  1. You'd think with a more rigorous academic admissions policy than most top teams, we'd suffer in the area of line players, not the brain-orientated QB position, right?
  2. He sure seemed to mature, quickly. Maybe the Sox "pitching development" has improved, recently.
  3. Thanks for posting this. I knew he answered that Q, before.
  4. Or, it says a lot about Abreu's progression. No Abreu, and Yoshi plays more, and maybe he snaps out of this slump.
  5. Encouraging QB play. That is the key.
  6. Yup. We are not benching Dugo, Duvall, Casas or Turner, no matter what arm pitcher is starting.
  7. Lots of current players played fo each other, too.
  8. There are some signs our farm is doing better with pitching. We went a long time from Lester and Buch to Bello. (Yes, we traded Kopech and Houck might end up okay, but in the last 2-3 years, we've seen some decent, yet not great, pitching called up: Houck Whitlock Crawford Winckowsi Bello It's hard to know how well the next guys do. Murphy and Walter have been Meh, and Mata got hurt again, but we do have some promising pitchers on the farm, now.
  9. Yup, and that kills the FIP and ERA.
  10. I think this may be as simple as no "formal offer" was made, but possibly the number was floated and turned down, so no formal offer was needed. Like I said, who knows?
  11. Bonaci may be moved, too.
  12. I do see the value of FIP, but I do think some pitchers are able to continually defy that stat and keep getting guys out and having a better ERA. With the s***** D behind Bello, you'd think having a lower FIP would hurt him, but somehow he pulled it off. Of course, he has not yet shown he can "continually" do it.
  13. Yes. Most of the "SSs" drafted have already been moved off SS, as we said they would. DHam is the ML ready depth, and he is doubtful as a contributor, except for his base-stealing skills and occasional power. Chang is still in the system but is not a prospects. Reyes and urias will be depth on the ML roster. Mayer/Bonaci are at AA SS and Paulino is at A+. Ravelo is at A- and Zanetello at FCL. Cespedes and Arias are at DSL and offer big promise. Ferguson is a long shot. For 2024, SPs suggests DHam will be ML depth, Sogard at AAA, Mayer still at AA, Romero at A+ (off the IL), Zanetell at A-, Cespedes at FCL with Arias to 2B at FCL and Ruiz and Linares at DSL SS.
  14. Exactly, and maybe they made way less money by letting Betts go than they saved by not paying him (and other.) The point I was trying to make is that these decisions do affect what JH (and others) makes or does not make.
  15. Limiting your profits by spending more means you make less money.
  16. I'm surprised Houck leads all starters.
  17. I totally agree. Maybe they are waiting until they think "Now is the time," but I ask "How soon is now?"
  18. They need to see major improvement at 5-6 slots in the batting order and 3-5 on the staff. That's a lot of free agent signings all needing to work.
  19. OPS Against Leaders RP .573 Martin .646 Bernardino .657 Jansen .724 Scheiber .750 Llovera .755 Wink RP/SP .675 Crawford .720 Pivetta .724 Murphy (before today) .739 Walter .856 Whitlock SP .697 Houck .721 Sale .732 Paxton .742 Bello
  20. Houck and Whitlock are tied, IMO. Had they just been healthy and at 4.25, we'd not have seen all the scrubs
  21. About Lowell coming after him. That was the second part.
  22. You are kidding, right?
  23. They are pitching like crap- no doubt. No way we can win without the rotation coming around.
  24. Face it. We are not going to spend like the Mets or Padres, no matter how much you hope we do. We all agree: JH can, if he wants, but he doesn't and won't, so building a farm is the best way to try and win. It's not like JH is a bottom spender. We should be able to win with a good farm and being 8th to 12th in spending. It might not be 4 times in 20 years.
  25. Our farm is not like the O's, who took years of sucking to get that good, but to see just Mayer and not Anthony, Teel, Bleis, Rafaela and others is not looking hard enough.
