  1. I get that I read too much into the point being not about games played but about games played at specific positions. I just see Turner as always being a FT players, and playing DH provides more experience and 2022 action than almost anyone. Yes, Dugo barely played RF. The 2020 team was awful from day one- on paper and in reality. The 2023 team is not, on paper. I'll leave it at that.
  2. It's not that he didn't say great, and you know that.
  3. It was still a valid opinion, at the time, and it's fine to still believe we should have 4 OF'ers not 5. BTW, I don't think I ever said "they would." I said "they should." It's just plain untrue and "wrong" to say Kike is not a good defensive CF'er or that Othani is the worst player in MLB.
  4. Opinions can be categorically wrong. Absurd opinions may be discussed or debated as much as people want, but to me, some obviously wrong opinions being discussed is a waste of time. When I say "end of discussion," I am just giving my opinion that the topic is not worthy of discussion. Others may continue arguing the merits of absurd positions all they want. They may also parrot absurd positions and then say, Let's move on" all they want, too. To each his own. To me, it's absurd to think the opening day 2020 roster looked better than the this 2023 roster. People can disagree all they want. Now, if Sale and ERod had been healthy in 2020, the comps would be much closer, but that 2020 team was not like 2018, despite having some of the same players.
  5. GMs who sign Injured or injury prone players have always been criticized. I think it is valid. Saying "everyone except Bloom knew" he'd go on the 60 day IL is just plain untrue.
  6. Since Story was known to be out to start the year, I do think the hopes were that he'd be an early option at SS- likely not opening day, but I don't thin Bloom or anyone expected a 60+ days wait. Can or should Bloom be blamed for not knowing or "guessing wrongly?" Maybe- maybe not. I do think the team would be better with Mondesi at SS and Kike in CF (or 2B, if Duvall does well.)
  7. And opinions can't be wrong?
  8. Be consistent with the criteria. Turner played 66 at 3B, but he is the DH for us. Chavis played 49 at 1B in 2019, but he counts more than Turner at DH? Dalbec played 0 at 1B in MLB in 2019. I think some over-hyping about the 2020 opening day everyday players is occuring.
  9. Didn't you write "age 27?"
  10. Certainly, we all knew Mondesi might not start the year on the 26, but not many felt he'd be on the 60. To say "everyone knew" is either gross exaggeration of something worse.
  11. Kike was mediocre on D in CF?
  12. Turner played a full season, as did Yoshida- just not for the Sox. Casas played more in 2022 than Dalbec did in 2019.
  13. I'm sure you like opinions that disagree with you. Hurray! Yes, feel free to bring up and discuss absurd opinions, then move on. Nobody is stopping you, but it should also be okay to express the opinion that doing so is absurd or pointless, right?
  14. The Navy ages players 1-2 years more.
  15. Actually, several sites had Mondesi's ETA listed as Mid to late April, a few weeks ago.
  16. And the previous results of the players on the opening day 26 man roster in 2020 were way worse than 2023's. Not even close. Not worth discussing, although one can discuss anything they wish. Why you chose this is a wonder.
  17. ...and then go on to give info and comments that supports his position.
  18. Why only list dingers? Beni was coming off a .774 OPS season in 2019- no0t bad, but not great. JBJ was .738. Pillar had a .719 OPS in 2019. Peraza .631 Vaz had a very nice 2019 season, but nobody knew which Vaz was going to show up in 2020: .602 2014-2016 .735 in 2017 .540 in 2018 .798 in 2019 Chavis and Marwin? lmao!
  19. Let's say Story and Mondesi were ready to play and we needed to clear 2- 40 man slots. We all agree on Ort, although it's doubtful, he'd be the odd man out, but let's say we had Ward, instead of Ort. The choices would be to DFA Chang and.... Ward or Murphy? Is this really the big deal we have made it into?
  20. So, 3 out of 9 batters and maybe Nate. Got it.
  21. You did say you think it is up for discussion, so it sounds like you think his position has merit. I don't. That's my opinion as well as thinking there is no point to discuss the merits.
  22. So, you like the 2020 opening day roster better than 2023. Noted and WOW!
  23. Nobody said "no talent:" they said less talent. Worse O Worse Pitching Look at the bottom 5 of that line-up: 1. Beni LF 2. JD DH 3. Devers 3B 4. Bogey SS 5. Pillar RF 6. Vaz C 7. Chavis 1B 8. JBJ CF 9. Peraza 2B This year's line-up may be... (Story and Mondesi out) 1. Verdugo 2. Devers 3. Turner 4. Yoshida 5. Duvall 6. Casas 7. Arroyo 8. McGuire 9. Kike (Add Story and the O is way better, but going by just opening day talent, I still like 2023 better than 2020 and close to how I felt going into 2021.
  24. The opening day starting line-up: 1. Beni LF 2. JD DH 3. Devers 3B 4. Bogey SS 5. Pillar RF 6. Vaz C 7. Chavis 1B 8. JBJ CF 9. Peraza 2B 2023 is so much better, on paper, than 2020, it's not even up for discussion. Many had bad thoughts about the 2021 line-up and roster to start the year. 1. Kike was bashed until July for being lead-off. 2. Verdugo was in Mookie's shadow, still. 3. JD was coming off a rough 2020 season. 4. Bogey was about to have 2 straight "down years," but on opening day, we were pumped up. 5. Devers 6. Renfroe was largely unknown and sucked almost all April. 7. Marwin freaking Gonzalez? LOL 8. Vaz was coming off a decent 2020. 9. Dalbec Our first 5 GS'd: Nate, Houck, Richards, Pivetta & Perez
  25. Not as much, even if ERod and Sale were healthy, which they weren't to "start the season" or all season.
