    Now a slider in the geometric center of the zone for a double off the wall. And a fastball in the center. That last one is completely on Farrell. By leaving Porcello in he made it awfully difficult to get the Sox back into the game. Going into the 6th, the Sox were just 2 down with the Jays bullpen sure to come in in the 7th if not sooner. Farrell absolutely needed to keep it close and should have seen what Porcello was doing--throwing the ball in the middle of the zone. Heck, he has the better bullpen, why not use the darn thing?

    How can Porcello do that--throw a changeup right in the middle of the zone? Answer: he can't help himself.

    Happ a little lucky that Travis popped up a fast ball right down the middle. Sox are 1 for 8 with RISP. Or try this. Betts leads off with a double and our 3, 4th, and 5th batters all screw the pooch, with Beni easily being the worst.

    I have my doubts about how smart a hitter HanRam is. His third at bat against Happ, he gets 2 sliders low, and decides to swing at the 2d one. However, he did drive the 3d to right to move Betts--too late of course. Benintendi was supposed to do that and failed miserably.

    Happ threw 7 straight fastballs (2 seam and 4 seam) and all low in the zone. credit to mookie for waiting for the one he could hit. Nice double. Then a fat fastball to Beni which he should have killed by popped to 3b. Terrible.

    OK, nice inning. could go 6, but still not a quality start. One would hope that, should the Sox stay close, they have a real shot at winning this against the Jays bullpen. It worked in all three games at Toronto when all 3 of their starters held us to 1 run (apiece).

    If only Porcello would remember how easy that was to get Bautista out. Just don't throw that darn fastball up. Vazquez is at fault too, of course.

    Smoak could play for us. He had 5 straight sliders or curves and couldn't do jack with them. That Porcello, feeling bad, gave him a fat fastball. caught, fortunately.

    Nunez swung at the same pitch Travis doubled on and I think Nunez got his single on--fast ball low, but well inside in the zone and in the middle. But a weak ground out. This inning was too easy for Happ because Young and Vazquez made it easy.

    When you walk Marrero on 5 pitches, you are having an off night, period.

    Vazquez deserved that called 3d strike. He could not hit 3 straight fast balls in the middle of the zone. Get the bum out of there.

    Terrible at bat by Young. On a 2-1 count he swings at a fast ball way outside against a pitcher who isn't really that sharp tonight.

    Yes he is, but so far in the 4th he is getting away with it.

    I sometimes read the close captions and the announcers are saying Bogie's wrist (and hand?) are still not right and won't be this season. If his defense is suspect (it is), and his hitting is in the pits, why is he playing in September when other options are available?

    Why is Porcello now going back up in the zone? the Jays feast on that stuff.

    We have 3 hits so far--2 by Travis and the big one by Nunez. Happ has only 2 K's to go wit the 2 BB's, but he does not need K's to get our guys out. the good news is he has throw 65 pitches in 3 innings.

    That's two by Travis, both opposite field. You won't catch Betts doing that these days. Bogie is so bad. That was his pitch, a 2 seamer near the middle, and he barely got it for an easy grounder.

    Not getting out of hand at all. They were out of hand from the get go and I hate them. That's why I keep the sound off. Plus I honestly don't think any of those commentators have much in the way of great insights, nor or they paid to have them. Nice voice, nice manner, ability to convey real interest in the game, basic grasp of baseball terms. The stats guy in the booth is where the brains are.

    That dinger came off a pretty good by Porcello, his first one up in the zone against Bautista. It's possible the book the Sox have on Bautista is wrong.

    Ump missed a great strike by Porcello but then called one a little outside.

    We've now seen 47 pitches by Happ, and I have not see another bad call. In fact, the ump has been pretty good so far. I also think he has been fair to Porcello.

    Unfortunately, Marrero and Betts both took my advice and swung at the first pitch for easy outs.

    Brilliant swinging bunt by Vazquez to get Happ to make that bad throw! Team baseball at its best.
