  1. Houck was fine. Yes, he threw a lot of pitches, but 3.2 innings are about right for a 7 inning game. Plus Taylor gave up the single that brought that 1 run home. Houck usually throws a lot of pitches. He has good stuff, but not very good command.
  2. Could be the ball game because I think the Sox have no intention of scoring any runs tonight--or today for that matter. A thoroughly demoralized team.
  3. Well done, Arauz. No error on that play.
  4. Cordero will likely celebrate getting that one out of the infield.
  5. That said, however, I'm not sure it would make much difference if Houck could go 6 innings--even if they were 6 shutout innings.
  6. Tonight we are again seeing why Houck normally can't go more than 4 innings. 2 innings, 47 pitches.
  7. Houck gets a big break on that fat, fat fast ball in the geometric center of the strike zone.
  8. Looks like we might see the bullpen a little early tonight.
  9. FWIW, Dalbec is an infielder and is worse at 1b than Cordero.
  10. I do think anyone can play 1b, but completely agree just anyone can't make that play or the one Guerrero made last night.
  11. The Sox show every sign of being a team that expects to lose. It won't be easy, I but I think they can basically be out of contention by the time Sale can pitch and Schwarber can hit.
  12. Cordero does not make that play--the one Guerrero made.
  13. Of the four categories, rotation, defense, hitting, and bullpen, I agree the bullpen has been the most reliable. So, when I say the bullpen blew game 1 today, I'm saying the last barrier between the Sox and total mediocrity is showing some cracks.
  14. It matters both for the extra pitches and for the demonstration of incompetence. Or, if not incompetence, then maybe just not giving a darn.
  15. Given that Barnes blew game 1 today, maybe it is fair to say the Sox have a weak rotation, weak defense, weak lineup, and even a weak bullpen.
  16. Vazquez and Cordero do their clown act on an easy pop out, which lands untouched.
  17. Yes, they did piss it away, which I mentioned at the time. The fact remains that Pivetta was going great guns, and I personally wanted him on the mound in the 7th. And, yes, I do know that Cora know ten times as much as I do. I'm just mad because this game was in fact winnable.
  18. True. But I just don't like Vazquez.
  19. Great call Cora, you dickhead. Pivetta has only thrown 76 pitches and got Guererro out 3 times. This was a game that could be won.
  20. So another theory. This one is really simple. Vazquez is overrated as a catcher, and Plawecki knows what he is doing behind the plate.
  21. You have to be blind not to see on the replay that the Jays firstbaseman was blocking the bag with his foot/shin.
  22. Meh. It's the right call but an unusual one. Plus he didn't go ape.
  23. Heart of the order are doing what they do best--making outs when guys are on base and in scoring position.
  24. He couldn't touch the base because the first baseman had his foot blocking it.
  25. He didn't touch the base because the firstbaseman's foot was all over the bag. Safe is the right call.
