  1. Sox are 26-3 when they score 4 or more runs this year according to the WEEI stats guys. Pretty interesting factoid. Would moonslav care to comment?
  2. Given the last two games, this was a nice surprise. Pivetta gave up 4, but also went 6.
  3. Game 50, and a surprisingly good one. WEEI guys say the rain is coming down hard.
  4. WEEI guys have climbed onto moonslav's bandwagon discussing how great it is now that Cora had "all these weapons," meaning one more position player and one less pitcher.
  5. WEEI guys say the runs count even if they don't finish the 6th. Santana in for the inimitable Bobby .138 vs. righties Dalbec, who stunk vs. lefty Smyly too.
  6. Boy, has he. With a storm close by, kind of amazing they didn't pull him sooner.
  7. Great 6th for Pivetta. 102 pitches.
  8. There are no elite offenses in a down year for offenses. The simple truth is that tonight Pivetta stinks and Smyly has hung in there against what has been, for most of this season, the best scoring with the highest OPS offense in MLB. Don't defend Pivetta when he doesn't deserve it.
  9. Pivetta just cannot stand success and will not tolerate a tie game.
  10. Smyly gives up another dinger, which is why his ERA is high this year. Wham!!!! Devers nails one, lefty vs. lefty. 3-3 is huge in view of the thunderclouds headed toward Fenway.
  11. Ump also not giving calls to Smyly.
  12. The mlb.com gameday graphics suggest that Pivetta ain't getting calls on some pretty good close ones.
  13. To remind. Going in, the Sox were supposed to have a big edge in starters. Except for the Renfroe dinger, the Sox have been mostly quiet while the Braves keep smacking that ball hard with 6 hits so far.
  14. Crowd shmowd. Sox are 16-7 on the road where the crowds are either rooting for the home team (other than the Phillies) or too small to make a difference.
  15. Dalbec working to be pathetic.
  16. Guess I'm wrong after all. Bogie hits one to the track in CF!!!!!!! Caught for an out of course, but you gotta find ways to enjoy a game like this. Whoopee!!!!
  17. I'm not watching. I'm listening while looking at gameday on mlb.com. And it's painful to see how easily the Braves score against Pivetta, supposedly the Sox best starter and how easily Smyly, he of the 4.97 ERA, gets the top of the Sox order out. Are you perchance watching or listening to a different game?
  18. Sox are overmatched, and by a NL team at Fenway, yet. Better hitting, pitching, you name it.
  19. I too will take Richards over Morton. The sad fact is the Sox bats blew the first 2 innings opportunities and never recovered. It is criminal that Santana led off the 2d with a triple and didn't come close to scoring. Richards goes 5.2 giving up 2 if Sawamura doesn't give up that double.
  20. Which the Sox rarely have--in comparison to other MLB teams an in comparison to the hitting and scoring they customarily have. No question the Sox also need hitting, which they didn't get tonight by a long shot. 3 runs in 9 innings is by any measure a good game for the Sox pitching staff. Plus to me the pitching this year is better than I expected--especially the rotation (and despite ERod's ERA of 5.07). My real point Sunday afternoon was to defend Cora for not putting JDM or Bogie in the lineup in what I thought was a lost cause with ERod going against Wheeler. I made a big deal about how Bogie and JDM wouldn't have made a difference if they had played, but the fact is we will never know.
  21. Actually, the horse ain't dead. It's a hobby horse, and I'm still riding it. After tonight, however, you can maybe make a case that the two days rest didn't help Bogie or JD Martinez, so they might just as well have played Sunday afternoon.
  22. Hmmm. Looks once again as though good pitching beats good hitting. And tonight JD Martinez and Bogie are in the lineup and making absolutely no difference, just as they would not have made against Wheeler Sunday afternoon when the Phillies scored 6 runs. Indeed, the Sox hit better Sunday without these two than they are tonight with them.
  23. What a difference with JDM and Bogie back in the lineup!!! This is the lineup we needed yesterday.
