  1. I agree on Downs. His trade value is close to nil, but he still has time to take a big step forward- maybe one more year. Brasier has 99 lives. Duran and DHern still show serious skills at the AAA level. I'm just fed up with both. BTV has Duran at 5.9, which I think is double his value. It really comes down to how much another GM values 2-3 of them and how we value what they offer back-- I know, brilliant concept, right?
  2. I was responding to your response to him. Is that not allowed? Don't we "all have a right to voice our opinions?" (and yes, you never said I couldn't.)
  3. The current market value at any time on the timeline is what I have repeated over and over. They did not think he was worth $160M/6 when the signed Story, or before, IMO. They did not think he was worth $170M/6, $185M/7 or $200M/8 or whatever the lowest Bogey would have accepted, at any point in the timeline. It's my opinion based on what little information any of us have. It's speculation, but my evidence is pretty solid: if at any time we felt he was worth what he'd have taken, he'd be signed, right now. If that sniffs of "conspiracy theory," please explain why?
  4. Yes. I relayed what I thought was a fact. I think they meant WS win. I quickly apologized for quoting someone. I'm not sure what this has to do with me saying I don't think about things like why or why not the Sox owner talks to sports talk shows.
  5. My horizons are very broad. It doesn't include sports talk shows from the Boston area. That is probably not a bad thing. I read most of the links people post here, unless there is a firewall. Some are absurd. Some are insightful and enlightening. Like I said, I don't doubt we may have been the highest bidder, by far, on Yoshida. Why are you still acting like there is a disagreement? I'm not sure anyone here takes anything people say here as gospel, even their own statements, so more strawmen constructions, again.
  6. I have already said it very well might be true. Strawman, again.
  7. I called it speculation: you called it "conspiracy theory." I could probably find a respectable media person who said something like, "The Sox never wanted to pay the current market value for Bogey." I just won't bother looking.
  8. I'd take a few Koss-like gambles and free up some roster slots. Agreed, Ort would just be DFA'd. I do think we might get a better player than Koss for a Duran + Downs + Dhern package. Maybe a Winckowski or E Valdez type or a non 40 man roster type like Wikelman, Lugo or Jordan/Kavadas.
  9. Personally, I'd never even try imagining such things or think about them, if reading some posts here forced the thought on me.
  10. This explains your thought process to a tee.
  11. I didn't say you called any opinions tupid, but the way you react shows utter contempt for many. You recently called an opinion I qualified as total speculation a "conspiracy theory." I'm not sure which is worse. Again, you say social media does not affect your opinion, then prove the opposite is true.
  12. A real tough feat.
  13. I know it's not easy finding a team that is looking to take 2-3 players from the 40 man roster for 1 of there own, and who thing any combination of these guys are better than the players on the bottom of their 40, but I'd love to see us trade 3-4 of these guys for 1-2 slightly better players or prospects that don't need to be on the 40. Duran Downs Brasier DHern Ort Taylor (if we don't think he can return to form) maybe one or two from Crawford, Seabold or Winckowski This makes room for 2-4 more signings or additions through trades.
  14. We've seen plenty of AAA players with super high OBPs not transfer that to the bigs, but low K rates seem to be something that is an innate skill that does not rely as heavily on the skills of opposing pitcher upgrades from one leve to the enxt. We will see, soon enough.
  15. Of course this is social media. I'm not the one denying talk shows are not. As you like to say, "Where did I ever say this site is not social media?" I'm not the one acting like what any social media site's perceived majority thinks matters all that much. BTW, can you do me a favor, even I don't deserve one from you, please answer the Q at the end of post #471?
  16. We have no way of knowing if his skillset will transfer well to MLB, but it's adan good approach that this team was seriously lacking, last year. maybe it can rub off on some of the free-swinging players who helped sink the team, this year. maybe not. I respect the effort to improve in this area, despite the obvious risks. I also like the idea of stocking up on lefties. Several recent rule changes have aided their production projections. No more loogies. No more shifts.
  17. ...and calling us a cult is so civil and respectful.
  18. So, when you think an opinion is stupid, it's all about everyone having a right to an opinion. When another thinks you're opinion is stupid, it's some sort of derangement syndrome. Who is being intolerant of varying opinions, here? The cult or those seeing those who disagree as a cult?
  19. A very realistic concern that all of us share. Some players do very well. Some do not. There is no tool we can use to be sure about anything, but there is no tool that say Syndergaard or deGrom will earnt their pay, either. Sure, we seem to know what they can and might so, if healthy by a wider margin than we know about Yoshida, but there is risk with every signing. Looking at his numbers in Japan, one could say he's worth twice what we paid for him. We paid him half, because of the risk. Maybe, we could have gotten him for a third. Maybe, it's probable we could have. If he works out, I won't be bothered by the "outbid." If he sucks, I'll blast the move like I did the JBJ, Diekman and other deals I disliked from day one and those I came to dislike in hindsight. There are plenty. There will likely be more. Maybe this one- maybe not.
  20. Back then he had an answer he felt people might accept. I still don't get your fascination with social media while denying it influences your positions.
  21. Thanks for bringing laughter to me day.
  22. I wouldn't use the term "bothered," but of course I am concerned based on the risk of this sort of signing being higher than a MLB player. BTW, you just said, "I’m not against the signing...," so where are we in disagreement? I, too, would like to have gotten him for cheaper, if we could have, but if we got what we wanted and he earns the money, I'm not going to stress over it.
  23. Hits are usually better than walks, but OBP includes hits, too. I'd rather have... BA/OBP .280/.350 than .290/.333
  24. Does it matter? If they didn't count it, they'd have just adjusted the tax line down by $16M.
  25. We are not sure we were "way above" everyone, but the bidding always stops when the agent thinks nothing bigger is forthcoming. If it turns out our offer was $10, $20 or $30M more than anyone else would have offered, that would be unfortunate and worthy of someone calling it "stupid." but if we got the guy we wanted, and he works out well, it won't bother me much. I will say, I wish we had $3-6M more in AAV to spend, this winter, had we been able to get him for much cheaper.
