  1. Agreed. If I had know about just this Sale deal, forget about the others, I'd have been for firing Bloom back then. I'm still not 100% sure it is true, but not trading him and his salary for just a bag of used balls would have been an unforgivable mistake, IMO.
  2. Every one is higher than 30, and no I don't always pick the higher one. I even said "5 to 12" as that is the range I know of. BTW, you never answer my questions. Would you prefer we have higher rankings or lower one? Still waiting on this past unanswered question: Are you watching baseball again, because it is no longer "watered down" or because Bloom is no longer the GM, or for some other reason?
  3. Maybe, someday, your fixation with Bloom will wilt and wither on the vine.
  4. Bloom left a solid core of everyday players and a nice pen. (I'd put Duran in LF, Rafaela in CF and Abreu in RF, but that is just me. The list of positional players on the farm looks impressive, too. Not all will work out, but we should have enough depth at everyday positions to fill a line-up out, nicely. The D should improve without adding anyone. The O may get worse without JT and Duvall, but with a healthy Story and additions like Rafaela, Abreu and full seasons from Urias and Reyes, maybe we can stay about the same. (We could also bring back Duvall or add some other big RH'd bat.) It's the rotation that is killing our future hopes.
  5. As it turned out, keeping Devers, Houck, Duran, Casas, Bello, Rafaela and a few others over Moncada, Kopech, margot, Espinoza and 15 or more others, looks stunningly good. It took us a few years to know it, for sure, and the jury is still out on some of his prospects off to a nice start, and it will take years to give Bloom a final grade on his arm (and foundation left.)
  6. You keep saying that, and we know your position on "suspects." I think, even you, realize a farm has a better chance at helping the big club win, when it is ranked 5-12 than 24-30th. Everything in baseball is speculative- even vets. You do what you can to improve the team on paper and then hope it "TRANSLATES" to a winning bg league club. Bloom failed miserably at building winning teams, the last 2 years. He's gone for not doing so. He seems to have left a decent foundation for a 26 man roster (minus 3 major pitchers) and 40 man roster (minus a big RH'd bat and a solid LH'd RP.) He seems to have left a much better farm than when he took over. Yes, lowly ranked farms can still produces guys like Bello, Houck, Duran & Casas, but that is rare, and even then, those 4 were the only real significant farm infusions from the summer of 2017 (Devers) to today, which is over 7 years. Do you feel better having a strong arm on paper or a weaker one?
  7. I have more than 3 guys ahead of Dalbec on my to DFA list. 1. Ort 2. Gillaspie 3. Garza 4. Jacques 5. Weiss 6. Llovera 7. Dalbec We will need to DFA or trade 3 guys to make room for the three 60 Day IL players being added back. Duran ZKelly WMills We might trade someone like Mata, Joely, Mills, Kelly, Walter, Murphy or Robertson to make room for the 4-7 Rule 5 additions we'll need to add by December. I don't see a major roster squeeze with there being 7-10 guys we can DFA or trade and barely miss them.
  8. Looks like Devers has locked up the team OPS leader for 2023. Devers is now at .876 (so much for the late season swoon.) Casas is out (.856) Duvall is too far away (.843) Good to see some of the kids having a nice season: .945 Abreu .886 Rafaela .856 Casas .828 Duran .709 EValdez .704 Wong
  9. They made an interesting comment about Bloom seemingly feeling confident in keeping his job when he failed to make any trades at teh deadline to try and save his job- assuming he knew he might lose it based on the 2023 results.
  10. It will be interesting to see how the Braves and Astros do, after all their studs reach free agency. They both have histories of letting some big names go. If the pipeline is no longer top notch, and it seems like they are not, we should see them reach a point where they have to start from scratch, again. The Astros have been trading prospects to fill some slots, even rentals like Vaz, and this should hasten that breaking point. (They probably wish they had Wilyer Abreu, right now.)
