  1. I like the move. The D improves at 1B which will thus help the D of the entire IF. I thought Hanley did a MUCH better job than anticipated (I was VERY against the guy going to 1B.....so I'll eat crow on that one) but I think whenever you can replace an average fielder with a GG guy with a solid bat with pop at 1B.....you do it. To me the biggest area of need was needing a very good #3/#2 pitcher.........and instead we got an Ace...... Offense is not an issue. I see Panda turning things around and couple that with Moreland....I think a bit more that half of Papi's production is replaced.....which is really all we needed anyway.
  2. There is ZERO way they go over the luxury limit.....so no. They are pretty much done as far as any big moves.
  3. I agree 100%! Best post ever!! Thanks for your contributions KingFace!!!! Please stick around more and give us all some VERY MUCH needed wisdom!!!!!! You're a pretty handsome guy too.......just saying'.
  4. HOLY CRAP!!!!!! I haven't posted in quite a long time but this certainly warranted it!!!!! This is a CRAZY good deal!!! I was as high on Moncada as others......loved his speed a TON and his power potential but he just seemed to have too many question marks in terms of consistency at the ML level at the plate and in the field. I actually hate to see Kopeck go because young fireballers like him are not a dime a dozen........but to get a REAL TOR starter......it's an absolute no brainer. When I saw the deal originally I thought that one of Bogey, JBJ, Betts or Benni would have been included.......in which case I would have been sad...... But to keep that young core intact is absolutely CRAZY awesome!!!!!! The amazing thing is......Price is our 3rd starter!!!! He's an ace on 3/4 of the clubs out there!! HAHA!!!! Sale, Porcello, Price, Erod, Pom???? with Wright and Buch as 6th starters and spot starters??? Crazy good. In all honesty though, I actually would be shocked if they broke camp with Wright,Buch and Pom on the squad. I can see once of them being traded for some quality BP help or depth in the IF.
  5. Completely understand your choices........even though I take the 3 time champ over Ted (but can fully understand and respect why others would take Ted), but seriously......John Hannah Over Brady?????? An offensive lineman over the best QB of all time? Hannah was insanely good and very under appreciated in Pats history because of the teams he played on......but there is ZERO way he is the best player in the teams history.
  6. Agree. But his production HAS to be addressed. Lefty or Righty.......preferably a Lefty......but it has to and WILL be addressed.
  7. I agree............ However, saying that a strike out pitcher with already 1,100 innings on his arm at the age of 27 will break down is not exactly going out on a limb.......
  8. There is ZERO way the FO doesn't address losing Ortiz in the lineup......ZEROOOOOOOOO WAY. They WILL make a splash either via trade or FA's. Encarnacion (sp) will be on the Sox next year......
  9. Agree. While Pedey may not be the runner he used to be.....he's pretty much the smartest guy on the team and is the least of our worries going into next year IF he is the leadoff guy. He has taken the leadoff roll and has done GREAT. Not sure what else he needs to do. With that said........I personally do think that Benni, if he continues his discipline at the plate and continues to grow, would be a GREAT option to leadoff. I thought Moncada for a bit but he is simply not ready. He WILL start the year next season in AAA.
  10. I'd drop Hanley down in the order and platoon him with Shaw against RHP.........
  11. I was saying that Betts was the best player.....was producing in the 4 hole and moving him to help Bogey would be stupid. I never said Bogey was the best......re-read the post.....It was actually quite brilliant If I do say so myself.
  12. Thanks Nut...... Thought that was pretty obvious. I should have explained it better I guess.....
  13. Just because somebody is slumping doesn't mean they should automatically be shifted around.....I never understood this notion. You move Bogie then that means somebody else has to be moved. Moving Betts to the 2 hole....from the 4 hole where he has been absolutely killing it.....is simply the stupidest idea I have heard in awhile. The lineup has been producing.....and some guy wants to move arguably the best player on the team out of his spot.........pure genius.
  14. .......well then clearly it would be Theo Epstein, John Farrell, Grady Little and Tito's fault.
  15. .810 ops, 17 HR's, 75RBI's and a .280avg against Right Handed Starters....... - Hanley Ramirez. I remember some guy here wanted to see HanRam platooned just a month ago and dropped in the order. Reason 5,000 why none of us are GM's........ a HUGE kudos to JF for creating this lineup and sticking to it. 1-5 the best lineup in all of baseball by far.
  16. No. Seen this movie too many times. Take that $$ and get 2 REAL RP's.
  17. I have always been up and down on JBJ. Glad the GM didn't listen to me and trade him for a bucket of balls a few years ago. With that said.......if the proposed deal for him and Sale were true.....I would have done that in a heartbeat. Price, Sale, Porcello, Wright, Pom?? Yes please......
  18. ........isn't every save nowadays 'spoon fed'? What does that even mean? The closer is ALWAYS 'fed' the lead in the 9th inning and his job is to get 3 outs. Pretty much every closer in the last 10 years got fed the same thing. Gone are the Goose Gossage days of having to get 6 or more outs. Yes his numbers have been sagging and I'm pretty sure nobody thinks he should be the closer or the set up guy even. To me he'd be another solid and VERY experienced arm to come out of the BP to get a few outs in the 6th or 7th inning. How is that possibly a bad thing?
  19. On July 22nd (less than a month ago) he had a 2.56ERA and 19 saves. I think I would take a flier on him as out 6/7th inning guy. But what do I know......
  20. Now if we can only stop marching Owens out there..........
  21. The BP is going to determine how far this team goes. A healthy Koji, a rested Taz and a consistent Kimbrel is the key....... and dare I say it......Paps signing could be huge if it were to happen.
  22. JF is not the best manager.....we can all agree on that. However he has done a solid job this year shuffling the lineup around, managing the starters IP, making sure his players are playing when they have the best matchups and keeping with the more aggressive style of baseball this year. I see no reason to keep the hang mans noose on him.....
  23. Do we even need Buch? Price, Porcello, Erod, Pom, Wright (Elias, Johnson, Owens, Kelly)......pretty sure we can find other ways to spend $13.5 on someone other than a 6th starter..... I am a HUGE advocate of having a solid veteran 6th starter which is why I REALLY wanted Hill to be resigned last season. But 13.5 for somebody like Buch is stupid.
  24. Struggled??? He has an almost .900 OPS vs LHP this season and is batting .324 against them. Yes his power numbers are not on par (other than RBI's as he actually averages more vs LHP's) but that's going to be the same with pretty much most MLB players. I do agree 100% that he should get rest down the stretch and that should happen against pitchers he does not have a great history against.....but I fail to see why you say he has 'struggled'. Please explain.
