  1. Two excellent innings by ERod and, honestly, a pretty fair 4 innings with a real shot at 5. He is still throwing mostly hard stuff--4 seamer, cutter, etc--but is spotting them better.
  2. Wow. ERod getting the calls, but is also close to those corners on almost every pitch.
  3. ERod finally getting a call or two.
  4. Sox hitters can't seem to catch up to that fastball Gilbert is throwing (a lot). Schwarber, Bogey, and Devers--batting 2d, 3d, and 4th--have 5 K's in 6 at bats so far. Iglesias dingers was off a slider well up and in the dead center of the strike zone.
  5. Gilbert is getting more calls than ERod. That said, it makes no difference to Devers, who can't hit anyway.
  6. That was an unbelievably cool K by ERod (and Vazquez who called for it)--a low changeup breaking in on a lefty batter and well below the strike zone for a swing and a miss. Here's hoping ERod can keep this up for 5 innings.
  7. Great K by ERod!!! His 4th straight out, 3 by K's. Outfield so far looks awful. Since when does a professional ballplayer at the highest level blow bubbles with bubblegum while he is making a play on the ball?
  8. Schwarber is in a slump, pure and simple. Meanwhile, Iglesias gets the dinger to make it 2-1, which is an amazingly close score given how much better Gilbert looks than ERod.
  9. Finally, finally on the 11 pitch a slider for a called strike. 46 pitches to get 5 outs, so this looks like another 3 or 4 inning game for ERod.
  10. He's throwing nothing but 92 mph fastballs to a .166 hitter, who has fouled off every strike--6 so far.
  11. If anyone in the Seattle lineup swings and misses an ERod pitch tonight, he's going to get fined.
  12. Error by Renfroe dismaying, but even more dismaying is that ERod threw a perfect changeup on the low outside corner, which Torrens easily lined to RF for a single.
  13. No question that ERod is also feeling the pressure, especially after his last start.
  14. If he's not dumb, and I sure don't think he is, he knows he is the team mvp and is therefore feeling a lot pressure to deliver. I think the tobacco is intended to calm those inner demons, and my impression is that the tobacco, which he chews voraciously, fuels his disquiet.
  15. Ouch. True, however.
  16. Devers, his giant wad of tobacco, and his slumps (hitting and fielding) seem to go well together.
  17. Nice DP, much needed.
  18. Looks like everything ERod is throwing is hittable.
  19. Schwarber has not shed his White Sox blues.
  20. ERod, L vs. Gilbert, R Kike CF Schwarber 1B Bogey SS Devers 3B JDM DH Verdugo LF Renfroe RF Vazquez C Iggy 2B Sox going with 3 lefty bats and for them a decent defensive lineup--except for Schwarber at 1b instead of Dalbec. Mariners with 6 righty bats, including one switch hitter, Toro AL race for the two wild card slots is as Titus Andronicus.

  22. All things considered, I thought the Sox played well but Chicago played better, especially in the rubber game. Once again, I thought Cora managed the impossible well.
  23. Agree completely. This is on Plawecki, whom I regularly defend/tout.
  24. Meh. You want bad at bats, take a look at Schwarber all day today and throughout the Chicago series.
