  1. There have been many successful pitchers who never had great strike out stuff but got batters to hit into outs. Wacha has had more than just a few good months here and there. Yes, he has had his share of bad months, too, but I’m not so sure all his recent success usa fluke.
  2. That is something that happens quite a bit with big FA pitcher signings. I felt the Price signing was necessary, and that he was about as safe a bet as you can get, which isn’t saying much. I knew the backend would screw us, but I was thinking maybe last 2-3 years- maybe 4, not 5-6 of 7!
  3. You mean the GM we signed from Tampa North by Northwest? (Agreed!)
  4. It’s the SLG that is lagging, but I’m fine leaving Casas at 1B, and maybe try a platoon, later, or when Duvall causes a squeeze
  5. I wanted Wacha and thought the deal he got was less than I expected. Some talked about the numbers that showed he was not as good as it appeared last year, but $7M a year? Even if you just get 2 good years out of him, it should be worth it. (Watch him hit the IL, tomorrow.)
  6. Just days ago, some might have been thinking Bloom should have signed him, not Kluber. It’s a crapshoot. I haven’t seen a FA pitcher since maybe Coke that looked like one I’d overpay to get, and even he ended up signing for more than the overpay I was thinking of. I still think trading for one is the best idea, and it just because of our well documented past success going that route. What would it have taken to get Castillo?
  7. I guess the thing to look at might be how much our attendance has dropped as compared to the league as a whole by percentage. My guess is the numbers are close
  8. Who is second best? Houck? It’s a good thing we added Whitlock and Wink in other ways.
  9. No internet here in most places!
  10. I’m in Yosemite for a few days, so you guys will have a much needed rest from my rants and rages! Talk amongst yourselves.
  11. So, in short, Bloom built a crappy team last year, and his big mistake this year was not bringing back the same team. Got it!
  12. You expect more than.750 from 1B, but I agree with Hugh. Casas should get a long look, but at this point, we may need to move some pieces to make Duvall fit in. I don’t see Dalbec replacing Casas, although he looks to be earning another look with his numbers on the farm, but if Casas gets demoted it would be for Turner to play near FT 1B. Yoshida DH. Duvall in LF.
  13. We’d be in a wild card slot if Houck and Whitlock had ERAs like last year or 2021. Even Pivetta at2021-2022 numbers would probably mean another win. Kluber has been a major reason our rotation has sucked but he is not alone. Ultimately, the blame gets placed on the GM. It’s the way it’s always been, but it’s hard for a GM to expect 5 major declines, all at once. On the flip side, we got more from Sale, Wink, Craw and Pax, so far, than most of us expected.
  14. To me, it seems like much less of those, this year than 2022, but yes, they need to stop. Very frustrating to watch!
  15. It seems like The guys who complain the most are the ones who never say who we should sign during the winter.
  16. At one point, I suggested a QO for Wacha but then realised he could be gotten for less.
  17. When you can’t even see the whole strike zone, there is a hole in the whole system. Robo umps, now!
  18. Great advice. I bet your son is a fine young man, now.
  19. We’ve done better with Rule 5, Whitlock, and trades, Wink, than many teams do but yes, Houck and Bello are just about it since Lester, unless you count Kopech.
  20. Had Bloom hit on one of his $10M/1 SPer deals, maybe this would not be a major debate issue. It hard for Me to bash Bloom for not signing any loner term pitching deals because nobody seemed even close to deserving of the deals they ended up getting. I’ve advocated for trading for a younger, more cost controlled SP’er, but farm building has been a higher priority than winning now since DDs last year in BOS. (Many think the going cheap started with Bloom, but it actually started when we let Kimbrell and Kelly go and did not replace them or trade any more prospects after 2028.) Since I love the idea of building the farm and depth up first, I’m torn between keeping the kids or biting the bullet and making a big splash trade like the Sale, Beckett, Schill or Pedro trades.
  21. I’m not so sure Duvall will our hit the notorious second hall hitter, Turner. It might end up a Duvall-Casas/Duran platoon with Casa or Duran sitting vs lefties and Turner playing FT.
  22. This is the million dollar question.
  23. He might, but Casa or Turner would have to sit or platoon.
  24. That part is on Cora. Is Reyes at SS such a mistake?
  25. Indeed. He got the big win today!
