Moon is a baseball genius.....I actually do mean that. However......he also is a HUGE fan of patting himself on the back at odd times. You gotta take the good with the bad.
I agree that we should ride the horse as long as possible. However…..I'm not going to anoint somebody who has hit above .260 once as even CLOSE to the next Bautista.
Hehehe…….glad you recognized my tongue in cheek humor about me admitting I'm wrong.
I understand where you're coming from but keep in mind too that he has also driven in over 50 runs against RHP and has 10HR's vs RHP……so it's not like he's not producing in that spot. Pedroia has very similar numbers vs LHP but I wouldn't platoon him. HanRam has pretty respectable career #s vs RHP as well. Last year he was injured and not in the best of shape and this year he has been a bit off offensively but getting used to a completely new position can be tough for a guy in his early 30's. He has also come around as of late too.
As for Leon…..he's been a great surprise but I think we can both agree that he is not the full-time answer going forward into next year and we have weaknesses in the rotation with SEVERE consistency issues and the BP with no Koji, an aging Taz and Carson coming off TJS. My point is that next year I think they should put their resources to the pitching staff as HanRam at 1B may not be the most perfect solution…….it's far from the biggest issue.
Am I missing something?? We needed a 1Bman…….so we converted HanRam to 1B. A move I was VERY against and have been proven VERY wrong (I think I'm the only one here who actually admits to being wrong BTW). He is playing solid defense at 1B, he is hitting .275 and will probably end the year off with 23HR's and about 100RBI's and an .800 or better OPS…….and we want to platoon and trade him? OK…….. Pretty sure HAnRam is one of the least of our worries going into 2017. Keep him at 1B and solve the real issues: Pitching and Catching. It's not rocket science…...
^^^^^ This. The kid needs regular at bats. September call up maybe? Even then....I wouldn't be upset if he wasn't. He has a bright future so I'd see what he can do about making the team next season. I actually see him finishing in Portland.....maybe get a late promotion to Pawtucket to 'get a taste'. Then I see him in AAA to start next season that gets called up to the Sox if/when injury happens and sticking around for most of the season.
Good to see you too Jack. I pop in from time to time. I should make more of an effort to contribute more though.....especially now that we have something that actually looks like a team!!
FWIW......I like the deal in that I think we got a solid #3 starter who seems to be on the up and up, for cheap money and have him for a few more years. I really don't like giving up Espinoza. I'm probably in the minority on this one...and it's moot for health reasons...but I would have given up a healthy Swihart for this trade over Espinoza any day without batting an eye. I have heard Devers mentioned for a trade instead of Espinoza....and I admit I'm a Devers fanboy....but he has been on fire as of late and still has the best power hit tool in the minor league system...AND is just 19.
Papi with Xander a close second. I always knew that Xander would emerge as our best young prospect. Most thought Betts....and HE IS AWESOME.....but Xander gets him by a bit more than a nose.
Great thread Hugh!
I'd take a chance on him. He's been mentioned at going anywhere from 7 to 2 and is regarded as the best IF prospect in the draft. I also like Manning. He's a top 10 prospect but will fall because of his high price tag.
Well.....here's one thing we actually agree on. I was against the Miley trade at the time.....and obviously with things the way they are now I really wish they kept him. Wade was one of our most reliable starters last year.....not our best.....but you knew you were going to get 6-7 innings and he'd keep you in the game. Other than Wright we so far have not gotten that (Price is approaching it now though. I proposed a rotation of Price, Hill, Erod, Porcello, Wade with Wright as the spot starter. So far I look pretty brilliant.......
I'll say it again for the 8,485 time..............not signing Rich Hill when they had a chance for cheep money was absolutely stupid........ 2.25era, 1.12whip and 8-3 record on a not so great team.......
Reason 5,476 why they should have signed Hill this past Winter.........he signed for peanuts in Oakland is is sporting a 2.54era.......... Price, Hill, Porcello, Wright, Buch (or Kelly) would be pretty solid.......
.........he's available? Never heard that. Should he be if you were the 'ageing angels'?? ABSOLUTELY!!! But he sells tickets.....and he's young......and he's the best in the game (although Harper may be about to pass him......if he hasn't already) and he is not getting paid what he's worth. He's an owners dream. He's not going anywhere......
Well........'great' was said in sarcasm......however we have played a total of 8 games against teams with an over .500 record. 2 were against Cleveland that is 1 game over .500........and we have gone 4-4 against those teams (Cle, Balt, CHW). So I am 100% correct in what I said......beat the teams we should beat (Which we have) and split against the good teams (which we have)..........no clue what you're trying to argue about........
Well.......Manny Ramirez had 17 assists once at for the Sox.........AND to top that he had 19 assists once playing for Cleveland in a much bigger park.....so I guess he too is pretty awesome in the field. If you're judging good fielding by assists in LF playing at Fenway and clutch playing from hits in AllStar games.......then I'm going to have to bow out of this debate Max.......I have nothing more to say other than......"Wow"...........
Beat the teams your supposed to beat.....and split with the very good teams and you are pretty much going to be in the playoffs every year. So far they have been doing this. I will say though.....the Sox have not played a lot of great teams yet.....HOWEVER....they are beating the teams they are supposed to beat which is ALWAYS a good thing.
