  1. Meanwhile, the Sox bullpen is disintegrating before our eyes.
  2. True, but I think the stats are on my side. He has a negative DWAR.
  3. It's incredible, especially when the Guerrero dinger was actually a very good pitch. It did cost him 2 runs, however, because he walked the first guy he faced in the 5th.
  4. Taylor screwed the pooch when he walked his first batter, a lefty.
  5. Still a long ways to go for the win--12 big outs against a very good Jays offense.
  6. It was Richards best curve of the day, down around the shoe tops, but Guerrero just golfed it out of park.
  7. Meh. Great arm, but not great range.
  8. That route Renfroe took looked like the Lewis and Clark search for the northwest passage. All's well that ends well.
  9. I'm glad Renfroe hasn't had to go for those flies down the line--dangerous.
  10. Duran has just returned to the upside of the mendoza line!
  11. I give Plawecki credit too. Also the lineup for scoring 7 runs so far. Cora goes short leash when needed and in fact has excellent judgment on that. Richards is on the verge of having 4 decent pitches: fastball, changeup (which isn't that great, actually), slider, and his big curve. I think the changeup needs to be slower to be effective. When ERod slowed his by 4-5 mph, it got much better.
  12. Arauz gets him for the 3d out! Very smooth play, excellent range. Richards has got to be feeling pretty good.
  13. Good grief. Duran is so shallow in LF he looks like a 5th infielder.
  14. Ump is now officially screwing Richards. Two very good pitches--which he was calling strikes for Ryu--called balls.
  15. Absolutely not. Vazquez is way, way better at passed balls, not preventing wild pitches, not throwing guys out stealing 2b, and not calling for the right pitches. On the other hand, he is really good at running into outs--he could give lessons in that.
  16. Today, Sunday, Aug 8, the big three look like themselves again. Against Ryu, who has been a pain in the past. 7 runs so far in the top of the 4th. Helped by a bad tag by the Jays catcher.
  17. Very close call, but I think the right one--safe.
  18. Fastball right down the middle, and Richards gets a tailor made GIDP grounder.
  19. Devers double-clutching on the throw for an egregious error.
  20. Very poor at bat by JDM. Must move the runner on 3b with no one out.
  21. Suddenly the Jays outfield seems to making a bunch of bad throws--which, however, the Sox have not been able to capitalize on.
  22. Cleaning inning for Richards!! Right after he throws is first curve of the day (on his 26th pitch), a fastball for a slow ground ball to SS.
  23. Richards gets lucky. Two fastballs in the same place, but a great stop by Arauz.
  24. Horrible at bat by Renfroe. Still, 3 big runs, enough to allow Cora to axe Richards if he continues to be worthless in the 2d inning.
