  1. He's no expert, but I agree on this. I just think the blame is often placed on the wrong guy. I also don't think letting Betts goes outweighs the good JH & Co. have done for the Sox in 2 decades. The same way I think the 3 great years under DD's reign outweigh the sacrifices we paid after he left.
  2. Henry and the others in the ownership can make more money by cutting costs. The money differential should matter less to them than to Mookie.
  3. I'm happy we are building towards a sustainable influx of farm help. I'm not happy about Henry lining his pockets with gold, while we could b e more competitive along the way, but have really enjoyed watching this team play. We've been in a lot of games that we lost, and yes, that is a mark of mediocrity, but it was exciting for me. There were a lot of good things that happened, this year, and to me, we improved at SP, RP, C, 1B, LF, CF, RF and DH. We stayed about the same at 3B and got worse at SS and 2B, in part because of Story's injury. Yes, you heard me right. Our rotation is better in 2023 than 2022. ERA- 102 in 2023 107 in 2022 SIERA 4.13 in 2023 4.14 in 2024 xFIP- 96 in 2023 103 in 2022 WHIP 1.29 in 2023 1.35 in 2022 K-BB% 16.3% in 2023 13.3% in 2022 Okay, call it even. Better at 7 positions The same at 2. Worse at 2. Farm improved. Budget ready for a splurge.
  4. Like the Dodgers, the Astros are a damn good team, despite injuries and a struggling rotation.[ Getting to a point where we need to sweep them to have a good chance at making the playoffs or 2 of 3 to have a chance in hell, was not a good happening. Winning, today or any other day from the past would have helped. We are running out of time, and can't rely on other teams to lose. That is why these head-to-head series have to be won, if not swept./B]
  5. It looks like we will lose ground to most of the teams we need to be gaining on. It might take a HOU sweep to get us back into this thing.
  6. I can understand that. I have seen a lot to enjoy and give me hope going forward. I haven't felt this way since it became apparent the 2019 team was not going anywhere. Sure, 2021 offered a brief moment of joy and hope, but the extended future has not looked this good in a long time. I know that doesn't matter to many or most fans. So be it.
  7. Yes, that is what I meant, when I said "sounds all too familiar." The Yanks will not tear it all down- just like the Sox don't either. Like us, they will drag out the rebuild and call it something else.
  8. That can't have been the first time he was asked that.
  9. 3-4 of our pitchers were not available do to use in the last game or two.
  10. It's been a fun team to watch, unless you go into each game with a gripe on your mind.
  11. Pitching and hitting do matter more than defense, but defense has cost us many games. I think it's safe to say it's between 10 and 20. The fact that we won more games with Kike playing does not mean many of the losses were on him, while few of the wins were because of something he did. Many games we have lost on defensive mistakes not called errors. I'm not sure why you seem to want to deny that happening way too often and by enough times over the norm to put us in a playoff slot, right now. Again, saying we should trade someone does not mean I dislike Dugo or value him less than you do. I've said he is one of our best 2 defensive OF'ers, His bat has been a plus. His fWAR reflects that, but it also means other GMs will give us something of value in retrun- perhaps at a position of greater need, where we don't have a Rafaela and Abreu pounding on the door.
  12. When you start off with a 40 man roster with 20 holes and a massive budget cut, the dumpster bin is your "hood." Each year, the winter budget grew a little bit, and there were less and less holes to fil, but even last winter's significant spending spree had to be used on too many slots to avoid not filling some with dumpster dives. Speading out the money, like $10M/1 for a SP'er doesn't work, either.
  13. Looks like Murphy's earlier play was a mirage.
  14. They should not will. Go ahead and bring back Stanton, LeMahieu, Rizzo, Torres, Kahlne, Trivino and the pitchers who dropped off, this year. Payoff the $8M Donaldson buy out. Spend on the next Rodon. Good luck.
  15. Dalbec is 4 for 4 with a homer, triple and 2 singles. (.971) Rafaela is 1-4 with a homer and BB. (.993) Chang is 2-4 w HR and BB (.942) Scott is 1-3 w 2BB (.948) Kavadas cleared the bases with a 2B. 1-3 w BB. Walter had a good day. 7IP, 5H, 1ER, 1BB, 6K WOO up 12-1 in the 8th. POR won game one 5-1 Wikelman 5IP, 2H, 1ER, 2BB, 6K Yorke 2-4 Sikes homered Bonaci & Meidroth 1-3 w BB Rosier 1-1 w BB & HBP GRE up early as Campbell is 2 for 2.
  16. Deep hole to dig out of, but the bats need to wake up.
  17. My bad. Thanks for pointing this out.
  18. We need innings from Houck, today, but that third time through the line-up issue looms large over the team's head. Let's see, if he can start turning those bad numbers towards the right direction.
  19. Agreed, but thinking Mookie turned down $300M did make him seem a bit selfish, to some, and goes against the idea that he really wanted to stay in Boston. He ended up getting close to that in LA. Had he came right out, long ago, and said the Sox never offered that, the narrative would have shifted, IMO.
  20. I don't think we should extend Dugo, unless he takes a friendly deal, and why should he? I agree: don't dick around, just trade him. Not hand him away. We should get some real value back.
  21. It's a good point, but eventually a hot player starts slumping, and then you give the other guy his chance. I know, it's hard to bench a $90M guy for a rookie, but I was just talking about one game, and at some point, Yoshida could have been used as a PH'er.
  22. True, but you know he heard about the story of that $300M offer, long ago, and it put him in a somewhat bad light for years.
  23. Yet, we lost so many fan faves like Bogey, JD and Nate. It's amazing how even a mildly winning season can change a fan's outlook.
  24. He failed to run out grounders and showed up late to the park. How is that something you don't question?
