  1. I never trust a 1 run lead. We needed more runs anyhow. 6 1/3 from Pom and only 1 run given up, that's not bad.
  2. no it's the same game.
  3. Ahh, it's nice to see we're not the only team that f***s up on the basepaths. My man was out by an 18-wheeler
  4. That too. I guess I'd include prospects under Last dime, since that's about where we are on that front as well. For a team trying to drop salary, I'm trying to figure out how significant 1/3 is for them, and how many 1/3rds are they dropping... across players? Being there are a lot of close races this year again, I don't think we'll find out who'll be sellers until the last minute. I guess my main question is what's our biggest need? Or do we even know yet? If ERod comes back like he hasn't missed a beat, then we may not need an additional SP. If Smith comes back and doesn't miss a beat, we may not need to go after a BP upgrade. If we bring up Devers and he looks promising/adequate we may not need a 3B. A big bat in the order would be nice, and if that big bat can play 3B (average defense) that would be ideal. That would plug 2 holes at the same time.
  5. My big concern, as I suspect for many here, is if our starters can eat more innings as to not wear out our pretty decent BP over the 2nd half. Going forward towards the trade deadline, I am curious to see what the Sox spend their last dime on... An upgrade at 3B defensively & offensively, or another BP piece?... or maybe even starter depth? What does everyone here think they'll wind-up trying to upgrade?
  6. I really hate Thornburgh right now.
  7. Mookie's last 7 games: AB R HR RBI SB Avg OPS 13/30 6 2 4 2 .433 1.361 lol ...What more does he HAVE to do? They could move him down in the order to create more RBI chances, which some of us have been calling for... for two months now.
  8. Price is a work in progress right now. One inning he looks ace-like, the next inning he has trouble with his command. I hope he can put it all together at some point soon. E-Rod's injury doesn't seem too serious (we've heard this before I know) but maybe it will wind-up being a good thing that he can rest for a while because we're definitely going to need his arm for the 2nd half. Porcello needs to figure out his Sinker, that's his lone homework assignment... it's just one pitch but it's his best one. I'd hate to think this is insurmountable for him. He's figured it out before. It's frustrating because his problems stem from just one pitch, one adjustment or tweak. He fixes that, he's golden. Sale is Sale. Pom is Pom.
  9. Sale is the only SP we have that works quickly. Price works painfully slow coming back from the dl.
  10. Yah, I'm not doing that either. lol
  11. Betts followed a 4-5 game with an 0-6 because they stayed away from hm and gave him barley anything to hit. He HAS to try and pull the ball if they constantly pitch him outside or it's just a foul ball. He's trying to make lemonade out there with what they give him after he destroys them the game before. Last 7 games Betts is batting .310 w/ a .911 OPS. In other words, he's fine.
  12. Agreed. The best way to shut the media up is to play well.
  13. I view Betts as our #1 RBI guy, out of everyone. Does he have other fine traits? Sure. But I'm willing to bet he's been our best pure hitter for a while now, across these last few seasons. So, I agree, Lead-off makes no sense, considering the rest of our lineup... on THIS particular team. 2 out of 5 PAs every game he has zero chance at an rbi because he's leading off the inning. The other 2-3 chances, he doesn't have a great chance at rbi either, with the bottom of the order right before him. This just doesn't compute with me. This needs to change and soon.
  14. It'd be really nice if the Sox won this one. win the series at NY. The Yankee fans I know are starting to get obnoxious again (they took some years off watching I would guess). Win this one for me you underachieving asshats. Go Sox!!!
  15. I thought it was just a way to get his bat in the line-up. I don't think it was a panic move at all.
  16. I agree that XB would be fine at lead-off, and that you don't necessarily have to be a great base stealer to lead-off, just a good, smart base-runner. OBP is king right here.
  17. Well, in my opinion, Mookie shouldn't be either lead-off or clean-up. 2nd or 3rd, but mostly 3rd is where he should be batting. I agree though that Mookie could be doing better and I think it's just a matter of time. But we're probably just wasting his talents if he stays at lead-off when that happens. I'm not gonna lie, and I've said this before... but I absolutely hate Farrell's lineups. You may not think this matters, but I f***ing DO. You can't just shuffle the stats after the fact and think that that's what would've happened anyway. Not when Wins and Losses are on the line.
  18. It's because he fell in love with his mediocre FB ( like in '15) again and stopped throwing his Sinker when he needs to throw his Sinker. Not only that, but he's seemed to replace the Sinker with a s***** Cutter that seems to stay in most hitters' wheelhouses at the most inopportune times. Porcello only has one "Out-Pitch" and it's not his FB. It's his Sinker, and I've yet to see him throw it in an important situation this season. Last year he relied on his Sinker and he won the f***ing CY Young! His Curve is fine if he's exhibiting some command of it and/or if it fools the batter, if not it's simply a ball (like any pitcher really). All in all, I think it's his pitch selection and not going to his Sinker when he needs to. He should be fine if he does that, but it's a question of if not when with him because he seems to be really stubborn and slow to change what he's doing wrong. I'm a bit surprised and disappointed the coaching staff hasn't figured this s*** out yet as well.
  19. I never expected Beni to not have any hiccups.
  20. Exactly. Anyone who's been remotely paying attention to Devers knows there has always been that slight chance he could better suited as a 1B over time. Slight because he's improved at 3B defense so much it's barely an opinion anymore. This sounds like old data to me. And as far as his size? Size doesn't really play up as much at 3B than it does at SS or 2B, if ever. He'll be 21 in late Oct., 6'-0" 195lbs... I don't see him having another growth spurt. I don't see any problem with being 6ft, 200lbs. That height to weight ratio is pretty f***ing average in sports. Maybe a bit below average. Is that ONE evaluator saying he's too small to play 3B?
  21. The launch angle part was interesting. I don't get the Montero-Devers comparison at all though.
  22. Good game thread ppl. A little too rapey for my taste but you kept your collective heads on a swivel and we f***in' won. I'm so happy with the outcome take tomorrow off.
  23. Blaine IS a horrible name. Sounds like a Jeremy Piven character circa 1988.
  24. The "ace" of THEIR staff... that's not saying much
