  1. That's probably where I would put him, but 2 weeks ago he was headed for the 8th or 9th slot.
  2. A Sox win tonight would give them a 4.5 game lead over the Rays, 8.5 over the Jays, and 9.5 over the Yankees. A lot of baseball left to be played, however. All right! leadoff singles by Devers and Renfroe!
  3. Fair enough. To be honest, I'm really tooting my own horn because I saw the good ERod vs. the Yankees and immediately saw the same guy in the first inning tonight. Apparently no one else did. As each inning and game goes by, ERod is also growing in confidence. But his new base is much better command and a far better mix of pitches. Whoops, there goes another shutout inning, 5 total, by ERod.
  4. While I am completely on ERod's side, I recognize that any pitcher and certainly ERod can have a bad inning, which becomes more likely the deeper we go into this game. Nevertheless, his first four innings have been a delight, not just because of the results, but also because of how he achieved them.
  5. Verdugo comes thru with a bonafide rbi and the Sox 2d run!!!!!!!!!
  6. Nice DP by the A's, bad luck for Kike.
  7. There you go again. I know he's been terrible this year, but in these last two games he is a very different pitcher, not just from earlier this year, but from all previous seasons. For most of his career, he has been more a thrower than a pitcher. Now he has much-needed and long overdue command, and a very good repertoire. We are watching a real pitcher working at his craft.
  8. Of course you are knocking him. You just did it again. In your defense, I have to admit he has been rocked this season, and I jumped all over him like almost everyone else. But lately, including 6 innings and 2 outs vs. the Yankees, I think we have seen a very different ERod. Much more variety of pitches and far less reliance on his fastball. A very good changeup. And, best of all, better command. As Jung says, he is not giving away fat pitches, but is still throwing enough strikes to get out.
  9. They're calling it an earned run only because Laureno never touched the ball until he ran back to pick it up. Devers knew he was out right up until the ball hit the ground and then had to hustle to get to 2b, after which the Sox went down 1, 2, 3 stranding Devers on 3b. Still, gotta love the one run. ERod deserves every bit of support he can get.
  10. You are blind and/or ignorant. He is pitching great--1 hit and 0 runs after 3 innings is excellent. What games have you been watching this season? You want to complain, go after the hitless lineup and/or the error by Gonzalez.
  11. An excellent way to describe what they are doing.
  12. What a great first pitch, slider at the top of the zone! I say again, ERod is carrying this Sox team, hitless after 3 innings plus an error by Gonzalez, on his back. All ERod critics need to go find another thread.
  13. If Hernandez gets picked off at 1b, he needs to be sent to Worcester.
  14. 2d time thru the Sox lineup. Go Verdugo! But a WP will do nicely.
  15. Sox still hitless and probably need an error or WP to bring Vazquez home.
  16. Not a Santana fan, but that was a professional at bat.
  17. Heads up by Vazquez. Plenty of Sox players don't get that 2b.
  18. Meh. Right now he's the best Red Sox player in this game. The hitting stinks so far, and so does the defense. ERod is horatio at the bridge.
  19. Lots of sinkers, fast balls, and changeup, but not many sliders, not even vs lefty hitters.
  20. AL ASG starting shortstop makes a nice grab and saves the run that Gonzalez and Santana were trying to give away.
  21. Gonzalez has a weak arm for a third baseman. Also an inaccurate one. Plus Santana could still have made that play.
  22. Between half innings I gotta say some credit must accrue to the Sox pitching coach, who seems to have helped everyone who needed to make the adjustment to not using foreign substances on the ball.
  23. Not always. Enough strikes to get them swinging and making outs. An over-commitment to throwing strikes can lead to too many pitches down the middle.
  24. A walk and 18 pitches, but still a solid start for ERod. 3 time zones could be affecting the hitters.
  25. For the 2d batter, a slider and cutter for 2 strikes--and a 2d cutter for a legitimate called strike 3.
