  1. Not much point in that. We already have his perspective--he's not interested. When he comes to the plate, it's mainly to get some exercise swinging the bat.
  2. Dumbest at bat in the history of MLB. Kike is an idiot. He had the BB, but swung at something well out of the strike zone on a 3-1 count.
  3. I have the sound off as always. But I'm sure they are pro-Phillies because Bryce Harper plays for them, and he's the greatest!!!! Not only did he recover in record time from Tommy John surgery, he did the surgery himself. What a guy.
  4. Schwarber comes thru! Schwarber comes thru! Easy-peasy fly to RF.
  5. Kluber got a couple of bad breaks. The single was a pop-up that dropped in, and the foul ball was catchable by Verdugo, but he clearly felt that wall closer than it was.
  6. Now Kluber needs to avoid reciprocating.
  7. Unfreakingbelievable. Falter has a faultless first three innings, and the Sox lineup looks as though Cora was, for once, clueless in Seattle. Then the deluge, and it's 5-1, Sox.
  8. Meh. If Duvall had stayed, we would never have rediscovered Duran.
  9. Fine on McGuire. I absolutely don’t need to be “right” on who is better. Both are ours. Yes, you were the optimist on the rotation and I’m just happy to be agreeing.
  10. I agree that small market clubs always have a problem with attendance, but, even given that, the Rays stand out as the consummate team with ridiculously low attendance. At the upper end, big market clubs, they will probably always do pretty well with attendance. As for the Red Sox, I'm less sure. For example, their average attendance in 2017 was 36,029. The next season, 2018, probably the best Sox team ever fielded with 108 wins, the attendance was 35,747. It should have been easily over 37,000. This year I'm hoping the low attendance, 30,763, is the result of really nasty weather. Last year it was 32,408 (for the season) even though at this point last season the Sox were 10-17.
  11. Kluber and Falter are a pretty good matchup. It helps Philly that Falter is a lefty, which produced this Sox lineup-- Refsnyder DH Verdugo RF Turner 1B Devers 3B Kike SS Duran CF Arroyo 2B Tapia LF McGuire C
  12. You always do a great job with these overviews. Agree the outfield has been stunningly good--hitting, anyway. Agree injuries have affected the middle infield, that Devers looks good, and that Casas just might come around. Also that the bullpen looks good. Catching is better than expected--especially Wong, who has the highest catcher DWAR in MLB to go with his .804 OPS. Funny how you keep saying McGuire is just as good or better. Why is that? Did you know Wong hits righties better than McGuire? As for the rotation, I think I'm more hopeful than you. Sale (for the umpteenth time) has 3 of the Sox 6 quality starts, so we probably have an ace. And behind him are 7 more starters--Houck, Pivetta, Bello, Kluber, Crawford, Whitlock, and Paxton--all of whom have shown some ability. Right now the first four are in the rotation and the last three are on the IL, but the total of 8 (including Sale) tells me Cora/Bloom have some options because I think all three of the IL'ers are due back this month.
  13. Let me restate my thesis as simply as possible. I think the Rays have proven that big salaries aren't necessary to build a truly superb MLB team. On the other hand, big salaries do seem to affect attendance favorably. Try this on for size. Last year at this time the Sox were unbelievable losers, but the current Sox are 20-14. But which team had the better attendance? Last year's. They also had Bogey and, for 94 games, Trevor Story.
  14. Right now Sale has 3 of the Sox 6 quality starts. He is the ace. After Sale are--in order of innings pitched to date-- Houck, Pivetta, Kluber, Crawford, Bello, Whitlock, and Paxton. As it turns out, three of them--Crawford, Whitlock, and Paxton--are still on the IL and therefore unavailable.
  15. I did watch it and that's an excellent synopsis. Right now the Sox pitching staff has 6 "quality starts," and Sale has 3 of them. He is the ace. He has found his old fastball and used it heavily in the early innings.
  16. Jansen hit his spots against that last Philly hitter, Trea Turner, the $300M man. He sure hits like a $300M player.
  17. Agree completely. He throws a slider every 3 or 4 years, and that was the perfect time to do so.
  18. Kyle Schwarber looked like a complete idiot in that at bat. Thank goodness he did.
  19. That wasn't a strike, but he'll take it.
  20. Jansen has one pitch, and he can't throw a strike.
  21. Devers is making up for all those errors he didn't make earlier. Horrible time for an error, but Bryce Harper bailed him out.
  22. Does anyone have the specifics on that too much time called third strike on Turner?
