Could be. There aren't really any encouraging signs, right now. -
It seems obvious, to me, it happens. How many times do players sign the first day of allowable signings? Did the agent really not talk to other teams while the player was still legally under contract to the player's previous club?

He'd just be given a 1or 2 year deal. (Likely, 1 with a club option and buy out.) I'm not saying he's the best choice out there, but he may be one of the best choices in his price range, and I'd be happy seeing him on our roster.

Iggy has far more than 64 PAs in Fenway. He's a career .700 OPS guy. .798 at Fenway in 252 career PAs .800 at Camden Yards (163 career PAs) .767 at Yankee Stadium

It's probably not rampant. It's just hard to imagine two sides in a rushed and intense negotiation, and then just stopping cold turkey. Silence.

I'd be happy, if we brought back Iggy. He shouldn't cost too much, either. I'm not expecting the 2021 offense, again, but he's a solid defender and good clubhouse influence.

I think everyone knows my opinion on keeping Kike in the OF. Getting a middle infielder who CAN stay on the filed would maximize Kike's OF playing time. Getting Suzuki would be nice, but it would all but force Kike to play 2B more than I'd like.

Getting a decent 2Bman, who can back up SS, seems better than looking at RH'd OF'ers.

I would not be surprised if many agents are, wink-wink, "talking" with teams.

Could Kike possibly play RF? JBJ is just so in tune with CF, although I'm sure he's a huge defensive up grade over Renfroe in RF. Arroyo is a bit of a wild card. It is possible for him to have a fully or near fully complete season, and that could force the choices. Like you, I would not count on Arroyo for jack, but he is on the roster and has skills. I'm thinking McCutchen would be for LF, with Verdugo maybe playing RF when McCutchen is in LF.

Soxprospects.com finally placed the two prospects we obtained from Milwaukee in their rankings list. 18. Alex Binelas (after Walter and before Song) 26. David Hamilton (after Paulino and before Crawford) I thought they'd both be a bit higher, and maybe they'll move up quickly.

Well, bringing up the fact that McCutchen is cheaper than Renfroe and JBJ is better defensively, but then ignoring JBJ's cost seems amiss, to me.

Cheaper? JBJ+McCutchen? Vs LHP, it's sideways. I thought that was implied.

The "Hernandez" at catcher is Ronaldo Hernandez-perhaps our most promising catching prospect. Wong might have a better chance.

Bloom may get rid most or all long term deals, ut he won't stop signing 1-2 year deals, so this list is really just an in-system view.

We likely traded Renfroe because of his defense. I'm not sure McCutchen addresses the RF defense issue. (JBJ might, but having a RH'd bat in RF would improve the offense.)

2019-2021 32 Catchers have 600+ PAs (That says a lot, right there.) Vaszuez ranks... 16th OPS at .741, but only 7 catchers had an OPS over .780 (One just retired.) 19th in wRC+ at 94 However, when you look at the overall OPS by catchers in MLB, the league OPS has been: .713 in 2019 .695 in 2020 .696 in 2021

So many gave up on the Sox, and there were enough reasons to do so. Winning 11 of our last 16 games, despite being swept by the Yanks followed by losing 2 of 3 vs Baltimore was an amazing feat. Guys like Schwarber, Iggy, Shaw, Robles, Davis and even Richards from the pen got us through some very difficult stretches. This was a memorable season from start to finish. Cora did an awesome job. Bloom filled about 15 slots on the 40 man and worked that damn taxi squad like a maniac. 23 different non pitchers got a PA in 2021. 33 no everyday players pitched for the Sox. That's 55 players! Several 40 man roster players never got called up, so think of all the turnover and taxi squad additions and subtractions made. I'm glad the 40 man roster only had a handful of glaring holes to fill, this winter. -
It seems to be the trend, now in the NCAA. Sad, but true.
