  1. I wasn't downplaying Troy, but Bloom has been here for 4 years, so trying to find a waiver guy to match a 7 yr bWAR is not a fair comp. If Schreiber continues, as is, he could pass Troy after 7 yrs.
  2. Troy was with the Sox for 7 yrs. Schreiber 3.6 bWAR is 2.1 yrs. Bernardino 1.2 in 1/2 yr. Ref 1.3 in 2 yrs. Arroyo 2.2 in 3.5 yrs (I might be missing someone.)
  3. Hard to know for sure if Dan D could have built a winner under JH. Theo was awesome.
  4. Sustain a 3-4 year window? Maybe, it means between windows, we don't finish in last place 3 out of 4 years? Because, we still keep a steady flow of maturing prospects?
  5. Maybe. I think he'd prefer a $150M/6 guy or two $110M/5 guys, though.
  6. Yes, for sure.
  7. Trades. Lackey and Price were really the only two major FA attempts Trades: Pedro (pre-JH) Schilling Beckett Sale Porcello (not really an ace) It has worked, for us, Compare that list to our homegrown aces since the late 90's: Lester
  8. It seems to be what the Sox history has been. Build up, add an ace, win a ring, reset, rinse and repeat.
  9. I guess that is worse than being choked.
  10. I like him, a lot, too. I knew I was forgetting someone I liked.
  11. I do, too, but I like Houck, Whitlock and Crawford more for pen duty than Pivetta. He seems to give more inning, even if maybe not as good as others.
  12. The 5th starter will be Pivetta.
  13. I forgot to put Yamamoto on the list.
  14. Like I said, some of my numbers are probably way off. You are right: he should get more money and the same or more years from some dumb GM like Cashman.
  15. GMs do often pay a lot more based on most recent numbers, but I do think they may be cautious with Snell. 4.1 BB/9 career and 5.1 in 2023. 1.25 WHIP career and 1.26 in 2023. Yes, that shiny 2.52 ERA screams of greatness, as did his league leading 1.89 ERA way back in 2018, but in between, his numbers were not close to Cy Young, and the sample size is his 4 more recent seasons prior to 2023: 3.85 ERA, but only a 104 ERA+ 1.257 WHIP 3.9 BB/9 85 GS out of a possible 114 414 IP out of maybe 660 at a 200 IP/yr rate. I want this guy, but it's hard to know what GM are going to offer, this winter. Someone will likely offer way more than Bloom does.
  16. Probably, but I did give him 6 years. He might get $26M x 4 or 5.
  17. A bit morbid.
  18. I think all of us are very concerned that Yoshida may underperform his contract, especially since we usually expect the best to be years 1, 2 and 3. The word was, our scouts we having wet dreams over this guy for years and years. I guess, at some point, you have to trust your scouts or replace them. Ultimately, it seems it was Bloom who made the final call on Yoshi and Story. Both still have several years left to make good or salvage what they have started out producing, but it's really too early to make the call on Yoshi. I'm not sure my theory is correct, but if the team's plan was to fill up the foundation of everyday players, and then add SP'ers right before "the window opens," then maybe we can see why the moves are not as "odd" as it seems.
  19. Bloom "let leave" is a loaded phrase. Betts: not Bloom's doing or idea. Schwarber: a rental who got overpaid by PHI. JD: his time had come, despite this year's resurgence and time on the IL. Bogey: his HR power seems to be sapped and has been for 3 years. Not replacing them is a legit point, but Turner & Duvall have done well. Let's see who we have in 2024: Urias, Rafaela & Abreu? Upticks from Casas, Devers & Story? Anyway, without adding 3 solid pitchers, it might not matter how many HRs we hit.
  20. I'd say 3B for Mayer and a HBP for Jordan.
  21. Might be able to do that, if JH sets the second line as the limit. If I'm spending $72M, it's not on a lefty bat. $22M Gray $22M Snell $18M Montgomery $10M Duvall
  22. We can argue for months about my numbers being wrong, but play along... Let's say JH allows $50M AAV to be spent, this winter, I suppose it could be $70M, if he allows us to spend up to the second line, but let's go with $50M AAV: you be the GM: $30M x 2 Kershaw $25M x 7 Nola $25M x 1 Morton $25M x 6 Bellinger (LHB) $22M x 6 Snell $22M x 4 Gray $20M x 6 ERod $20M x 4 Stroman $20M x 5 Teoscar Hern $18M x 6 Montgomery $16M x 5 J Hader $16M x 4 Wacha $16M x 4 Giolito $15M x 5 Chapman (3B) $15M x 2 A Cobb $15M x 2 L Lynn $14M x 3 Conforto $13M x 2 Kepler $12M x 3 B Keller $12M x 2 Renfroe $12M x 2 J Turner $12M x 2 K Gibson, Stripling, J Flaherty $10M x 2 Paxton, Lorenzen, Cleninger, Heany, S Lugo $10M x 3 Duvall, Michael Taylor $10M x 1 Greinke, Severino, Maeda, M Perez $8M x 2 R Grossman I probably missed a few and got some numbers way off.
  23. Cora can set a new standard.
  24. Just "rest" him until 2025.