  11. They seem to think Cora might get the GM role, or some sort of upper management role. They also like Eddie Romero.
  12. I do, too. It's no lock any given guy from the Rays is better.
  13. So, all the people he "added" were from elsewhere?
  14. I've been curious about what changes Bloom made to the "pipeline." I often wondered, if he brought any Rays personnel into the fold. Much has been said about the lack of pitchers drafted, highly or given major bonuses as IFAs, but taking everyday players has a much higher rate of return. However, the theory should go on to say, you trade some of them for better known pitchers who have already shown they can pitch well. That has been the missing piece I have been waiting for since the Nate deadline trade in 2018. (No, Pivetta does not rise to that level.)
  15. That's why I think a trade is the way we get one. Then, we'll sign sign someone like Gray, who won't get 6 or 7 years. My hopes are we outbid everyone for the youngest guy on the market: Yamamoto and then sign someone like Gray. Trade for a number 4, so we don't need to give up much: maybe Dugo & Drohan. Bring Duvall back and sign a legit LH'd RP... Yamamoto Gray Bello Trade Crawford or Pivetta Jansen Martin Houck Whitlock Crawford or Pivetta Schreiber Winckowski LH'd RP FA C Wong & McGuire 1B Casas 2B Urias & Reyes SS Story 3B Devers LF Duran & Refsnyder CF Rafaela & Duvall RF Duvall & Abreu DH Yoshida Since Rafaela can back up SS and 2B, Urais SS and 3B and Reyes SS and 3B, I think our IF depth is okay, although who backs up 1B? Duvall? Devers?
  16. Turner and Duvall are FAs. after this year. No moves needed.
  17. I didn't realize he was "that" hurt. Could be Bobby Dee's last days in a Sox uniform, although we have very little minor league depth at 1B that is close to the bigs- Jordan? Kavadas? Nope!
  18. I just said the new GM might have a different idea. I'm all for Story at SS and Urias and Reyes at 2B. If you remember, I was for Story at SS and moving Bogey to 2B, until I found out Story had a bum arm that would eventually need surgery. Story is one of MLB best defensive SS. I don't think the next GM would want to mess with that. If he does, he'll already bo off on the wrong foot, IMO.
  19. Duran is pre-arb, next year. He has 4 years of control to 1 for Dugo.
  20. If we get that big bat, we won't need Turner and Duvall, plus all 3 would cost too much and take away from spending on pitching.
  21. POR won 24-2! Dobbins went 4 allowing 1 run: 0BB and 8Ks. The O walked 13 times, including 4 by Meidroth and 3 by Sikes and Binelas. Anthony 3-4 Erro 4-5 and 5 RBI Esplin 4-6 w HR and 7RBI Dearden 3-5 WOO won 11-5 as Drohan lasted 0.2 IP (3 ER) Kavadas 2-3 with HR, 5RBI and a BB Sogard 3-5 w HR EValdez & Hernandez 2-4 DHam 1-4 w BB and 57th SB.
  22. No. I'm asking when it's about wins and when its okay to make excuses.
  23. He's been okay in his second stint as a starter, this year, too. He went 6.1, today with just 2 ER. SP and first 2 RP outings to start 2023: 6.15 ERA (5.47 FIP) Next 15 games as RP only: 1.51 (2.42) Last 10 games, before today (5 GS/5 RP) 5.44 ERA (4.59) 4.69 ERA, if you add today and make it his last 11 games. His last 6 GS 7.1 3 ER 5H 0BB 10K 5.0 2 ER 4H 2BB 8K 4.1 4 ER 5H 3BB 7K 4.2 3 ER 7H 2BB 5K 5.1 3 ER 4H 1BB 10K 6.1 2 ER 4H 0BB 6K Add last RP games of 3 or more IP 4.0 1 2 2 6 5.0 2 4 1 8 6.0 0 0 2 13 5.0 0 3 1 5 4.0 4 6 2 2 5.0 2 3 1 8 3.0 1 2 0 5 These are all his long outins since the start of July. He does better in long relief, but he's been okay as a SP'er, too.
  24. Not a bad idea, but then trade Jansen?
