  2. Before today's game, these were the fWARs: 2.6 Duran (2.1 BWAR) 2.2 Devers (2.6) 2.0 Dugo (2.8) 1.7 Turner (2.1) 1.5 Paxton (2.1) 1.3 Sale (1.0) 1.2 Bello (2.8) 1.2 Crawford (1.7) 1.2 Duvall (1.0) 1.2 Yoshida (1.6) 1.0 Jansen (1.1) 0.9 Martin (2.2) 0.9 Houck (0.7) 0.9 Casas (1.2) 0.8 Wong (1.7) 0.7 Pivetta (1.5) 0.7 Bernardino (1.2) 0.5 Whitlock (0.2) 0.5 McGuire (-0.2) 0.5 Refsnyder (0.2) 0.4 Winckoski (1.4) 0.4 Reyes (0.8) 0.3 Murphy (0.8) 0.3 Schreiber (0.6) AVG fWAR and bWAR (seems more realistic) 2.4 Duran 2.4 Devers 2.4 Dugo 2.1 Turner 2.0 Bello 1.8 Paxton 1.6 Martin 1.5 Crawford 1.4 Yoshida 1.3 Wong 1.2 Sale 1.1 Duvall 1.1 Jansen 1.1 Casas 1.1 Pivetta 1.0 Bernardino 0.9 Winckowski 0.8 Houck 0.6 Reyes 0.6 Murphy 0.5 Schreiber 0.4 Whitlock 0.4 Refsnyder 0.2 McGuire
  3. Turner is DA MAN! This is not a fluke, either.
  4. For years it mattered more than the Sox not making it.
  5. Glad you lost the "suspect" label. Abreu is a better fielder than Bobby Dee. 2023 Ks: 124 Bobby Dee 72 Wilyer Abreu RF is not the hitting position 1B needs to be.
  6. Thanks for doing the homework, I was too lazy to do myself. So, perhaps the best in 9-10 years. Maybe someday, we can say even longer. That April 2014 SP top 10 had: Betts, Bogey, JBJ Barnes, Workman Owens, Swihart, Ranaudo, Cecchini, Webster (Notable 10-20: Devers, Vaz, Margot) By SEP 2014, graduations mad eit this list: Devers, ERod, Margot Barnes Swihart, Owens, Johnson, Chavis, Ranaudo, Cecchini Notable 11-20: Kopech, TShaw)
  7. Jacko and other Yankee fans would be roasting Bloom, if he had a record like that.
  8. We lost 3 pen games from July 30th onwards. I'm pretty sure had we traded for 1 pitcher, he'd have had 2-3 starts, and we'd have 2-3 less pen games, depending on who we traded for and when. Minimum 2 games.

  10. Starting September 4th (not chronological order) BOS 7 BAL 5 TBR 4 NYY 3 TOR 3 TEX 3 CWS TOR 6 TBR 6 NYY 3 BOS 3 TEX 3 KCR 3 OAK HOU 6 KCR 3 BAL 3 TEX 3 SEA 3 ARI 3 SDP 3 OAK SEA 7 TEX 4 TBR 3 HOU 3 LAD 3 CIN 3 LAA 3 OAK
  11. BAL ended up beating SEA in 10. WC Race 71-49 TBR 68-51 HOU 66-54 TOR 63-54 SEA -1.5 (-4.0 HOU/-6.5 TBR & TEX) 62-56 BOS -3.0 (-1.5 SEA/ -5.5 HOU/ -8.0 TBR & TEX) 60-58 NYY -5.0 (-7.5 HOU)
  12. Agreed, just don't go to piggy-backing!
  13. Damn! Canzone homered with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth to tie BAL 3-3!
  14. It's not really "now or never," but it sure would help to gain a game or two in the next 3 days.
  15. Are you are assuming no pitcher goes on the IL in the next 7 weeks, and that no SP'er we traded for would have won any of 3 of the pen games we lost from July 30 on?
  16. Yes, that is why I said "may have lost." My guess is Lorenzen would likely have won one game.
  17. We still may have lost 1-2 games by not getting a SP'er before July 30th's pen game loss. 7/30 loss (Bernardino) 8/5 loss (Schreiber) 8/6 loss (Bernardino) Plus, the tax those pen games took on our pen. If we end up missing the playoffs by 1-3 games, this can still be a debate that goes on all winter long.
  18. ...and it rarely works.
  19. He's the exact fit with Richards and Kluber! He'll likely get $10M/1.
  20. You do make it sound like the overwhelming majority of people you come in contact with share your point of view. When I talk to fellow Sox fans or visit Maine, like I do every summer, I hear a more mixed set of views on Sox management and direction they seem to be going in. Maybe the "corners" we hang out on have vastly different demographics, or something. Anyway, I'd never feel like having many who agree with me means my position carries more weight.
  21. Isn't life wonderful, sometimes.
  22. To bad TOR won. HOU and NYY lost BAL and SEA are tied. Tex is losing 1-0. Current standings with those 2 games pending: 70-47 TEX (Leader of ALW) 71-49 TBR (WC1) 68-51 HOU (WC2 and -3.0 ALW) 66-54 TOR (WC3) 63-53 SEA -1.0 (tied BAL in 5th inning) 62-56 BOS -3.0 &-5.5 from HOU 60-58 NYY -5.0 59-60 LAA -6.5 57-62 CLE -8.5
  23. Scored 5 in the bottom of the 9th.
  24. The Marlins have nearly single-handedly put the Sox out of a playoff slot position. 3-0 vs Sox 0-3 vs BAL 1-2 vs TOR 1-1 vs NYY 0-3 vs TEX But, they just scored 4 in the bottom of the 9th to tie NYY and have Arraez at 3B, after his triple tied it up! GO MARLINS!
  25. Other top FA SP'er, this winter: Nola (30 yrs old) Snell (turns 31 this winter) Urias (just turned 27!) ERod (opt out) turns 31 in April Giolito (just turned 29) S Gray (will turn 34, this fall) Stroman (opt out) turns 31 in May Montgomery (turns 31 in December) Yoshinobu Yamamoto (will be 25y, next season) Kona Takahashi (will be 27) Shota Imanaga (will be 30) I'd be thrilled, if we signed Urias and YY to longer term deals. We could get both for the cost of Ohtani or Soto. I'd prefer ging after Soto more than Ohtani, but I doubt we even make offers on either one. Trading Dugo to save $6-7M hardly makes a difference when signing Soto, but if we can trade Dugo and _____ for a solid SP'er at a lower cost, maybe we could afford it.
