  1. "Total bases" is not "hits+walks." Hits don't count dbls as 2, triples as 3 and HRs as 4.
  2. Maybe Cora's biggest skill, so far, has been cobbling together decent pens, when they look awful, or close to awful, on paper. Let's hope that's a repeatable skillset.
  3. True. His 6.5% BB rate was the lowest of his career. Only his 7.3% in 2014 was close. His career BB% is 9%, and it was higher before 2021.
  4. The infield is a mirror image of what it should be.
  5. I think Barnes will be fine. He won't be like he was the first 3 months of 2021, but he might come close.
  6. I think they paid him, assuming he'd miss one full season. The pay kind of matches that thinking, if you assume he'd be the pitcher he was before signing. Essentially, they signed him to $145M/4 with one no play year. That's $36M x 4. Still high, but as a free agent, at the time of the signing, that's what he might have gotten.
  7. Barnes & Noble.
  8. Agreed. I will add that we were missing our best starter, Chris Sale for more than two thirds of the season. Perhaps our best replacement starter, Houck, missed some time during Sale's injury, too, but yes, overall our rotation held up pretty well, health wise.
  9. Frank was the best character by far.
  10. Man crush. Ewwww!
  11. No, but my guess is it is ballpark. (like that one?)
  12. 20-21: .572 Holt (58 OPS+) .683 Shaw (84 OPS+) 3 years OPS+ 78 Holt 69 Shaw 4 years 89 Holt 91 Shaw 5 years 83 Holt 101 Shaw
  13. The Sox had 1434 hits, last year and scored 829 runs. If you apply the same ratio to 30 hits, it comes to 17.3 runs, or 1.73 WAR- rounded up to 2.
  14. We got nothing for Fisk. We mailed his contract a day late. We did get back good talent in many of the trades we made, but that winning team was dismantled and replaced by teams that did not really compete from 10980 to 1985. Sure, we sucked for a year after trading Betts, but the future looks bright. It did not back then.
  15. Bringing back ex-Sox players seems to be popular. If we traded Arroyo or Duran, I could see bring Brock back.
  16. He can play OF, but he bats lefty.
  17. Fingers crossed.
  18. To develop such a great core of young players and add a classy guy like Tiant was such a great thing to do, then the GM (and owner) destroyed it all.
  19. The Sporting News gives the Sox the 4th best odds in the division: +170 TOR +221 NYY +253 TBR +491 BOS +17300 BAL It's not even close! AL Champs? +423 HOU +440 TOR +543 CWS _545 NYY +645 TBR +831 BOS World Series +475 LAD +889 TOR +946 HOU +1107 NYY +1127 NYM +1173 CWS +1194 MIL +1260 ATL +1329 ATL +1521 SDP +1711 BOS
  20. My fearless predictions will be coming out soon. (spoiler alert: JD will be over .825)
  21. I remember softlaw wanting him demoted, then he blasted me for suggesting we move him down to the 6 or 7 slot, until he worked through his issues.
  22. Nice post. Things might have been different had we just kept our core together. The Fisk fiasco was totally uncalled for and insane. Trading Lynn, Burly, Carbo, Smith, Scott, Cooper, Lee and others and letting guys like Tiant walk really ruined the whole decade.
