  1. I agree with mvp 78 in that Benitendi's lead off days are probably done until he proves himself again.
  2. I'm thinking that once Kluber signs, all the dominoes start to fall.
  3. Assuming we get a low-end starter for Beni, I wonder if that pitcher will be any better a prospect than Houck or Pivetta. I'm much more interested in seeing the Sox get a closer, a quality starter (Kluber/Odorizzi), a center fielder, a second baseman etc. With Beni gone, Verdugo must be lonely out there.
  4. Oh sorry I didn't realize that.
  5. I'd like us to bring Travis Shaw back on a minor league deal. Maybe he can get his swing back and be our second baseman?
  6. If Kluber looks good, and the Sox sign him, I will be thrilled. We should have the inside track given that he lives here anyway.
  7. That's why I was okay with Ben being fired. It wasn't just that he brought in two duds, it's also that he passed over some great players. ***************** January 12th and the Sox haven't improved themselves yet. Oi vay.
  8. Oh we're back to that offseason. Scherzer and Cruz were clearly the best players the Sox could have added, and I am still mystified to this day we threw money at Hanley and Panda instead.
  9. And, may I add, it's already January 8th. This offseason is killing me.
  10. Wow! That's a huge trade.
  11. I just rechecked his stats. I didn't realize he only had 13 starts in 2019. Darn.
  12. I am still to this day mystified by the 2002 Sox. It was all because of that horrible 10 game losing streak. Urbina had, I think, the majority of his blown saves during that stretch.
  13. Call me crazy, but I'd still also like to see the Sox bring Rich Hill home. Kluber, Odorizzi, and Hill would be my preference.
  14. 15 years, okay didn't realize that. ***** Well we just signed Matt Andriese. https://www.boston.com/sports/boston-red-sox/2020/12/23/red-sox-sign-free-agent-pitcher-matt-andriese. 5th starter?
  15. Those are beauties. Some quick web research: The Sox traded pitching prospect Carl Pavano and Tony Armas Jr. to the Expos for Martinez. Pavano had one decent season in a Montreal uniform. In November 2003, the Diamondbacks traded Schilling to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Jorge de la Rosa, Casey Fossum, Mike Goss, and Brandon Lyon. The classic "4 guys you'll never hear about again" for an ace. I don't even have to do a lookup on Varitek and Lowe - the infamous Heathcliff Slocumb. Ha ha ha I can't believe they took him. The Dodger Dump helped us a lot, but to be fair the Dodgers got some value out of those players too. Yeah, getting E-Rod for Andrew Miller is up with these as well, given how good E-Rod has become.
  16. Yay that means 5 more years of Bogey!
  17. He could have platooned with Moreland in 2019. Anyway, that team sucked so it doesn't matter; he's here now.
  18. As they should be. He can join the Ramon Martinez & Brett Saberhagen reclamation projects club. The announcers made it sound like every time Saberhagen pitched for us his arm might literally fall off.
  19. Can you explain? We didn't extend those guys in 2020.
  20. Wait, now I'm also remembering 3-2 being called the "Jack Clark" count. I wonder if Matt Young ever pitched to Jack Clark. If so, the at bat probably went 20+ pitches.
  21. I feel that the Sox kept Dalbec in the minors too long.
  22. Let's grab Bauer and Springer on one year deals and be done with it. Well, that and a closer somewhere.
  23. Wow it's depressing how few of those worked out overall. Matt Young is the guy who worked everybody to a 3-2 count right? I seem to remember the booth guys joking that when he's pitching they should just start the batter 3-2. But I may be misremembering him for someone else. I do think he's the guy who pitched a no-hitter and lost. Jose Offerman, gadzooks he was the worst fielder I've ever seen. Well at least until Hanley Ramirez was put in the outfield. Shane Victorino was clutch in 2013, I don't remember him staying beyond that year. At any rate, it's freakin' Jan 3rd and nothing has happened. This sport completely blew the whole 'hot stove' thing. Wake me up in spring training I guess.
  24. I keep hoping we get him. I'm also interested in signing Rich Hill to a 1 year deal. For CF, I'd like to bring back Jackie Bradley Jr. at a reduced price. For closer, I have no idea.
  25. If we're going to make a big splash, why on Earth would we go with Springer over Bauer?
