  1. Jansen giving us his Kimbrel impression.
  2. A review of some of our most notable contracts: 2023 counts as a year... Devers: 11 years remaining with 10 year deal kicking in starting in 2024. Sale: 2 years remaining with 2025 option at $20M. Story: 5 years remaining with $25M option for year 7 (2028 w $5M buyout) Yoshida: 5 years remaining Whitlock: 4 years with 2 option years ($8.25M w $1M buyout for '27 & $10.5M w $500K buyout for '28) Jansen: 2 years (no option) Martin: 2 years (no option) Kluber: 1 year plus $11M club option Turner: 1 year with player option and ($6.7M club buyout on $14.3M option) Bleier: 1 year plus $3.75M club option ($250K buyout) Joely Rodriguez: 1 year plus $4.25M option ($500k BUYOUT) Duvall, Kike, Paxton, Mondesi: last year 1 arb left after 2023: Dugo, Pivetta, Arroyo, Refsnyder 2 arbs left: McGuire & Chang 3 arbs left: Schreiber & Dalbec Pre-arb in 2014: Houck, Bello, Casas, Winck, Crawford, Wong, Mills, Kelly & all others.
  3. Nice buckle-down by Martin.
  4. And, he's still pre-Arb, so we may yet get plus return on that deal. Who-da-thunk?
  5. How about the start by the Rays? They are up 8-0, today, and are looking to go 9-0. They sure knew how to take advantage of a favorable early schedule: 4-0 DET 12-2 DET 5-1 DET 6-2 WAS 10-6 WAS 7-2 WAS 9-5 OAK 11-0 OAK up 8-0, now on OAK No win was by less than 4 runs!
  6. Why not Turner to 1B, Yoshida to DH and Duvall to LF. On D: Turner> Duvall at 1B Duvall> Yoshida LF Kike > Duvall CF
  7. His offensive numbers had suggested he could be given a chance to prove himself as a FT player, but he's not making that case, right now. It did take 2 injuries to get him into this role.
  8. To me, it's way too soon to make a big shuffle, but there is only so long one can go. The way Arroyo is looking, maybe starting Chang at SS and Kike at 2B would be an improvement on IF D- maybe not. Just because Kike is on pace for 100 errors, doesn't mean he will end up with even 25. I really don't think he is this bad. I think we are stuck with what we got, until Story or Mondesi give us another option. By then, maybe the dust will have settled or a clear choice will be evident on who needs to sit.
  9. Anybody keeping track of how many weak hits the opps have gotten, this year- like that one to Kike, today? I know every team sees it happen to them, but beyond our errors and failure to catch third strikes, we seem to have more than our fair share of hits against us, that other teams turn into outs.
  10. It's not an easy fix, either. The "relief" seems so far away, in the return of Story and or Mondesi, which might move Kike to CF, assuming he's hitting over .180. Our top bats appear to be Devers, Duvall, Yoshida (not proven yet) and maybe Verdugo and Turner, Moving Kike to CF mean shuffling the deck and sitting one of these guys or Casas, which seems like robbing Peter to pay Paul. Maybe it all works out, eventually, but don't expect an early season trade that addresses this problem on D.
  11. Too bad Wongref could not bring him in.
  12. 2 men have reached on base with a strike out in out first 9 games. Both have led to a run(s.) Yes, our defense sucks at too many slots.
  13. I'm just glad my past has no such bait click incidents.
  14. The one known as "the one that got away."
  15. I get the timeline argument, but one has to think some plans were already in place when they signed Turner. I also think Turner was added as insurance for the uncertainty of Casas at 1B and as a backup to Devers at 3B. We are just talking conjecture and what ifs. As it turned out, Andrus was signed to play 2B- not that we couldn't have played him at SS. I was all on board with signing Andrus, and when we see what he signed for, we could have had Yoshida, Turner, Mondesi and Andrus and not Chang.
  16. Selectively choosing the most "bait worthy" passage is telling.
  17. How about consistently average or below average on D, like the Padres' SS?
  18. They could have signed a SS and not signed Turner. It did not have to be Duvall vs a SS. (Yoshida plays DH and Duvall LF.) At the risk of sounding blasphemous to some, we could also have traded Casas for a pitcher, or maybe even a pitcher and SS, and played Turner at 1B, Yoshida at DH and Duvall in LF.
  19. My biggest pet peeve vs Cora is all the days off he gives the players. It doesn't seem to have helped lessen injuries. It doesn't seem to have helped players do better in August and September. It may keep the bench players sharper, but does that outweigh the loss of production, so often? (I'd say no.)
  20. I think you are on to sometqhing: Brasiers new nickname should be Brasarus.
  21. It will be a big test when we play better teams, and we should be 5-3 vs who we just played, but every year there are examples where we do well vs some good teams and poorly vs some bad teams: 2022 4-2 v HOU, 2-1 v STL, 6-1 v SEA, 5-2 v CLE 1-2 v Cubs, 3-4 v KCR 2021 3-1 v ATL, 10-9 v NYY & TOR 3-4 v TEX & 3-3 v OAK I know our offense won't be this good, all year, but it looks solid, to me, even without Story. Our D might improve, if we can get Kike to CF and Story & or Mondesi back to the middle IF. Our pitching is the wild card in so many ways. We have a lot of pitchers who could be very good or even great, but they could also not do very well or get hurt, again.
  22. 4-4 after 8 games. Now what I had hoped for, but there is plenty of season left to play. The O looks fine, so far. The D looks real bad. The pitching seems to be improving.
  23. Singing to the choir. I mentioned a way we can improve the D by shifting a few guys around, but I don't think Casas should be benched indefinitely to make it happen. I'm also not sure Change hits any better, and he's not great on D, either. I'm not sure we can say Chang is better on D based on 4 errors by Kike out of the gate, but if he is, certainly that is an option, too.
  24. Dermody looked good for Woo: 5 IP 2 H 0 ER 1 BB 2 K Some short sample, yet eye-opening OPS at Woo: 1.581 CHamilton 1.282 Sogard 1.122 Palka 1.102 Duran 1.083 Alfaro 1.000 Dalbec .900 Goodrum .810 Allen At Portland (won today): 1.750 Dearden 1.714 Rosier 1.212 Koss 1.111 Binelas Salem completed the organization sweep, today (Greenville was rained out.) E R-C 3 IP 0 H 0 ER 5 BB 2 K Bleis 1-5 Anthony 2-5 Ravelo 1-3, 2 BB James 3-3, 2B & SF .973 McDonough .900 Yorke
  25. We could sit Casas, who is hitting worse than Kike, right now. 1B Turner DH Yoshida LF Duvall CF Kike
