sox fan was or still is demoralized by recent events. It’s totally natural. Even the most optimistic and die hard fans had and maybe still have doubts that may include thinking or wondering if our first 90-100 games were just a mirage, a miracle or some cruel joke played on our souls. To me, there is a difference between demoralization and total or near total loss of loyalty to the team, the players, the manager, GM and even the owner. I understand reactionary anger often found on game threads, and how many times overly frustrated people say extreme things they might not even always believe, but even after sleeping on it or by simply remembering all the histories of teams fighting back after long periods of struggling, it seems like despite us being just a half game out of the playoffs, too many Sox fans have totally given up. To me, that is sad. I don’t expect blind loyalty and only happy thoughts, but complete loss of faith to a team that has fought back all year and shown tremendous grit seems extreme.
  15. Same here. I also thought they had signed HRam to play 3B, which might have worked out better. I respected the plan to wait until the next years winter to sign a pitcher, but in hindsight, signing Scherzer not this trio would have changed everything for Ben & Co.
  16. Much was frustrating and unenjoyable, but I wouldn’t trade any of it. By and large, the Sox have been fun to watch and root for. I suffered decades of much worse being a Bucks and Packers fan, but winning it all is something all my teams have done, so I shouldn’t complain, too much. My university won the national championship in my freshman year, so life has been good.
  17. I’m not the only one that remained optimistic through the implosion period. Many knew the schedule got easier for us and harder for some of our closest competitors. Sure, there are those who are constantly thinking the team is only as good as their last game or two, and I guess that can be viewed as comical or even absurd.
  18. I never lost hope and optimism. Nothing funny about it.
  19. Arroyo is playing in the minors. He played 2B, last night.
  20. As bad as things have looked for the Sox, we are still just 3 games behind having the second best record in the AL and 5.5 from the best. We are a half game behind Oakland, who has a very mighty schedule remaining.
  21. How about the Reds tying the Padres for the last WC slot? Strength of schedule helps, but still...
  22. Of course there is a world of difference between Casas and the mix of players I mentioned, and maybe he’ll be up and contributing before you even expect it, but it’s all conjecture. Counting on him by not acquiring at least a one year signee at 1B could mean another year of 1B trouble. To me, a guy like Schwarber offers a perfect so,union, assuming he shows he can play 1B without looking like a fool. If Dalbec and or Casas come through, Schwarber moves on to more of an Of/DH role.
  23. I’ve been one to highly criticize DD’s farm emptying tactics, although I have never said he left it bare. Keeping Devers was huge, and he deserves credit for drafting pretty well with some rather low picks. His IFA record was not all that great, but he was handed 2 years of restriction by Ben. That being said, I really like what Bloom has added to the farm and big club. Whitlock Mayer Downs Yorke Jordan Seabold Wong Winckowski Bleis RHernandez McDonough Hickey And others that may rise quickly through the ranks. I have to admit I was a little disappointed by Rosario Potts German Wallace And others, but overall you expect some won’t come through or will take longer than hoped. Bloom also acquired a lot of raw talent with high upside. Only time will tell with them.
  24. What makes these numbers even more shocking is that the Twins have not been a bad team for most of these seasons. They’ve made the playoffs 9 times since 2002. I wonder what their record is in non Yankee games since then.
  25. The 2021 Red Sox bandwagon still has a few recently vacated seats available for those who might want to reconsider giving up on this gritty team. Just sayin’.
