  1. Devers struggles are emblematic of the lineup, which last night was one again lousy at the plate and in the field. Pitching, even Pivetta, was fine until Cora intentionally walked a guy and also sent the pitching coach out to mess with Pivetta’s head. The wheels came off after those two actions/decisions. But the real problem is the lineup, including the return of Duvall.
  2. He knows he screwed up, but I don’t know whether that helps.
  3. Terrific win thanks to the pitching!!
  4. Miserable top of 1st after double by Duran
  5. I think I understand. You want a guy who fields and hits like Willie Mays and, also like Willie, would be willing to play for, say, $500K/year. Dream on. Your prototypical centerfielder is Mike Trout. If he only plays 80 games in a season, he would be paid $500K per game. There's also some guy named Hernandez, but I forget who he plays for. Two years ago he played centerfield with an OPS of .786, and overall WAR of 4.9 and a DWAR of 2.1. So you gotta ask yourself why didn't Bloom go after that guy?
  6. Yep. Kind of double jeopardy for the Sox hitting because on top of their recent slump the Yankees have a good pitching staff, 5th best in MLB. Winning team scored just 3 runs in both games. Bello tomorrow. It's interesting (to me) that before this series Cora always loaded his lineups with lefty bats when they faced a righty starter--usually 6 guys and sometimes 7. But in these two games against two righty Yankees starters Cora started 4 lefty bats in game 1 and 5 lefty bats tonight.
  7. Duran looked great in that at bat! Why doesn't Cora start instead of that old guy Duvall, the one who can't nearly as well as Duran?
  8. His OPS for June before this game was .997.
  9. It would have been a called strike. Plus next up was Duvall, and he is not yet what he was in the first 8 games.
  10. Fine. Last time I checked the Sox are allowed to get cheap home runs at Yankee Stadium, so shame on them for not getting them if they're so easy.
  11. Also at Fenway if it's just inside the Pesky Pole.
  12. Am I wrong or does Houck not in fact have a changeup?
  13. Nor does Jansen. Well, I did see him glance over at a guy on 1st base during a conference on the mound.
  14. Now, see, Casas shows some patience. That's how it's done. Devers take note of how intelligent Casas is at the plate.
  15. That idiot, Devers. He swung on a freaking first pitch that was at the very top of the zone and could have been called a ball. But we'll never know now. I hope Cora fines him for reckless swinging of the bat. Devers needs to learn patience at the plate.
  16. Well done, Houck!! Threw some good pitches and got rewarded with the GIDP--which was also a nice round the horn (Devers to Arroyo to Casas) by the Sox infield. Fox guys say Volpe, the guy going to 1st, is fast.
  17. Houck terrific first time through the Yankees order, not so terrific the second time. Same old, same old.
  18. This is what Houck sometimes does. He stops throwing the sharp breaking stuff and at the same time starting throwing toward the middle of the strike zone.
  19. Works for both teams. Last night the Sox had 2 dingers.
  20. Like I said, this is his second time through the order. Kike, Dugo, and Yoshiba coming up for the Sox in the 4th. Past time for making something happen. Except for Kike, this will be 3d time through the Sox order.
  21. I agree with both of you. But this was the first time through the Yankees order.
  22. I don't know. They've hit some good shots that were just catchable. Devers last out fly just now and kike's 3d out line drive last inning.
