  1. Often, the city ends up having to deal with the defunct stadium after it has outlived its usefulness. The voters, here in Houston, voted to demolish the old Astrodome, yet it still stands nearly a decade later.
  2. I'm thinking a deal gets done, real soon, and no games are lost. I can't see the players losing games and money over an international draft. The gaps on other major issues narrowed quickly. Lux Tax Limits: After previously seeking year-to-year thresholds of $238MM, $244MM, $250MM, $256MM and $263MM, today’s proposal from the union offered thresholds of $232MM in 2022, $235MM in 2023, $240MM in 2024, $245MM in 2025 and $250MM in 2026. Those new thresholds from the MLPBA represent respective gaps of $2MM, $3MM, $4MM, $5MM and $8MM from the league’s proposed thresholds. Their $65MM bonus pool checks in $25MM north of the league’s proposed $40MM (the equivalent of $833K per team). Min Salary: The latest union proposal would have a $710K league minimum in 2022. That’s just $10K north of the league’s proposed $700K figure. The league’s offered minimum would finish at $770K by the end of the CBA, while the union is seeking $780K by 2026. Bonus Pool: the union’s dropped its bonus pool proposal to $65MM and I think MLB has held firm at $30M. It seems this gap can be closed. (Italics are from MLBTR)
  3. It might have helped, if the owners put an offer on the table, day one. A decent offer might have been an even better idea.
  4. I find it hard to believe the majority of fans agree with me.
  5. I'm not sure why the Int'l draft is such a big issue to the players. If it does away with the QO, it seems like a no-brainer. I think a deal gets done real soon, if this is really the biggest obstacle.
  6. Then, after they "started" actual negotiations, they "improved" their offer from like $220M to $221. Recently, they jumped to $230M. Yes, the players asked for the world, but they quickly made significant modifications to each new counteroffer.
  7. #33 Enderso Lira: https://soxprospects.com/players/lira-enderso.htm High-variance catching prospect with considerable upside. Has all the tools you look for in a catching prospect of his age, but is a long way from actualizing them. Lot of development remaining. Present value is all about projecting what happens in the future as he physically matures. Turns 19 in October.
  8. Football games can be watched in about 30 mins.
  9. Now, you've really done it!
  10. I'm all for a pitch clock, robo umps and a universal DH. I often tune into a Sox game about 60-90 minutes after it starts. I fast forward the commercials and sometimes between pitches and usually join live by the 8th inning.
  11. Who is reporting this news on Kike?
  12. Yes, their attempt at changing the fans' perception.
  13. I know the shift has increase greatly. I know the reasons why. I think most people don't like it. I get why a change is coming. I'm not so sure the extent that analytics has hurt the game is as bad as many think it is, but I can see how many see it that way.
  14. soxprospects.com reports... IFA Signings and Other Acquisitions http://news.soxprospects.com/2022/03/scouting-report-updates-2022-ifa.html
  15. OK, and they're not on the 40 man roster, either.
  16. But, they act like giving the players 162 games (and 162 games of pay) is a concession.
  17. Is the amateur draft in the CBS?
  18. Good analogy. It's hard to believe anything Manfred says.
  19. And, then there's this... ...the international draft has become a key sticking point (Twitter links). He hears that the league considers it a crucial feature of any agreement but the union still has concerns about its inclusion in a deal.
  20. A bit more of a gap, here... It’s also worth noting that MLB’s last known offer was for a $40MM pre-arbitration bonus pool that did not increase throughout the five-year CBA. The MLBPA’s last known proposal came in at $80MM in 2022 with growth to $100MM in ’26. Nicholson-Smith has noted that “players have indicated a willingness” to move to a $70MM starting point growing to $90MM. That would still mark a sizable gap.
  21. So, the owners have now gone up to $230M on the lux tax but want to add a 4th tier. It sounds like the gap is closing on this issue. MLBTR... The owners would like to add a Third Surcharge Threshold. Using the owners’ latest offer, the 2022 thresholds would be set at $230MM, $250MM, $270MM, and $290MM, with increasing tax rates for each tier. That new Third Surcharge Threshold would always sit $60MM above the Base Tax Threshold.
  22. Is this now the 4th deadline of threatened loss of MLB games, or did I miss 1 or 2?
  23. Yes, that sounds like the most plausible reason, but that doesn't change my opinion. I am fully aware that my opinion is in the minority. Plus, it's not like like I love the shift, but I see it as always being a part of the game, and there being no need to change it. I understand rules have been changed in the past, like the DH in the AL, which greatly changed the game and nature of stats and records. I can see how many were against that change, too. Many were for it. I'm totally fine with people disagreeing with me, and know there are many of them. I'm not sure why I feel the need to keep saying that. I get the feeling you feel like I think my opinions are fact or undebatable.
  24. Understood.
  25. Point well-taken.
