Tough low inside slider Ref just nailed for a single to LF.

That was a pretty good (low in the zone) knuckle curve Bichette parked to tie the score at 2 all.

I like the way Casas can stretch for throws to 1b, but no way does he make the two plays Turner has already made.

Absolutely stupendous at bat in the 3d by Devers because Kikuchi threw a bunch of excellent pitches--sliders and fastballs on the corners--at him. Finally, he got a hittable pitch and parked it. Sox up 2-1 and I could not be happier to be wrong. Yet again.

On the other hand, he has also looked terrible in his first two at bats.

Dugo struggles on a can of corn fly ball. Maybe the sun did that. Or the wild fire smog.

Devers gets 4 straight fastballs, 4 seamers, and K's. One, which he swung at and missed, was well above the strike zone. The 3d strike foul tip was pretty much right down the middle.

Lefty starter. I don't like today's lineup with all those useless righty bats.

I don't see. I agree the game should start whenever Canada, Toronto, and the Jays agree it should start. But I don't understand why the start time needs to be a secret, which it clearly was/is. The scheduled start time was 3:07. It now appears they intended all along to start at 3:30, but just not tell anyone of that intent.

It's Canada Day, which I suppose means the start time for the game is completely flexible.

Starts at 3 pm eastern time. I'm fine with Crawford, but worry about the Sox ability to hit a lefty. Refsnyder is in a slump and leading off in LF. Dugo and Devers are hitting 2d and 4th, which could be a problem against a lefty. Turner and Duvall batting 3d and 5th would be OK if Duvall were hitting, which he is not. Yoshida 6th and DH should be OK. But then the bottom of the order--Kike, Arroyo, and Hamilton--is just disheartening.

About Bogey. I think we all liked him a lot--and no doubt still do. But I honestly don't think his salary--which will continue for a bunch more years--matches his overall performance, nor will it. The Sox already signed Story for 6 years and $140. They also have the kid (Marcelo Mayer) at AA. However, Story is on the IL, and so are Chang and Reyes. That's four freaking SS's who are not available. Thus has Kike played SS a fair amount, and now Hamilton.

It pissed me off too because Arroyo did call for it and the replay did not show Devers calling for it. That said, this was an error of commission vice omission. With two guys battling each other for that popup, there was still a good chance one would catch it. With both of them making way for the other to catch it, there's a 100% chance it will not be caught.

Terrific win, especially Paxton's 7.2 innings and 0 runs. For a change, the Sox backed him up with with 3 dingers and 5 runs and some pretty good defense, the collision and dropped ball in the 9th notwithstanding.

Ball game. Bullpen not so hot--especially not Jansen--but overall the pitching was excellent and the hitting once again comatose. Plus of course the obligatory error, this one by Turner.

Jansen: 2 batters, two hits. What a piece of garbage he seems to be turning into.

I take back all the good things I've said about Turner, who absolutely stinks tonight. He got a very hittable 97 mph fastball right down the middle and couldn't do anything with it. Plus the 2 base error.

Great game by Bello, not so great by Martin, but he still got 3 outs and only gave up 1 run with men on 1st and 2d and no one out. Neat double play, Devers to Wong to Turner.
