  1. It's not really "now or never," but it sure would help to gain a game or two in the next 3 days.
  2. Are you are assuming no pitcher goes on the IL in the next 7 weeks, and that no SP'er we traded for would have won any of 3 of the pen games we lost from July 30 on?
  3. Yes, that is why I said "may have lost." My guess is Lorenzen would likely have won one game.
  4. We still may have lost 1-2 games by not getting a SP'er before July 30th's pen game loss. 7/30 loss (Bernardino) 8/5 loss (Schreiber) 8/6 loss (Bernardino) Plus, the tax those pen games took on our pen. If we end up missing the playoffs by 1-3 games, this can still be a debate that goes on all winter long.
  5. ...and it rarely works.
  6. He's the exact fit with Richards and Kluber! He'll likely get $10M/1.
  7. You do make it sound like the overwhelming majority of people you come in contact with share your point of view. When I talk to fellow Sox fans or visit Maine, like I do every summer, I hear a more mixed set of views on Sox management and direction they seem to be going in. Maybe the "corners" we hang out on have vastly different demographics, or something. Anyway, I'd never feel like having many who agree with me means my position carries more weight.
  8. Isn't life wonderful, sometimes.
  9. To bad TOR won. HOU and NYY lost BAL and SEA are tied. Tex is losing 1-0. Current standings with those 2 games pending: 70-47 TEX (Leader of ALW) 71-49 TBR (WC1) 68-51 HOU (WC2 and -3.0 ALW) 66-54 TOR (WC3) 63-53 SEA -1.0 (tied BAL in 5th inning) 62-56 BOS -3.0 &-5.5 from HOU 60-58 NYY -5.0 59-60 LAA -6.5 57-62 CLE -8.5
  10. Scored 5 in the bottom of the 9th.
  11. The Marlins have nearly single-handedly put the Sox out of a playoff slot position. 3-0 vs Sox 0-3 vs BAL 1-2 vs TOR 1-1 vs NYY 0-3 vs TEX But, they just scored 4 in the bottom of the 9th to tie NYY and have Arraez at 3B, after his triple tied it up! GO MARLINS!
  12. Other top FA SP'er, this winter: Nola (30 yrs old) Snell (turns 31 this winter) Urias (just turned 27!) ERod (opt out) turns 31 in April Giolito (just turned 29) S Gray (will turn 34, this fall) Stroman (opt out) turns 31 in May Montgomery (turns 31 in December) Yoshinobu Yamamoto (will be 25y, next season) Kona Takahashi (will be 27) Shota Imanaga (will be 30) I'd be thrilled, if we signed Urias and YY to longer term deals. We could get both for the cost of Ohtani or Soto. I'd prefer ging after Soto more than Ohtani, but I doubt we even make offers on either one. Trading Dugo to save $6-7M hardly makes a difference when signing Soto, but if we can trade Dugo and _____ for a solid SP'er at a lower cost, maybe we could afford it.
  13. I think Pivetta will be a bargain at his arb salary. I'm not sure Dugo would be. I would not pay Ohtani even $450M/12.
  14. My God! Abreu might be ML ready, right now! 3 HRs (18th, 19th, 20th) His OPS jumped to .901 Dalbec 2-4 with 2 Hrs (29th and 30th) & BB and a 1.011 OPS Scott 2-5 with 10th HR & 2B(.999 OPS) Valdez 1-3 w 2B and 2BB (.972) POR lost in 10 (4-3) Wikelman 5.2IP, 7H, 2ER, 1BB, 8K (2.03 ERA) Time to move to AAA? Guerrero 2IP, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 3K Bonaci & Lugo 2-4
  15. and if we let Sale go after '24, we'll have his money added to the pot.
  16. One question about Yoshida was his ability to handle a 162 game season. Yes, the last 7 weeks will be meaningful, but to me, not the be all- end all. If he ends up over .800, I think that's pretty good. Over .825 would be good. Near or over .850 would be very good.

  18. If we are allowed to go over by $19.9M, that number could be close to $80M! To me, it will be time to start thinking quality over quantity. I hope we look to sign 2-3 major FAs and maybe 1-2 decent depth FAs. Personally, I'd consider one major prospect for a controllable pitcher as well, but I doubt JH and Co. agree on that.) $60M $25M SP 1/2 $20M SP 2/3 $10M Middle IF $5M depth $80M $35M SP1 $25M SP2 $15M Middle IF $5M depth
  19. I'm fine with Houck starting over Crawford, as long as Cora uses a quick hook after 50 pitches or not allowing a batter to face him 3 times in a game. We may not want to burn out Crawford, either. adding him back to the pen will give us 3 long men that can help out, when starters get pulled somewhat early. Whitlock Crawford Murphy
  20. I've always felt the closest swing comp to Devers is the great Vlad, although Vlad is/was better. My only point is that their plate approach seems very similar, to me. Vlad aged well: 1.003 Ages 27-29 .947 Ages 30-32 .845 Ages 33-35 .935 for 9 years starting at age 27. Maybe I'm being more hopeful than pragmatic. I expected Devers to improve, this year, as his current age is peak prime, so maybe I'll be wrong.
  21. Many pointed out he'd be an expensive DH, and that may be correct, but I'm glad we have Yoshida locked up for years.
  22. Perhaps, but I was talking only about his swing.
  23. We may need 3 SP'ers, if we decide to keep Whitlock, Houck & Crawford in the pen.
  24. Fair enough, but I sometimes feel some view me as the leader of the Bloom Apologist Club.
  25. I meant Pivetta, and just edited that post. Sorry.
