  1. I get a sneaky feeling Rafaela will hit better than DL.
  2. There was also rumors he hurt himself in a non baseball way, and the Sox did him a favor by not making that public. Then he pouts, like it's the team not him that was wronged. We dumped him just in time. Some longer term affects of that trade: For comp picks on OCab going FA: Ellsbury Lowrie We later got Melancon for Lowrie and Holt for Lowrie. We later got Kopech as a comp pick for losing Ellsbury and Sale for Kopech, Moncada and others. The gift that kept on giving.
  3. Ok, but 40 HRs per 650 PAs since 2019 is something "some might argue" is his biggest strength.
  4. Some might argue his power is his strength, but you are right. He would not DH. I guess, if we signed him, it might make Ref a platoon DH and 4th OF'er.
  5. If we are looking for a discount and possible upgrade at DH and possible back-up 1B or LF/RF, what about these FAs? Y Gurriel (RHP) 38 y/o .778 since 2019 (20 HR/162) .747 since 2021 (108 OPS+) .807 v LHP/ .763 RHP career splits Vogelbach (LHB) 30 y/o .769 OPS since 2019 (25 HR per 162 gams) .762 OPS since 2020 (112 OPS+) Career: .822 v RHPs (.485 v RHPs) Naquin (LHP) .756 since 2019 (20 HR/ 162) .765 since 2020 (101 OPS+) .794 career v R (.611 v L) Pollack (RHB) .794 since 2019 (27 HR/162) .774 since 2021 (OPS+ 111) Duvall (RHB) Just turned 34 .770 since 2019 (37 HRs/162) .738 since 2021 (97 OPS+) Brantley (LHB) will not be cheap, but he turns 36, next year and may not cost a lot. .832 since 2019 .795 since 2021 .841 v RHP career (.693 v LHP) Jose Abreu would liely be too expensive, as would B Belt.
  6. With his D, he cold probably hit worse than that and bea FT'er on some ML team, but I agree. We'd need that to happen to hand him a FT job. I think he can hit .260-.275, but I'm not sure he can reach an 8% BB rate.
  7. Valentin was very under-rated.
  8. Myers. I'm not high on Mancini, anymore. He's fallen off a cliff with HOU and can't play D, anymore.
  9. You are making a strong case for why dWAR should be totally ignored.
  10. I'd really like to know who SEA would settle on for him. They may want a prospects not needed to be added to the 40.
  11. All it takes is gold paint?
  12. Maybe. I said decent, and people were ooooing and ayyying. Yes, he was always over-rated, but I think he was close to decent, early on. I won't argue if people say he was worse than decent.
  13. There was no UZR or DRS for the early part of Nomar's career, but he sucked on D, near the end. Not my eye test, only. He sucked. It wasn't even close.
  14. The ball is not a HR in 28 parks. There is nothing to dwell on. They were bitching that his exit velocity was 110, while the Astros HR was something like 90. Really? That's what they want to talk about? Yes, both games were close, but if this is what the Yanks are thinking, it is not promising.
  15. He deserved it. It's all about his hit tool, now.
  16. I think he is worth more than what BTV says he is, despite the "issues" he has, but I'd give them Abreu & Hosmer. I like him more than anyone else we have at DH, right now.
  17. Certainly not for $20M/2.
  18. I'm going on the assumption that even if we don't reset, we'll stay near the tax line, as we usually do. IMO, it also makes more sense to re-set, this year than in 2024, when devers is due, and we have more young players to improve our foundation, thereby making 2024 more of an "all in" year than 2023, but that's just my opinion.
  19. That was about the jist of Yankee bitching, last night. Pathetic. Own up. Stop sucking and maybe you can win.
  20. Nomar was a decent defensive SS, early on, but became a negative in his last 2-3 years in Boston. IMO, he was all flash. His throwing on the run, while twisting, was often not needed, but made the play look harder than it really was.
  21. No mention of what Seattle would want in return.
  22. I don't think we should spend much money on a 1Bman, but since we also could use help at DH, maybe we try to sign an aging, low-cost vet who can play 1B or maybe even 1B and RF, but primarily be the DH or platoon DH.
  23. Arroyo has done fine, when healthy. In the rotation/platoon I am talking about (not advocating for) would not really "count on him," since we have several other options to go with. One issue is we can't have 6 guys on the bench rotating at DH. It will have to be 3, with one being a back up OF'er (Refsnyder?) and one bing a back up infielder (Arroyo, when healthy or maybe EValdez) plus Dalbec or Hosmer, and since Hosmer is a lefty bat, it would likely be him. (Dalbec, Valdez & Ref have options.) I'd love to improve on our .763 DH OPS, this year, but if we can greatly improve RF, stay even at SS and see Kike return to near 2021 levels, we may be able to afford just coming close to .763 in 2022. Can this combo give us .763 or better? Hosmer v R Ref/Arroyo v L I think it's a close call. I'd love to improve on it, but we may not have enough resources to fill every wish on the wish list.
  24. Never heard so much whining and bitching by the Yanks. Sev complains about an HR that would be an HR in 25 parks and we hear bitching about Judge's ball not being a HR, despite it not being hit far enought o be an HR in 28 parks. They actually complained about the roof being open. Wah-wah-wah. How about facing the fact that no team has ever K'd 12 or more times in 3 straight playoff games. (30 times in the last 2 games.) You guys are built on an all or nothing batting philosophy that more often that not produces nothing.
