  1. Yes, the collapse of American society starts with Buchh pitching Opening Day. Oh brother...
  2. Yeah, that's going to make such a difference over the course of 80 or so games. Please... If it's going to be such a disaster, who would you get to catch instead? Swihart, before he's ready?
  3. Do you really think pitchers will change their approach because the mighty Vazquez is on deck? I don't see it.
  4. I don't know why folks are so caught up in a mostly symbolic gesture. So, Buchholz pitches OD. I hardly think it going to determine anything more than that day's winning team.
  5. Of course he is. And who knew there was a post limit here?
  6. Which is something you can't prevent, so no sense worrying about it.
  7. Any particular reason, for just a gut feeling thing?
  8. Yup, with this line up, the Sox can afford to to think defense first at catcher.
  9. What hype? All I hear is fans freaking out over not having a CY Young winner starting April 6th.
  10. http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/boston/baseball/red-sox/2015/03/21/morning-fort-joe-kelly-not-making-scheduled-start-shane-victorino-abandons-switch-hitting/ John Farrell: “Even though he came out of his bullpen the other day with no issue, still at 70 percent, which might be a normal bullpen, we just want to get him up to normal game intensity, but not in a game setting,” Farrell said. “Maybe it’s a little precautionary, but it’s something I feel like he walked off the mound in a middle of a start and we’ll take that extended bullpen tomorrow with an eye on him making his normal start next Friday. … Not a setback whatsoever, just an intermediary step towards getting to game speed.” I don't see anything about "healing slower".
  11. I wasn't aware that the team was even at the gate, never mind out of it. When was Opening Day? I missed it! BSN07 and Kimmi have it right. I'll wait 'till May, at least, to panic.
  12. That's true about the concussion. I think he's too valuable to simply give away, to trim the roster. If the Sox can package him, or get a decent player for him, I'd be fine with dealing him. I'm sure he'd rather be starting.
  13. As good as Holt was last year, he's not getting a starting gig with the Sox. He had a significant drop off in production n in the second half, last year. The fact that he is so versatile tells me the Sox will keep him in the Super U role, unless some team comes asking for him.
  14. Only if Science somehow sends us back to living in caves, in some way. Science theory isn't always as neat and clean as we'd like, but that doesn't we shouldn't try to learn more about the world around us. When I was in 6th grade, I was taught that the dinosaurs died out after being the dominant terrestrial species for 135 million years because they were "too stupid to adapt". Seems pretty silly now. I think it's been said plenty of times here already, but I'll say it again; it's foolish to rely on "what my eyes tell me" only. Just as it's foolish to rely strictly on stats to tell the whole story. A combination of both will give you the most complete picture possible.
  15. Mr Fragile will be back sooner.
  16. Yup. I think Remy would be the first to admit he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I enjoy his color work. I've heard a few other team's announcers and believe Remy is one of the best.
  17. The only person reporting this in Nick Carfardo. The guy is wrong more often than my local weather man.
  18. Maybe. I still have to believe that by the time they get to the majors, they've already dealt with many pressure situations. Maybe the addition of living up to a big contract or playing in front of a packed house every day magnifies it. I think those players that let it get to them are rare in the ML.
  19. You don't think he faced pressure situations in TB? If I remember correctly, the guy killed the Sox in the '08 ALCS. Playing for a lager market team, with a large market contract damaged his entire game, not just "clutch" situations.
  20. I don't think Crawford had a problem with in-game situations being too big for him, which what the "clutch" discussion is about. I think the market, fan expectation and his own expectations got the better of him. And, judging by his comments, since being traded, he still hasn't gotten over it. Except for injuries, he seems to have adjusted to playing in LA. If I could explain what happened to Bard, I could take Bob Tewksbury's job.
  21. Playing half the games in Yankee Stadium didn't hurt either. I'm sure that was taken into account.
  22. I would imagine that the kids who shake in the cleats during a big at bat never sniff the minor leagues, never mind the majors. I'm not sure how this applies to someone like Napoli. Or Bogaerts, for that matter.
  23. Thanks. I think I waste plenty of time here as it is!
  24. I guess some folks don't know the meaning of "have at it". I didn't think it was that provincial a phrase.
