  1. He was also very good for the second half of 2021. We may not have even made the playoffs without Kike and Dalbec- two guys in a doghouse similar to Duran's, last year.
  2. We all should love Duran's .600 OPS vs LHPs, this year and .498 career. Cora is such a dummy!
  3. Maybe based n the idea that the farm is full of nothing but "suspects," and nothing short of buying winning seasons, every year is a failed plan. Bloom somehow talked JH into massively cutting the budget.
  4. Agreed. The Story signing seems to have started out as an injured/underperforming big signing, but he still has time to redeem himself and Bloom.
  5. One more shout out to Turner, who should not be surprising anyone. The guy had an .866 OPS over his previous 9 seasons. Amazingly, he’s had at least 1 rbi in 7 straight games. We’ve won 6 of those 7 games. Thanks, Bloom.
  6. We all hope we don't get in a situation where selling is the best option.
  7. 11. Sherriff DFA'd to make room for Chang. Ort placed on 15 day IL to make room for Paxton coming off the PAT list. Next up... Houck (demote Taylor) Whitlock (demote Jacques) Reyes (demote Murphy or Walter and go with 12 pitchers for 1-3 weeks) McGuire (DFA Alfaro) (Joely, Bleier, Kluber, CHamilton- who cares?) Story (DFA Reyes)
  12. So, Wade Boggs hates today's game and how announcers speak of exit velocities and trajectories. I pine for the days of when announcers spoke of Margo and ex Red Sox players playing for the Yanks.
  13. It seems so obvious. Some say our management has no plan. Spending like a maniac is no viable, long term plan. We took the right approach. Now, we have to sit back and see if our scouts and choices were good one. You look at this team, now- sure Turner, Yoshida and Dugo are playing big roles, but we'd be nowhere without Bello, Crawford, Wink, Duran, Casas and a few other small contributions from our recent call-ups. It's no coincidence, we've struggled mightily since 2019, when you realize we only had Houck give us anything useful from the farm from mid 2017 (Devers) to this seasons multi-arrivals.
  14. The JD vs Turner watch: .837 JD .818 Turner Since May 12th .835 JD .858 Turner Since June 8th .640 JD .971 Turner SOX DH Position .834 2023 .763 2022 .906 2021 .623 2020 .776 2019 .862 2018
  15. My guess is lefties Casas and Duran will be in tonight's line-up vs the righty, but Cora has been known to surprise us. The bench might be Alfaro, Refsnyder, Arroyo and Duvall. Maybe go with: C Wong, 1B Casas, 2B Kike, SS DHam, 3B Devers, LF Yoshida, CF Duran, RF Dugo, DH Turner.
  16. MLBTR lists the top trade deadline candidates: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/07/top-50-deadline-trade-candidates-early-july-edition.html Some possible targets for Bloom & Co. SP 1. Giolito CWS 4. Montgomery STL 5. Flaherty STL 6. Stroman CHC 8. Bieber CLE 9. Lorensen DET, 12. ERod DET, 13. Lynn CWS, 16. Blackburn OAK, 20. Civale CLE (Snell is listed at #34.) RP 3. Barlow KCR 7. Robertson NYM 15. Raley NYM, 17. Kelly CWS, 18. Middleton CWS, 19. Lopez CWS SS 22. DeJong STL Sox players listed: 22. Turner 23. Paxton 24. Pivetta 25. Duvall 37. Dalbec
  17. The Sox have 3 picks in the top 83: 14. 50. 83. But, we do have 6 in the top 133: 115. 4th rounder 132. Comp for Bogey 133. Comp for Nate The draft starts Sunday evening.
  18. In the AL, only OAK & KCR look far enough out of their division race and the WC3 slot. I'm not sure what they have to "sell off." OAK has already sold off many of their most expensive pieces. The CWS are 8.5 behind MIN, who leads the ALC with a 45-43 record (same as the last place Sox.) My guess is they will be sellers. Detroit (-6.0 ALC) could be, too. On the bubble: BOS, SEA, LAA and perhaps TOR, if they tailspin in July. In the NL, WSH and COL should be clear sellers. STL almost certainly will/should be. After that, it might take a bad 3-4 week period for these teams to drop out: PIT 40-47 (-8.5 NLC and -7.5 WC3) CHC 40-46 (-8.0 NLC and -7.0 WC3) SDP 41-46 (-8.5 NLW but -6.5 WC3) NYM 41-46 (-6.5 NLE and -6.5 WC3) My guess is 9 teams will be sellers: OAK COL WSH KCR STL PIT CHC CWS DET
  19. That was 2021.
  20. I disagreed with the role Barnes was give and for how long he stayed in that role, but our pen sucked, last year, and options were few and likely just as bad.
  21. It’s about 40 and 26. We can easily DFA someone other than Reyes, and then since he’s out of options, it becomes a 26 man issue. Like I said, I doubt they even discuss going to 12 pitchers until we are set at SS, and I’m not going to be upset if or when they DFA Reyes, but the SS position has been. Merry go round, and holding Reyes for 2-3 more weeks makes some sense. I see a logjam with so many LF/CF/1B/DHs on the 26, that I think we may trade Duvall. I’d say Kike, but he might not be traceable even if we pay his salary, and he can still play decent 2B, too. Our MI depth looks better with Reyes over Duvall. The problem is that Duvall is still capable of hitting very well and carrying the O for stretches.
  22. 12 of 15 teams are within 8.5 games of winning their division. We are one of the 3. 10 of 15 NL teams are in the same boat. The WC really helps keep teams like us in it, and gives several teams 2ways to make it to the dance, but MLB has really been more balanced than I can ever remember, at this point in a season.
  23. With all out SS issues, I'd try to find a way to keep Reyes. Story may not even play MI, when he eventually returns. Arroyo is an injury waiting to happen. Kike is a mess, but not bad at 2B or CF. We could trade Duvall and make Kike the back-up CF'er or possible Duran platoon. Here is an idea I doubt they even discuss: Keep Reyes until the trade deadline and go with 12 pitchers until August 1st. Our staff should be rested and we can strategically call up Houck, Whitlock, and Schreiber to replace Murphy and the like right after they pitch a game. We will have... 4 days off for the AS break play 6 straight days day off 7/20 play 3 day off 7/24 play 2 day off 7/27 play 6 straight through the deadline day off 8/3 (2 days after the deadline) August 4th: go back to 13 man staff and decide what to do with Reyes, Arroyo and others. (We may have traded someone like Duvall or Kike to make room for everyone.)
  24. We could also just say good bye to Mondesi.
