  1. Now that it how you do opening day......... Well Done....
  2. Ok, here comes the MLB.TV streaming shiiiitshow........ I hope it's better this year...
  3. Me too. When he was on it was amazing seeing hitters look pretty much foolish. But I kind of miss my psycho ex-girlfriend the same way.... there was good times, there were bad times... But I seriously thought he was one of the most fun pitchers to watch when he was on. If you need a good pitching performance to watch, watch Yu Darvish........... when he's on he's super fun.
  4. The dig a little deeper thing hit me. I think when I was younger I had the mentality that I would destroy anything in front of me on the game field. Like Lawrence Taylor would say. He wasn't just happy with a tackle, he wanted to induce a snot bubble coming out of the persons nose. And I knew people who had more of that just "I'm winning at all costs" desire in them more than me. Now that I'm older........I don't feel the need to grind out a point, I just want to go grab another beer. Maybe we are talking about desire instead of clutch....... Maybe a good study would be from what cultural and economic background boxers come from. Interesting topic though for sure.
  5. When the pressure is on. When the situation is tough, when it is do or die, humans up their game. Ever heard that a team wasn't ready for playoff ball? Things get faster, things get more tight. A routine play in clutch ball game time can feel like do or death situation. Nerves are on full tilt. Emotions too. The same play in the regular 162 games compared to the playoffs could feel totally different. Some people can't handle it. Some can................ some can't rise to the level of the game being played in clutch situations. I could be wrong, but I've seen and been on both sides of the coin on what I just wrote.
  6. You forgot Leon cranking one out too. Just to show us last year wasn't a fluke. But, the rest seems right to me.
  7. ahahahahah....... IDGAF too.... Let's do this....
  8. Holy sweet Jebus do I need some baseball in my life....... Come on Porcello.........
  9. Do we really have a rookie batting second? His hair was cool, and he looks like a serious gamer. But can he hold down the 2 spot? Why not let him ease into this....
  10. Wasn't there a play where the ball was hit back to the pitcher, and he couldn't get the ball out of his glove, so he threw the glove and ball to first base? That was cool. The exploding bird pitch is always cool. But, I'd say stealing home is always super cool to watch.
  11. I gotta ask. Why the heck did we sign Moreland?????
  12. I have no idea what to think of Wright. I guess the only thing we found out is he will most likely be less effective as the weather warms up due to humidity and moisture. I'm asking...... do you all think he can pull off again what he did in the earlier part of the year last year? And isn't Pomeranz supposedly the better of the three? We got too see him a bit worn out and he didn't look like a person who should have been on the all star team, but I'd guess he would be projected to be better than E-Rod and Wright...........
  13. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved that guy....
  14. If we don't win some serious hardware, this trade could look really bad later on. I respect the don't sell the future crowd, but I'm hoping Price will be Price, Porcello shows some of last years brilliance, Sale is what we bought. And Eddie and the rest can kick it into gear. This could be an amazing and just flat out bad ass 5 man rotation.
  15. Great news. I can't wait to see what this rotation will do this year. Wow....
  16. I thought the first half of 2015 before he started hitting he looked deer in the headlights, but I don't think I saw that his second half. There is just such a contrast in the way I see Vaszquez runs a game to Swihart, I'd say there is much learning to do. What's strange is I never really notice what Leon is doing behind the plate. Maybe there is a quiet confidence in him.
  17. This is exactly what concerns me about him. He didn't own the game. He looked timid. I'm hoping that with experience he will get that confidence. Not sure though. Good post.
  18. The thing with Swihart is that he never had that "I own this game" look. Vasquez owns the game, Leon gets the job done. Catching isn't something you get gifted to you by birth. It takes reps. With reps it grows the "I own this game" mentality. To me Swihart looked like a kid playing with men. But a kid that in a couple of years would easily catch up to the men and pass them. At this point trading Swihart seems foolish to me. He hits better than Vasquez and most likely Leon, and within a couple of years I believe will be close to their ability in defense. Sticking with Swihart will pay off..........
  19. He's just fun to watch play the game. Anyone that slides into home plate when there is no reason to do so gets my vote.
  20. I think Kelly could be valuable in the pen. He did well this year in the pen if you can forget the catastrophes. If some coach works with Kelly and gives him a BP mindset and tells him he is going to go a couple of innings, I'll take it.
  21. Heck. Swihart may be our best bet in the next few years. I'm not sure if you can trade him. Leon had an amazing story this year.......... but we all knew it wouldn't last. Vazquez........... I'm not sure he can actually hit. Out of the three, Swihart maybe the one I would go with, especially after a year of seasoning. I hate to say it, but what looked like something that could be a positive a year ago, the catcher position kind of looks like a negative now.
  22. Paying huge for a designated hitter can't be the right thing to do. This is where DD will earn his money. I really think we need a big bat in the lineup, but not some long and expensive contract. Cherington nailed it in 2013. We need that.......
  23. What is pitch cards? We did a game I don't remember exactly how it was played. I think if the cards thrown in were all up, or one side would win. If the cards were all down, one side would win. If there was a card that was up and one that was down, then we dealt three cards off both our decks and then threw in again. I remember playing that anywhere and everywhere, school recess we would play or after school. We had some hustlers in our group. I saw someone lose two entire card books of baseball cards that had a few Clemens rookies, and Ricky Henderson rookies along with many other great cards in a hour of poker. Those books were worth hundreds of dollars when I saw that happen around 1990. That was a ton of cash to us then. Those cards probably would be worth thousands now a days. Never trust a person who goes to a dog or horse track frequently............ they will make an ace pop out of a deck and squirt cider in your ear.....
  24. Haven't been following the thread much. I was super happy that Wright got a shot this year and performed above expectations. But the thing that is bugging me with him is the humidity/sweat thing. Is Wright only a player we can count on for a few months before it gets hot and the K-ball evades him due to moisture?
  25. I'm thinking we may suffer without a big bopper like Papi in the lineup more than we know. And I'd hate to spend big on that bat. Bring back my boy Napoli!!!!?
