  1. Worth noting. JDM did the exact opposite of what Bogey did. Bogey swung on a first pitch slider that was way out of the strike zone--the same first pitch JDM didn't swing at. Then Bogey got a fast ball which he missed. JDM got the same pitch and clobbered it.
  2. Love it. Garcia could not resist throwing some heat to establish his authority. Great swing by JDM, but he did have help. 4-0, Sox. Keep it going!!
  3. If I'm that Astros pitching coach, I'm telling Garcia to throw lots of sliders away.
  4. Nice changeup by Garcia on a 3-0 count.
  5. Devers follows suit. Swing at anything. Took three balls, great. Finally gets the walk on the same pitch he swung at on the first pitch.
  6. Not a very good at bat by Kike. He swung at 2 pitches out of the zone, but he almost got lucky on the pop to short center.
  7. You got me there, partner, because clearly Cora even bungled the starting lineup. They produced a lousy 3 earned runs against a patched together succession of Astros pitchers. We know the Astros pitching had to be awful last night because you told us you can't win when you use 7 pitchers, and the Astros used 8, which means the Sox--if he had only put a good lineup in there--should have scored lots of runs. Given the lousy lineup, the horrible mistake of using Sale instead of Eovaldi, who now may never get to pitch in the ALCS, it flows logically that he was going to send the wrong relievers in when Sale was pulled after 2.2 innings and giving up 1 run. Same goes for sending in Santana, Shaw, and Plawecki. Given the above, it naturally follows that, whenever the Sox lose, it has to be Cora's fault because he makes all the decisions. Your analysis is so good you've even found ways to criticize Cora when the Sox win.
  8. Old Red is really Crazy Red. He reminds me of the old days on BDM when Francona seemed to be almost universally regarded as stupid, his two WS wins and later success at Cleveland notwithstanding. Now Crazy Red wants to convince us the Sox made it to the ALCS in spite of Cora. If the Sox make it to the WS this year, Crazy Red will morph into Very Bitter Red.
  9. Better team won. Tonight. Eovaldi tomorrow. Astros used 7 relievers who together pitched 6.1 innings while giving up 1 run. There is nothing wrong, especially in the postseason with all those travel days, with using your bullpen--as long as it's a good one. And tonight those Astros relievers looked pretty good to me. Our guys did not, especially Houck, Robles, and Sawamura.
  10. I like the umps. Plus in this game, despite that somewhat egregious K of JDM, I think the calls have been pretty good and not affected the outcome of this game. Tonight, so far, the Astros have simply outpitched and outhit the Sox. Whoops, there goes another rubber tree plant! Kike again with the dinger, and the score now 5-4!!!
  11. Schwarber has caught several bounced throws to 1b tonight.
  12. Sale was thankful to be pulled--don't kid yourself. He was really struggling, plus Ottavino came in and did fine. Cora used his bullpen a ton against the Rays. How did that series turn out?
  13. You are right even though after the ALDS I thought we were past that. The Astros relievers have looked pretty sharp to me even though I've read here that they never actually threw any strikes.
  14. Well, you are certainly the expert on managing.
  15. Interesting box score. Sale didn't have it, but he still went 2.2 innings giving up 1 run. The guy everyone hates, Ottavino, was our only good reliever so far, going 1.1 innings with no runs and no hits. Taylor did last .2 with 0 runs, barely. Brasier got 1 out, barely. Houck the magnificent gave up 2 runs, and Robles gave up the go ahead run. Dingers in both cases. Now Sawamura starts the 9th with a walk. The Astros, meanwhile have used 6 relievers for 5.1 innings and given up 0 runs.
  16. Hotdogging on home runs has become fairly common.
  17. Two nice changeups by Robles--thus the K.
  18. JDM's weakness, known throughout MLB, is sliders low and away.
  19. Unless the relievers pitch for the Astros, in which case the chocolates are all pretty doggone good.
  20. I doubt it. Umps are much better today than back in Ted's era simply because they use those rectangles to teach/train the strike zone.
  21. What do you want bet the Astros use 7 pitchers tonight?
  22. Ahem. Both teams have used 5 pitchers. And it is a fact that in this era of MLB bullpens are crucial.
  23. 3-3. Given how this game has been going, this was predictable. In fact, many have commented, "we need more runs!"
