    Yankees have good pitching, especially the starters Cole and Cortes, but also an excellent bullpen. Today/tonight Pivetta rose to the occasion, but the bullpen--Robles, Houck, and Hernandez--simply choked.

    I like Richards too, but Houck has been good. And tonight he was fine after he switched to sliders. He got 5 straight outs, then walked two guys, so Cora brought in Hernandez to pitch to Rizzo, and Hernandez was obviously in shock and walked him.

    Massive choke job by the bullpen. Even Robles had that wild pitch to bring in the first Yankee run.

    Well, you were right. Clearly, Cora went out to tell Hernandez to throw one right down the middle, which he did.

    Once again, I have to say you can't possibly be watching this game.

    Meh. He simply stopped throwing fastballs and switched to nothing but sliders--after the pitching coach went out and told Plawecki and Houck to get their heads out of their arses.

    Houck has been better in relief than starting. He doesn't have a big repertoire, but he can throw hard and he has a nice slider.

    Hmmmm. I've given Plawecki a lot of credit, but with Houck it's pretty obvious the Sox pitching coach had to intervene before Houck walked the entire Yankees team throwing nothing but fastballs--all of which, it's quite obvious, Plawecki called for. So five quick sliders, a GIDP and a K, and Houck is out of the inning.

    Stunning. 8 straight balls and 2 walks by Houck to start off the 7th inning.

    I kind of thought the Yankee pitching was pretty good, plus the Sox hit several hard ones that were caught. Or haven't you been watching the game?

    A couple of hard hit balls caught by the Yankees.

    I think Plawecki called for the wrong pitch. Better another fastball or curve, which nobody has hit well even though Pivetta threw lots of knuckle curves and fastballs. Instead he threw a slider right down the middle.

    Right now watching Pivetta's a little like watching Barnes when he was good. Fastball, knuckle curve, knuckle curve, knuckle curve, fastball.

    Pivetta didn't want quick, so Odor helped him.

    I'm sure you're right, but, if Cortes had gotten thru the 5th safely, I would have sent him back out for the 6th.

    Blind stupid luck, which I will take over a hard hit out and day of the week. Tough luck for Cortes.

    Yes he is, and yes he does. I guy that tall has no business being as good as he is. I've seen him sprint toward the right field wall to get a ball, and slide at exactly the right moment.

    I'm no Boone fan, but I think he definitely made the right call there--even though Cortes had been going great guns. .

    Pivetta has nothing to do with it. This is all Plawecki today. Pivetta's just along for the ride.

    That just torques me. Judge is actually very agile out there, and it's just not fair he's glove can reach up to 9'.

    Whoa! I think I can now get off my hobby horse. If Sanchez is dumb, that makes Cortes one really great pitcher. I just wish ERod could work the corners, especially the bottom of the zone, the way Cortes does.
