  1. He has a plus DWAR this year. Plus Richards made sure the guy on 2d base didn’t score.
  2. Great 3D inning by Richards. Did not let that error get him down.
  3. Professional at bat by Chavis—moved the runner.
  4. I’m also no fan of Dalbec, but sure do like that double!
  5. To remind: I’m as anti-Richards as anyone. But fair is fair. Plus I’d like the Sox to win this one.
  6. Nice play, reaction by Chavis on that high hopper.
  7. Right you are. Weaver and the Orioles were both great—before Camden Yards opened.
  8. Right you are. Weaver and the Orioles were both great—before Camden Yards opened. My older son became an Orioles fan because of their success and proximity.
  9. The pig isn't the team as much as it is Peter Angelos. In Earl Weaver's day, the Orioles were pretty good.
  10. And Cora is going with an all-righty lineup except for Devers. Verdugo and Duran are out.
  11. Agree on Camden Yards, where I have watched the Orioles play several times. A tough drive from Fairfax County, however, not so much getting there but getting back.
  12. My info says the Sox are paying Garrett Richards $8.5M. That is a bargain only with respect to what they are paying David Price, $18M--because he is pitching for someone else.
  13. You've won a ton of big games this season and are bound to be in any discussions about AL MVP.
  14. A fair question. I don't know the plan either, but hope he is an option.
  15. Yes, but Cora will also have Houck available for tonight. I was impressed with his 3 shutout innings (and 49 pitches) vs. the Yankees last Friday. Whitlock will also be available, so I don't see Richards getting a lot of leeway tonight unless the Sox run out to an early and big lead. On the other hand, Richards has made some adjustments, and in his 2 July starts he went 5 vs the A's, giving up 2 ER's, and 5 vs. the Phillies, giving up 3 ER's. He starts tonight with 11 days rest.
  16. Indeed. That's the beauty of the modern playoff system--it makes it possible for more teams to go all the way even though the really good teams are still the most likely WS winners.
  17. We do know: Arroyo is on the 10 day IL--bad hammie from the stretch at 1b.
  18. Richards starts tomorrow--when Houck will have had 4 days rest since going 3 vs. the Yankees. This cannot be a coincidence. Whitlock will have had 2 days rest and before going 2 vs the Yankees he had 8 days rest. As much as I don't like Richards, however, I hope he has a good outing tomorrow night.
  19. A great win indeed. Just what this team needed. Credit to Cora for juggling the lineup and for leaving Pivetta in after the 4 runs in the 4th.
  20. Perhaps, but their team ERA is lower than the Sox, 4.01 vs. 4.10.
