Stunning. Remember, I just said the Yankees bullpen is well nigh invincible. Then Hanley bashes one. I am still stunned, incredulous, and absolutely delighted. Hanley was supposed to be mired in a deep, deep slump.

Cora pulls the plug at exactly the right time and prevents Porcello for getting his 6 runs in 6 innings.

They have 20 quality starts to our 22, and we are ranked 2d in MLB in most quality starts. Houston has the most, 26.

Excuse me? Sale hasn't stepped up? He has six quality in 8 starts with an ERA of 2.02 and a WAR of 2.2, highest on the team. That's a step down? Porcello butchered his start tonight, and Pom has 2 quality in 4 starts with an ERA of 5.23.

ABsolutely true. What worries me is our bullpen vs. theirs, and that assumes Porcello won't give back another run in the 6th. You know, 6 in 6 has a nice ring to it. Shows consistency.

I don't see that at all. The Sox can hit beyond question, even with a weak bottom third of the order. What's happened is the rotation is in trouble and the bullpen is less than reliable except for Kimbrel, and we are about to see that play out.

I still don't understand how Cora could position his infielders with men on 1st and 2d, 1 out, so that a double play was impossible or very unlikely.

The Yankees have pretty good pitching in case you noticed. This series right now is entirely on our abysmal pitching staff.

How was that not a GIDP? Bogie had no one to throw to at 2B. OK. Damage limited. Porcello dug that hole himself, but got out with almost no damage. No K's of course. Can't have that.

That's an easy run for the Yankees with nary a hit. And I predicted Porcello would extend the Yankee lead.

What did I say? First two batters on, and Porcello is in meltdown. Whoops. There goes another baserunner. Porcello wants his mommy about now.

Score now 4-3, so it's time for Porcello to go back out there and extend the Yankees lead by a run or two because today he is going for the putz award.

He has been a great hitter, so of course he will hurt us. But that doesn't mean our pitchers need to throw him gopher balls. Porcello is supposed to be good lowball pitcher this year, but he didn't throw a single one in that at bat by Stanton.

Could be right there. My point is that Stanton ain't superman. I'd also like to say that now he is throwing lots of breaking balls and keeping the ball low. But in the first all he threw were fastballs to Gardner and Judge, who doubled and singled for the first run. Since the pitches are all being called by the bench, I have to say I think the brain trust ain't that smart.

Meh. That fast ball waist high on the outside corner to Stanton on a 2-2 count was just stupid. Porcello needed to go inside on him and not way inside as he had been doing.

The problem is the pitching far more than it is the hitting. Last night we got 2 off their ace, but Hembree choked big time. Tonight We got a couple of Tanaka and our ace promptly give us 4 runs in 3 innings.

Porcello just might have a good or even great year, but he is not, repeat not, a big game pitcher.

Hate to say it, but that was a fine piece of pitching by Tanaka.
