  1. 21 pitches, men on 1st and 2d. Deep for out 3. Off a sweeper low in the zone.
  2. 4 of May's 6 pitches to Yaz were in almost exactly the same spot. After Yaz, a better mix. His cutter sucks, but his curve and 4 seamer are OK.
  3. So of course NESN is going to keep their cameras on Anthony all game long.
  4. I'm looking at film of Anthony's press conference and Breslow does look like a cold fish. And that's more than fine with me. Thanks.
  5. FWIW, I would love to see Mayer get a contract like Anthony's, but first he's got to earn it.
  6. It's a gift because we know how focused Cora is during games. A very distant relative of mine was like that.
  7. Just a reminder that the paying fans just might like these 2025 Sox. All 3 games in the Dodgers series were over 36K. Now both Royals games have been over 37K.
  8. Cora slept during heave turbulence? Are you kidding me? Good for Ref.
  9. Wong caught 3 of 4??? Sox must be on a losing streak. Oh, wait.
  10. For crying out loud. Grissom and Gonzalez both play 2b and both are righty hitters--and Gonzalez is a much better hitter than Grissom. So there is absolutely no need short of injury to have Grissom as backup. Hamilton, on the other hand,, is better defensively than either and a better baserunner. Plus he can back up SS. The Sox owe Grissom nothing.
  11. Interesting lineup against righty Wacha. Five righty bats and four lefty. Anthony LF Bregman 3b Story SS Duran CF Gonzalez 1b Abreu RF Yoshida DH Rafaela 2b Wong C
  12. He absolutely does.
  13. Terrific and timely OP, as so many of yours are. I honestly think Gonzalez has fixed 2b for Cora--even against righties. That keeps Rafaela in CF and puts Abreu, Duran, and Anthony at RF, LF, and DH. Gonzalez OPS vs righties is .701. Against lefties, Ref DH's and 2 of Duran, Abreu, and Anthony share LF and RF with one dropping out. The above leaves Yoshida standing in the wings with his OPS of .643 (and big salary). As I think you said, the Sox lineup right now isn't loaded with super bats, but does have a lot of good bats.
  14. Heckuva game with attendance once again over 37,000. Yoshida in LF, Gonzalez DH (against a righty starter). Rafaela on the bench.
  15. #2 starter hard to get. Righty 1b not needed, ditto backup catcher. Relievers can always help if they're any good. You're the only Flops Fan on talksox. You're actually in the unenviable position of needing the Sox to fail so you can be right.
  16. Over 37,000 showed up last night. Of course, they regretted it the moment they found out that the Sox "paid" too much for Maye. Really put a damper on the evening finding out that Breslow is incompetent. The winning streak, continuing last night, was barely enough to cheer them up.
  17. I don't care. Neither of those guys has made it to The Show, and May has a positive fWAR. For at least two years we have been bombarded with a great infielder/hitter Mayer would be. Now we've seen him and confirmed yes, he is very injury prone. Plus so far the can't hit MLB pitching. The Sox are 8-2 since Mayer went on the IL. Who the heck is/are BTV?
  18. Meh. Breslow needed an arm, and May has a positive fWAR. Tibbs and Erhard have yet to play an inning of MLB. Plus SoxProspects is not impressed.
  19. Groupthink. Good book. Diversity of opinion is a good thing. "I cannot praise a fugitive and cloistered virtue, unexercised and unbreathed, the never sallies out and sees her adversary, but slinks out of the race where that immortal garland is to be run for, not without dust and heat." I think diversity of opinion this season has been unavoidable given all the ups and downs.
  20. It's August and the Sox are in the hunt. Grissom is not competing with Hamilton, but with Gonzalez, who is proving his worth when and where it counts.
