  1. They should have traded him in July '54.
  2. Yes, I was doing an Ole Red parody on parity. The same talent level is here as last year, except for a few more studs on the IL. They are just spread out to teams like Texas, SD and the Mets. Parity does not equal watered down.
  3. Houck and Whitlock have some very "good stuff," too.
  4. Maybe better but not "well." Why he assumes they will all pitch the worst season of their careers is due to bias.
  5. Paxton finally gets his first start for the Sox. Wainwright gets his 392nd with the Cards. (He's had 9 seasons with 31 or more GS'd, including 2019, 2021 and 2022. (He had 10 starts in 2020.) We'll see the dynamic lefty line-up for this one.
  6. A flip from last night as the top of the minors went 2-0 and the bottom 0-2: Woo won Dermody going 6 (9 hits but no BBs and only 2 ER) Hamilton with a big 3 run jack in the 8th to win the game. Crook 1-2 with HR and BB & SF Abreu 0-2 w 2 BB POR won in 10 as Drohan actually looked human (5 IP, 5H, 2ER, 3BB, 6K) Joely & Webb got holds, Guerrero a BS and Fernandez with the 2 IP win. Yorke continues to rake: 2-4, HR and 2 BB (up to .922 OPS, now) Meidroth 3-6 (1.000 OPS) Rafaela 0-5 (.613 OPS) Kavadas 0-3 w 2BB Hickey 1-4 w BB Binelas 1-2 w HR and BB McDonough 2-5 Bonaci went 2-4 w BB in GRE's loss. Ferguson 2 BBs and his 16th SB Salem got a nice start from Rogers (5IP, 1H, 0ER, 3BB, 6K) Bleis went 3-5 (up to .698 after a slow start.) Ravelo 1-3 w HR and BB Anthony 1-4 w BB
  7. Who were the minuses?
  8. Pivetta understands it's Cora & Co's call. Of course he wants to keep starting. It's what you'd expect from any competitor. I doubt he sulks. I'm pretty sure, if he is sent to the pen, he will start, again, at some point, this season, unless he sucks in the pen, or the other 5 guys gel and stay healthy, all year. (LOL!)
  9. Duvall hit over 30 Hrs three times and led the league in rbis in 2021.
  10. Age discrimination! Turner has built up his name very well. It's not his fault another Turner on his team stole his thunder. 202-2022: .818 OPS (38th best in MLB) .852 since 2018 (28th best) The kicker... wait for it... June 18- end of 2022 (at age 37) .958 OPS (6th best in all MLB) in 282 PAs 4th best among all players with over 250 PAs! Take that back!
  11. They only look good, because they play only real sucky teams. Speaking of the Rays, before tonight... 7 of their top 11 PA batters have an OPS over .907. (8 are over .795) Their worst hitter is almost at .700 (Margot at .698.) Their rotation? 0.56 Springs 1.76 McClanahan 2.91 Eflin (The guy Bloom wanted before settling on Kluber.) 3.11 Rasmussen 3.52 Taj Bradley Their closer? 1.17 Adam (They also have Poche 1.29 and Chirinos 1.86.) Yup, they suck- just less.
  12. It's a tough position to play, and he hadn't played it in a long time. A week or so ago, I too brought up how his errors were way down from his first 8 games and 5 errors. He now has an 8 game errorless streak. Not bad for a utility man.
  13. 1 GB the 4th best record in MLB, and we are 2 games from the quarter point of the year.
  14. It doesn't matter. The league is watered down. We actually suck, but just less than most others.
  15. The expectations were so low.
  16. We passed TOR, again. (Thanks Philly.) 3 behind BAL 1/2 up on TOR 1 up on NYY 2 up on LAA 2.5 up on HOU Better winning % than MIN and just 1 GB TEX for the second best record in the AL. 7 GB TBR
  17. LOL! Maybe I reverse cursed Casas.
  18. Even Kike got a key hit. Now that is something!
  19. A loss, tonight would have set this site back on the warpath. For our own sanity, this was a huge win.
  20. It has to start somewhere! Nobody is calling them "suspect," either. (Well, maybe a few...)
  21. His improved defense is nearly as shocking as the offense explosion.
  22. As much as I hate to bring myself to say it, I think we have to trust the team doctors recommendations. He's a long term investment, so I don't think they are motivated by a quick fix.
  23. I'm not for demoting Bello to AAA or even the pen. To me, he's the 2nd best starter in the rotation, or tied with Houck for that slot. (Sale is #1.) Kluber has been doing better since his first start and much better his last 3 starts. The 5 slot is Paxton vs Pivetta, and to me, Paxton need to prove he's better, which should not be too hard, right now. If Paxton gets shelled, I'm not convinced Pivetta to the pen is the right move. I'm also not for making big decisions based one one Paxton start, but I do think he deserves a shot. Ideally, he should start in the pen and earn a starting slot, but he's not a RP'er, so I wouldn't mess with that. It's not an easy call, but I'd give Paxton a few starts. Maybe go with 6 starters for 1 or 2 times through, or just put Pivetta in the pen, now. I do worry we might be messing up our most durable and consistent pitcher in 2 years, by moving him to relief, but I see not better choice.
